Re: everyone moaning about Apple's releases so far.

We've seen the thinnest, fastest iPhone released, with a better screen, better camera (with 240fps slow mo), longer battery life. They introduced Apple Pay and last but not least shown off Apple Watch.

This is before the Mac/iPad event! What would it take to satisfy you?!

The MBA is such a stale product at this point. With the rMBP, it doesn't really serve a purpose anymore, retina screen or not.

"It's Been Way Too Long"

I take Apple at their words when they said this. They wouldn't be teasing this unless there's going to be a major update on a product that hasn't received one in a while. And I don't think it'll just be a minor speed bump / new processor. It'll be the real deal. I'm excited :).

We'll all find out on Thursday. All you party poopers just better be prepared to be proven wrong again :)

I think "It's been way to long" is a joke of sorts since they just had a product reveal last month and they are already having another one. It's in reference to no Apple product. Just my opinion.

Who cares about Apple pay? And the Apple Watch should be renamed the iFlop. I've never met anyone who wanted one of those.

I'm certain this tease is all to do with new displays, including a HDPI iMac.

How about this:-

No retina Imac, but 2 updated Thunderbolt Displays, one at 1440x2560 and one at 4/5k, and then.............a convergence of the iMac/Mac-mini line in a smaller form of the nMP.

The iMacminiPro:)

They want an entry level model to get people hooked on Mac.

The rumored multi-colored MBA will fit this bill.

Correct.

And the entry-level Macbook Air would not be a Retina model (at least not anytime soon)

Here are Apple's starting prices for each laptop:

$900 -- 11" Air
$1000 - 13" Air
$1100 - 13" Pro
$1300 - 13" Pro (Retina)
$2000 - 15" Pro (Retina)

I'm having a hard time figuring out how Apple would price a Retina Macbook Air based on their current lineup.

Apple charges a $300 premium for the 13" Retina Pro over the 13" Air... but you're also getting a beefier processor and better graphics to support that Retina screen.

The 13" Retina is half a pound heavier... but I doubt you'd even feel it. It's still considered very light by laptop standards. And while the Air is thinner at its thinnest point... the two are virtually identical at their thickest point. Again... you're not gonna notice it.

I guess my question is... why would we need a Retina Air when the Retina Pro already exists?

What's with apple making all these different size screens anyway. I thought that was a Samsung thing. Throw a size at the wall and hope it takes off.

Guys, seriously, there will almost certainly be no retina iMac tomorrow. Or for another year. 95% of the machine power would just be dedicated to keeping a still image in that resolution on screen. It's so unfeasible, without being insanely expensive, and at that price point you're talking Mac Pro.

Retina thunderbolt displays, almost certainly.

Colored Mac minis?

Seems like updated Apple TV's will also not be in the cards.

Sadly. I guess we'll need to wait until 2015.

I predict you are wrong.

I'm thinking they might unveil them at the February/March Apple Watch event. Although I can't help but shake the feeling that these things are tied to the iPad Pro in some way.

The lack of the retina MBA at this event shouldn't come as much of a surprise considering that the Broadwell chip it will almost certainly use has been delayed until early 2015. I suspect Apple would have liked to release it before the holidays, but they're at the mercy of what Intel can produce for their Macs.

The MacBook Air is the ultimate business travel computer, and in that context, I'll take more battery life over a retina display any time. Battery life on the current MacBook Air is... preposterously awesome... and I'll take that over a better display any time.

Now if Apple can package a retina display with 12 hour battery life? Well then I'm really excited.

Quite a lot of people seem to care about Apple Pay and the Apple Watch. Even if Apple Watch fails there is technology that can come to the iPhone.

Also this year Apple have introduced Swift, Metal, Continuity, HealthKit, HomeKit, Extensibility, iCloud Drive, and more.
