No, that's not correct. From the engadget transcript:

Feb 28th 10:40am PT - "Thank you very much for coming today, and we'll see you all real soon..."

I don't think the UBS Analysts have it right regarding the Macbook/new products announcement. Any new Apple product, particularly a major revamp like the Macbook, or new iPod or download service would warrant a press event.

He says that at the end of most Keynotes, or something similar. When he was talking about Apple's 30th, he said what I quoted above.

who knows....

but there's no proof whatsoever that there IS going to be an event. it's ALL been speculation. steve said about the anniversary he didn't know what they'd do for it..... he never said anything about seeing us all then. apple could just stick a copy of the infamous 1984 commercial on the site in HI DEF. the latest invites will go out for any event would be around 10 - 7 days before. so, lets wait a week, then we'll be able to either bash apple to death, or speculate wildly about iPone / idvr / TAM / etc.

I usually don't really post my opinion, I try to not get angered at this stuff. But I must admit, I am getting pretty impatient about these darn ibooks. I have been waiting for so long, following all of the rumors, for the announcement of the so called "13 inch widescreen" ibook. I really hope they announce it soon.

Ughhh, sorry just venting.
Yeah, I agree 100%. Although I can get worked up pretty easily.
I want these iBooks! Everyone wants these iBooks!
And I'm venting for 2nd time. I won't post again in this thread. Promise. Sorta.

this is just speculation that prior speculation is wrong. So it's really just a question of which level of speculation you feel like believing.

move along, nothing to see here.

I'm calling their bluff because Jobs, I believe, has hinted that there would be an event...I believe two conferences ago (iMac/MBP) Jobs said something along the lines of "maybe we'll host something for our 30th anniverary (it was at the end where they showed a picture of Woz and Jobs 30 years ago)

Does anybody remember that or am I completely wrong?

As has been mentioned in this thread before, he said we don't know what we'll do for it.

Here's the real quote from Macworld SF 2006:

Steve Jobs said:
Apple was founded on April Fool's Day in 1976. We thought that was funny at the time. And, ah, what that means, is that Apple will be 30 years old this April Fool's Day. And ah, I don't know what we're going to do for it, but since we may not see many of you before then I just wanted to point it out. Thirty years, making the best personal computers in the world.

It starts at around 01:33:05 in the keynote:
http://macworld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/mw/index.html

He doesn't say he'll see us on April 1, he just says that he may not see us before then. So it doesn't really show anything either way!

Just watched that part of the keynote again... It starts around 1:33

He says
"...I don't know what we're going to do for it [Apples 30th], but since we're not going to see many of you before then, I just wanted to point it out. Thirty years of making the best personal computers in the world."

iBooks (MacBook) really need to be out for the educational buying season which I think has started in March. And unless they are really selling alot of iMacs and MacBook Pros I would think they need to transition more of their product line to keep selling computers. I am hoping that this is an attempt to move the rest of the PowerPC's left in stock before the end of the quarter. But it sure has been quiet on the rumor front.....

April 30th Anniversary

It's unfortunate if nothing happens; although something must as Steve did indicate so...

I guess UBS are waking up to the fact that no invitations have been sent out, and we haven't heard about them...surely that means no special event?

NoEVENT !!!! A 30th Anniversary and no event. Not the Apple Computer company I've come to be passionette about, no no no. They had a media event in February that was atrocious and the thought of a $199 leather be it gold trimmed ipod case would indeed be an ultra ultra sick joke but geez even if not any release of any desired / nescessary products to maintain some format of momentum- it would be indecent not to have this event (Anniversary) embellished . Worse case senerio then that no event-- for me this would not only be dissappointing but would indicate something most foul within the company and I would have to release myself from any jubilant supporting energy as when the era of Mohammed Ali and Marvellous Marvin Haggler (self imposed) had ended.

Yep that really does clear it up - there definatley will be a Media Event around april 1st. If Steve said "I don't know what we're going to do for it" that translates to "well, we'll be doing something - maybe MacBooks, maybe new iPods who knows...yet..."

Ok, IT BETTER BE OF I AM SO PISSED OFF!!
Sorry for the outburst but... I told a person there would probably be iBooks @ MWSF, there weren't. I told the same person, who has yet to buy a laptop, that if there aren't new iBooks by the end of April I will be very suprised. Now that same person has a right to get very annoyed at me, and I'm afraid they'll end up buying a 12" iBook G4 which would suck. :(
So.... iBooks within the next month?? THAT'S ALL I WANT STEVE! ALL I ASK FOR!

it would suck if he bought one right before they updated them, but remember the ibook G4's are still great computers - wouldn't trade mine for any other computer on the market - cept a 12" powerbook perhaps.

This whole media event has to make you laugh really. i've heard everything from a newton like revamp to a tablet, to a load of new Macbooks (aka ibooks). this all started with a 'oh yeah its apples anniversary, they should probably release some new stuff, cause we didnt get what we wanted at the 'fun new stuff' or macworld'

having said that, a fullscreen ipod video with bluetooth earbud headphones and a massive battery with similar form factor would be sooo sweet.

lets hope anyway :p......

Hmm...this is interesting. This isn't how I interpreted the article as it was originally written on AppleInsider... I didn't think it was saying that the c. 4/1/06 event will *not* occur. I just thought that they meant the analyst didn't believe that SJ is going to announce the products in question, at that anniversary event.

I sure hope that they *are* still having the media event *and* that the plans are to unveil the new vPod/movie store and iBooks...a 17" MBP wouuld be nice, too. ;)

We'll all know soon enough...

I'm going to have to say that there's not going to be another big media event on April 1st ... do they have to have media events practically every month??

There will be new products, and there will be more events, but I think it will be later in the spring, and I honestly think that some new products (like the remainder of the MacBook Pro line) will simply be added with announcements only on Apple.com.

I think Apple runs the risk of diluting the draw of their events just a tad if they hold too many. Remember when it was just 2-3 times a year that Apple made a big keynote?

If they don't release any products, sureley they will release some kind of aniverary advert/video like they did a ear or two back, which was near the G5 release.

You guys should play the keynote backwards...I'm sure the clue is in there in "Steve Code."

It's all about context. Just looking at the transcript it's difficult to tell. If you watch the keynote and his tone/inflection, it's clear that at that point in time, they had no plans for an April 1st event and he was sincere in his remarking on the 30th anniversary, not sure if he'd get the chance to mention it again (before it passed).

In essence, no April 1st event. Perhaps new products on the website, but no "mega-event." Stuff like this takes planning.

Stop reading between the lines for stuff that just isn't there.

Man I really hope you're wrong! Apple would never release something like major ibook revision without an event - no event means no intel ibook... :(

Unfortunately, I get the feeling you're right....

Come on Steve - we're counting on you!

i wonder what would happen if apple released new macbooks, vpods, iphones, etc. just on the website. no media event. nothing. just update the site with no products, and see how the public reacts. very interesting concept. :p ;) :D

generally, apple only puts small thing's updated online without an event. like more software or accessories on the store. never a new product. but we will have to wait.

Sorry for being pessimistic.
But I don't think we'll see any event for April 1. Since nothing happened today.
But that doesn't mean we might not see any product announcement.
The thing is any new amazing product will have Steve introducing it. So as far as today it feels like April 1 will only be a anniversary page at Apple.com.:(

As far as I recall, the invitations for the last 'Fun Stuff' event were only sent out about a week in advance. So there's still hope...

If the event takes place the tuesday after April 1st, it could even be a week from now until they're out.

I can't wait to get one of those new ibooks. I'm away from home for 3 weeks, and as I'm currently working on a paper, I have to use my windows laptop. I can't believe how much my imac has spoiled me - I use the same stuff on both computers yet I miss every single little thing my mac has got for me and makes my life so much easier.

SO what do they mean no April event? ibooks now, ibooks now!

Honestly, a 30th anniversary is too big to "disregard." Someone's already mentioned that they wouldn't release a media event for some stupid (rip-off) leather cases and much-more-expensive-than-you'd-like Minis/hi-fi.

i hope ubs is tryin to prank us because the anticipation of the true video ipod is holdin me back from a 5G.
