Meanwhile... it is beyond my understand why anyone would spend above retail for a $700 +/- item from a guy on the street. Just buy it from someone you can trust and deal with for less money. They just are not that hard to get.

U.S. States??? lol

Why the lol? The U.S. (United States) is country and the individual states are what comprises it. They are U.S. states, not to be confused with non-U.S. states. State is a word that is not exclusive to the U.S. In fact it predates it.

Just like saying ATM Machine :D

Not nothing like it. Your example it a a correct example of redundancy. "U.S. States " is not redundant.

Probably a good idea. Just get up at 3am and preorder like the rest of us, people! ;)

This is good. I remember buying the iPhone 4 in London and standing in a 1 hour line with a number of people that basically rotated around to the back of the line each time after they had bought one iPhone. They had bags full of the things, paid cash Sopranos style (several thousands with a rubber band around them) and the staff didn't care at all.
The staff cares. Trust me. It's the first thing they talk about on break. It's just they can't do anything about it. What would you do? "Oh, you're Asian. You must be reselling this. Sorry, you can't buy it."

I have my perfectly functioning 6 and 2014 Moto X, so I'll wait too. I was planning on upgrading though, but I'll be waiting it out this year.
I do not need to upgrade, I just need that the applications get better. Navigating in Spotify is a mess, Appel music is a disaster. I used to use Grooveshark that was awesome but now is gone. No need to upgrade, everybody else needs too.

What gets me, an Oregon resident, we are being penalized for no sales tax. Why not verify Apple ID with local ID so we can purchase in store. Seems like a simple solution as opposed to NO in store sales. My rant for the day.

Because those who are also local to you, in Vancouver, are then screwed as they'd have to make the 4 hour drive up to Seattle to get a phone, while their closest Apple store would be less than 15 miles.

Would it be fair for it to be 'for Oregonians only'? How discriminatory.

BL.

I'm pretty close to both the Washington Square store as well as Bridgeport. I love the reservation idea. I sit at home, or wherever comfy and make a reservation for my phones. I then have a time to go into store and get them. No need to drive 30mins to the store(s) each day to possibly get turned away because out of stock!

While Apple has ended launch-day pre-orders and in-store reservations for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, the company is suggesting that those customers still intent on purchasing one on launch day visit an Apple retail store Friday for a chance at scoring some of the remaining launch-day stock at those locations. But for customers in four U.S. states, China, Japan, and Hong Kong, these walk-in sales are not an option, notes The Oregonian.

The disclosure was made in a footnote on Apple's press release this morning making a final announcement about Friday's launch plans and reporting record adoption of iOS 9: "iPhone is available by reservation only in China, Hong Kong, Japan and US stores in tax-free states."

The four U.S. states with Apple retail stores that are affected by this policy include Oregon, Delaware, New Hampshire, and Alaska. Montana is the fifth U.S. state without a statewide sales tax, but Apple does not have any retail stores located in the state.

The reason behind the ban on walk-in sales in these states is likely their attractiveness to scalpers.Hong Kong has long been a popular location for iPhone scalpers to operate as they attempt to move gray-market phones into China, but with China having taken on increased importance for Apple and in fact being included in the first wave of iPhone 6s launches, both countries are likely in Apple's crosshairs this time around as it hopes to limit those snapping up limited supplies of the new devices to resell for significant profits.

Okay with me since I plan on buying my 6S after Thanksgiving! Enjoy the fuss and craziness! LOL!

Regarding the awkward phrasing of "4 U.S. states" ...

I think I would have written it thusly, "four states, China, ..." as Macrumors is a U.S. based website and the reader should understand in that the story is referring to four individual states, based on the context.

Also, I would consider listing the four states individually, along with the international locations affected, although that would be a little wordy.

In the end, everyone has their own opinion and as long as it's grammatically correct, it's OK.

It's not really an opinion.
It is exactly like Italy and its regions, Switzerland and its cantons, or Mexico and its states.

Also, US is a country. States are states.
United States is composed of fifty states.
United States is singular.
United States is a different entity with different jurisdiction than each of the fifty independent States (of which four are Commonwealths)

Really glad I pre ordered it and reserved it for the Portland store... What's crazy is i'm actually driving like four hours to grab it, since I live at the other end of the state.

What store? I reserved at Bridgeport. Kinda happy knowing I won't also have to deal with a line for walk ups. Although, I bet there will still be some clueless people that due line up.

Right? Now I have to go to a carrier location (which tend to carry less stock) to buy the phone since I did not preporder?

Last year I camped out from 7 PM
the night before. My intention was to buy an iPhone 6 Plus.

I was number 150. 2 other people in line were actually keeping their phone in front of me.

I got in at 1 PM. Ended up with a regular 6 and one for my girlfriend.

I COMPLETELY support this movement. It's a small start, but at least Apple is taking notice. I won't buy another phone until next year, but what used to be a fun lineup has turned completely miserable with this practice. I'll never line up again, I preordered my iPad Air 2 and got it a day early. It's all about waiting to preorder and being quick with the trigger lol.
