Actually, a few analysts have said that they don't expect any product releases for the 30th anniversary...

Looks like new iBooks/Macbooks won't be due till 30th April. I won't be surprised if they launch the 13.3" Macbook Pro on that day as well. Maybe the complete range on a single day.

If I remember correctly both the nano and the video were launched within a few days of each other.

I think it was like 4 or 6 weeks...the nano came out with the rokr phone in September, and then the video pod came out with the isight imac, I think around late October...

No, stock reasons are why they aren't going
to have an event. Remember, Steve just sold
his stocks. If they could have sold them AFTER
the event, they'd have made more. Since they
were sold, that must mean there was no event
planned and no products to release.

Sale of stock

I don't practice law in the US (I do in the UK) but if Steve had deliberately not sold his shares on the basis that he knew there was going to be an event which might put the price up then wouldn't that be insider trading? I don't think he would be dumb enough to get caught out like that - the sale of shares was to fund his tax liability and probably had no relation to the continued roll-out of intel products, which everyone knows is coming anyway.

It would make sense to rely on the expiration of the last sales promotion. Once the new Macbooks arrive, Apple will have to mark down the old ibooks anyway so it would be strange to have two other promotions for it at the same time. However, having a sales promotion end as early as March 31st doesn't affect the other promotions. They can still have more or just keep the financing one after the 31st.
Even when they do release the new MacBooks, there'll be some of the old ones left. The promotions could count for the old products but not for the new ones, which are likely to be named differently anyway. (The eligible hardware in the UK promotion specifically names iBooks and PowerBooks.)

Is it possible?

Is it possible that Apple will not hold an event and release the macbook anyway? Have they ever done that in the past?

and miss out on all the publicity? not likely.

on another note, jobs selling stock should not be seen as a sign of anything related to the release of new apple products.

So, Steve sells his stock to cover the taxes at the before the cool new "iPod G5 Phone Tablet" stock price. That way he pays the least amount in taxes, and then has all that other stock left over that will triple in the next month... he is a genius!!

so the consensus is nothing for the 30th anniversary?? that would suck.. truly..

I have been waiting on a laptop since September, I was frustrated after the feb event.. but if they don't release an ibook within the next week, I am thinking about skipping Apple completely.. come on, tell us when the thing is coming out.

Won't Jobs get flack for mentioning it at the Expo and then not delivering, that does not send a very good message.

Well done video. I like it...seems a bit long/repetitive for Apple, but I certainly liked it - very "Steve Jobs" era-esque.

Part of the video is from a Volkswagen ad. Whoever made it--and it's pretty well made, if repetitive--left the fine print in. Fake. :)

Not a bad video, but it is certainly not what it claims to be. There is no original footage. It just seems too compiled to be authentic, but that's just my opinion.

Agreed. It's definitely a compilation, albeit a very good one. Even though I don't believe that it is the 4/1 video, it was sort of exciting to watch! :D I hope we hear something from Apple soon!

Well, IMO, a H-E-double hockey sticks (L-L) of a lot more time went into making that video that it takes to photoshop a mock-up of a new apple product. If it's not real, then somebody put a LOT of time and effort into it just to entertain a few Mac afficionados and rumor followers.

It's just a bunch of old Apple clips spliced together, with far too much use of the graphite mouse and G4 iMac stuff. I'm sure that a lot of work went into the originals, but...

There are tons of these Apple video mashups floating around lately, and they all look about the same :p

Yeah the video is splice of all of Apple's own adds...just look at the ones for the iPods...nano and video specifically. Jobs would never just splice ads together to make a 30th video.

I wish there was something, but there is nothing coming out any time soon. MBP are selling well enough to keep Apple in buisness, why undercut their sales with a low cost MB?
