With the iPad family all moved to the new connector a refresh of the mini/iMac supporting only new connectors isn't a stretch. Technology wise the processor deserves a bump but GPU tech isn't much better than what it was with the 69xx series.

So people claim there will be a redesign, Which I agree on. Then they say reason it has taken so long is because there are problems making it. Which I also agree, I'll now stick with my 2011 model and buy on the second iteration of this redesign, NO WAY am i going to be the guinea pig for Apple on a product that is clearly having problem at the plant.

I'll look forward to todays event but I've made my decisions now to hold off, besides not as if my 2011 model is not SUPERB at what i throw at it or is slow, I was being greedy in wanting the new design, but seems like way to mush hassle as new iMacs (redesigns) always come with problems on first iteration.

Jim Dalrymple sort of hinted on his podcast there will be no iMac refresh today. It sounded like the new 13" Retina MacBook Pro is a certainty though! I believe the desktop refreshes (or whatever will replace them) will be on-hold until early to mid 2013.

Didn't find any tweet where Jim was sayin this, you said podcast..ok,but i don't buy it.

This is incredible,Apple isn't able to build a desktop anymore?
THEY can just swap the cpu,the motherboard and the Gpu while retaining the old superb design,or even less,"build" an MXM GPU with 680m for the SandyBridge we already have..,this is ridicoulous.

That's a good point, assuming the rumors for the delay are true. But just because there is a delay does not necessarily mean it is because there was a build problem, or that assembly difficulties would necessarily translate to problems in the life of the machine.

Dan Benjamin asked Dalrymple a couple of weeks ago on air about new machines but Dalrymple wouldn't say anything. A couple of days later on Siracusa's podcast Dan was adamant that we'd see a 13" rMBP.

Guess he had a nice little conversation off the air with someone. :D

I didn't listen to Dalrymple's latest podcast but if he'd suggested that there would be no iMac introduced today we'd have seen it retweeted and reported in Mac blogs/sites, I think.

Nah. The update will be pretty significant i think. Rumors all point to a redesign. But it needs to happen NOAW.

They could at the very least mention a upcoming release in the next few weeks. How can they fill an event with a tiny ipad that does the same as the big iPad?... If so, this will be the most boring event ever.

Yep they are probably going to make it thinner and remove the optical drive.

There is no new iMac for today... All new items are added to the apple store. Such as the new mac mini and a new iPad with retina display.

SHAME!

What are you talking about? store.apple.com is closed. We don't know what items are being added. Please stop with the high school bs drama.

I feel like they would want to spend a lot of time talking about the iMac

No they wouldn't. Portable devices sell in the tens of millions and drive Apple's profits.

Desktop computers are a minor part of Apple's computer business, which is driven by laptops. And Apple's computer business is a minor part of Apple's business.

Even the launch of the rMBP didn't merit its own media event. It was released at developer days.

I think an optical drive is still very necessary for a desktop. I understand it going away in the Mac Mini, but I think the iMac needs it. They just want more and more reasons for pros to buy Mac Pros over iMacs. Shame.

It's not going to have it. That much is certain if we get a redesign.

I don't think your waiting for an imac anyway George. From your profile you look Macced to the max. If its not released today can someone please pm me when it is released? I desperately need to stop checking this forum. Need to blow this popsicle stand

True, much more interested in a Mac Pro, but if the iMac lives up to my needs I'm interested in saving money. So far it never has.

I'm 99.99% certain an iMac update is coming today. My local Apple dealer has no current Gen iMacs in stock and they haven't placed an order for more of the current gen either, hinting at an update.

The guy in the store also told me an update must be coming as the current in store demo models are going to be shipped back to head office and become refurb units at a later date, that always happens when a product is about to get updated.

interesting.

Of course, they would have no clue as Apple won't tell them anything, but not being able to order new units is pretty telling.

Something must have let slip or I cant see why they would be sending back perfectly tidy and clean demo units back to head office for refurbishment. They would just stay in the store until the update actually happens. So I'm certain the update is coming today xD.

I hope so. I think most of us do at this point.

Yes it is ridiculous that Apple has had all this time to refresh a desktop and still is stuttering.

Maybe not a big update, but....

What about a small refresh, saving some big announcement for WWDC 2013 or another date? I dont see an iMac refresh stealing the thunder of the iPad mini o any other thing Apple delivers today, still....hope is the last to die.....:):apple:

Last I saw, the nVidia 680M benchmarks trounced the AMD 69xx benchmarks quite soundly.

Then again, I don't know if the heat output from 680M makes it impractical for a laptop/all-in-one

I got a text from a friend at the apple store. They are unpacking the new hardware stock. All ipad mini's and mac mini's but NO iMac's. Dunno what this means exactly, i think there is no update today.

iPad Mini's available today?

Doubtful. Usually a 10 day wait on iPads from being announced to release.
