So, do we feel this is Apple officially/unofficially leaking news to the media via the back door to kill expectations before the event?

If not, then there is no reason for this news to be true, and these devices may still show.

Yes, that is exactly what is happening. Apple is known to use re/code (well, it's previous incarnation) to manage expectations.

Retina might have made the MB Air thicker and would have reduced the battery life. We can't have those.

The invitation color is to me clearly a reference to the original imac, which had os9.

new imac: yes!
new mini: yes!
new models positioned above existing ones that soldier on indefinitely: priceless

Who buys the Macbook Air anyway.

My wife did. And as for anyone else, I would guess the people who buy one have roughly the same reason(s). It's a great portable laptop that does anything a consumer level user could want and stays synced with their other Apple ecosystem products.

Don't think a Retina MBA Will Ever Happen

Not sure why Apple would have a Retina MBA. There's already very little distinction between the Air and MBP (at least the 13 inch) and would be even more confusing for customers.

They want an entry level model to get people hooked on Mac
The rumored multi-colored MBA will fit this bill.

hehe nice apple...real nice....
Tim cook...you need to grow some manhood and tell intel to hurry up or move on....
like steve job.

Congrats on having worse taste than everyone else. Because Ives ugly designs is whats given Apple growing success the last decade.
If those plastic antenna bands on the iPhone 6 or the rectangular shaped, bloated Apple Watch are what you consider "good taste" then thanks for the compliment. Ive has done some great work, but he's not infallible.

I assume your joking.

I have used an MBA at work for a couple of years, and it has been flawless. I bought two for my kids for school (one is in college), and they love their MBAs.

I even bought one for myself for home use....paid $750 for a new 2014 MBA at BB. It is the best deal I ever got on a computer.

While I understand that some folks might want a hybrid tablet/laptop or others might prefer the MBP with retina, there is a huge market for an entry level laptop computer that is light, thin, fast, easy to use, and sports an incredible 12 hour battery life. If you start adding touch screens and retina displays, something will have to give (price, weight, battery life....something).

Can the MBA be improved? Of course. But, I hope that Apple continues to make a simple and highly functional entry level laptop. I am pretty sure that I am not alone!

No doubt the delay is from Intel's side. But knowing that Broadwell will ship first quarter (hopefully early first quarter considering much wait it had us put up already), they could announce it and ship later. Apple usually don't do events early in the year and it wouldn't be an event with only MBA release, though I guess they could squeeze in Apple Watch with more details and release schedule.

I also think the following will be mentioned at the event:

- Apple Pay
- Retina Thunderbolt Monitor

I have a 2012 MacBook Air and have no real reason to upgrade until Apple overhauls the line

Given the advancements in the Pro line, I expect cool things from the next Air iteration.

Thats completely fine IMO, as long as they release a new iMac :)

The current macbook is great, except the screen quality is a bit behind the competition right now, but the machine design, weight etc is still ahead of everyone else. I personally don't regard the Mabooc air as a workhorse anyway, so its better if Apple sped the time needed to actually make it a proper update. A speedbumped MB Air is pretty much pointless.

iMac on the other hand is a workhorse, and it needs an update. I look much more forward to this event than the iPhone event, this is truly were I like to invest my apple money. A new phone is just a new toy, if I were to buy an iphone only for practical use, I would still be on my iPhone 5 - But on iMacs the updates actually matters for my income and for making my life easier as a professional.

It's been way too long since we've seen an update to the Mac Mini. I'd really like to see an update to that and hope they retain its upgradable memory and HDD aspects.

And maybe see the dedicated GPU return. It may not be a real powerhouse, but I've used mine as a small gaming computer to pretty decent effect.

Please let it be more than simply new iPads, iMac or even MB's.

The invite says it's been way too long, but one year is hardly anything out of the normal.

Now the Mac mini and AppleTV is a different story. These two stick out as products who have not been updated in years.

As much as I'd hate to see the Mac mini disappear, perhaps this is where Apple finally shows their home theatre solution by merging the mini with an AppleTV.

-i like my iphone 6 better than my last iphone 5 or 5s, so for me iphone 6 is in the pipeline
-if they release retina imac, since i already have late 2013 15"MBP i will buy it so 2 products in the pipeline
-if they release the ipad with 2gb ram+touchid+A8X i will buy it, so 3rd product in the pipeline
-watch it is the beginning and i must be fair that it is a better looking starting product than the iphone was back in 2007, so 4 product (even if will be release in 2015)
-mac mini will be stunning so 5 products...what do you want more?

Probably they will make an event in Q1 2015 for 12" MBA+ipad pro+watch

The only thing that fits the "It's been way too long" bill seems to be the AppleTV. ..or maybe retina displays for the Mac Pro and/or iMac.

My money is on AppleTV, but branded as :apple:TV

..and I still wouldn't be surprised if a dual booting (iOS/OSX), convertible "iPad Pro"/MacBook Air is coming soon.
