I know you read these folder Steve, so here is the list.
no they match current tech, beacuse there is no newer tech yet, and no it is not feaseble for apple to make SS motherboards before intel delivers the components
the 3.0ghz xeons are a limited yield from exciting yields, because of the limited yield they gave them to apple in some exlusive deal, the components for a motherboard are not limited yields they just get produced
pricing is another debate
basicly you want a discount beacuse the macpro is more than 6 months on the market
Bah.
On the edge of whether I should pull the trigger or not.
Ehhhhhhhh.
a Graphics card BTO option is hardly worth mentioning at a keynote. Heck, they released a whole new Macbook Pro last week without a big fancy event. You guys make me laugh.
As many have said, a Mac Pro update isn't likely to happen until after Intel announces the Seaburg chipset. Has Intel announced this... let me check... nope. So no Mac Pro updates.
I am going to hold out for awhile. I think it will be worth it. Even if it isn't tomorrow. I don't see why they would release hardware tomorrow, but it is possible. Have they done that before?
I just bought a bunch of parts for a Mac Pro (Ram, display, Hard drive), now I am ready to order the system.
IF I order it tonight and it gets updated tommorow will Apple make adjustments?
I'm excited about getting this system.
I can't wait any longer.
I think the only thing worth waiting for now is the Intel chip price drops about a month away. The possibility of Mac Pro price drops with them.
That's all.
But I don't think they will drop the price of the Mac Pro and if they do it will be next to insignificant.
Buy now if you're buying I think. Don't think I'm waiting. Certainly not to October. But I would never hold off a machine purchase solely for an OS update.
What does Intel have to do with it? Blame Apple's wonderful chioice of "EFI" instead of using the standard BIOS.
It will never come in a stock Mac Pro.

Actually no, I don't want a discount. I want hardware that matches what ia available today. I have been with Apple long enough to know they don't drop prices like Dell does.
Whats more, I said it isn't even about SS. So why keep mentioning it. Could they get it if they wanted it, yes. I will not back down from that. You do not have inside information as to what Intel is producing and what they aren't, however that is not the problem.
They match current tech huh? What about that Intel price drop around the corner? 1GB FB-DIMMs as well as 2GB DIMMs have fallen significantly in price, and have you heard of that 8xxx series from nVidia, didn't the MBP get one of those, yeah it did.
The Mac Pro does not offer current options, it has outdated GPUs, a low baseline for the memory and the chips can be shifted due to the drop in price from Intel.
Keep the price the same, but give me hardware that matches what I can get today, not a year ago.
so basicly what you are saying is that you DO know what is possible at intel and that you don't want a price drop you just want more memory for less money
there is no new technology, i don't disagree with a price-drop, but if you want more memory its available, if you want a better graphic option get a fx4500, if you want the top of the line xeon get the 3.0ghz, its all there i dont know what more you want (correction i do know you want: a price-drop and intel tech that is not yet produced)
Now that I'm thinking about it, the MacBook Pro's were updated "Quietly" last week with no mention by Jobs. He didn't say a damn thing, he was strictly software today.
I will order the Mac Pro TOMMOROW, just incase of any update.
Good choice. I didn't expect them to have the Beatles come back and play a song about the new Mac Pro. I simply expected a nice refresh.
Good luck FF, I want to pull the trigger, but I can't just yet. You said you bought some stuff for your Mac Pro. What did you get?
I bought 2 gigs of ram from OWC and a 320 gig hard drive, then bought a 20 inch Widescreen Display (ACER) from Newegg.
Now I wait and see if Apple gives a little bump to the Mac Pro.
So if it is not announced how do we know about it? Whats more. I KNOW that Intel is dropping prices on July 22nd and I KNOW that SS has be demonstrated. And again SS is the least of my concerns. I do think Apple could get it if they wanted it early. UNDERSTAND THIS: I DO NOT WANT SS, I THINK IT IS POSSIBLE FOR APPLE TO GET IT, HOWEVER IT IS NOT ON MY LIST OF THINGS I NEED. I have already stated what I expect in this thread and others. Some quotes from previous posts by me:
"Whats more, I said it isn't even about SS."
"It isn't even about SS. Technology has moved forward regardless of that."
Do you still not get it? I dont not want tech Intel "doesn't have" (when in fact they do).
The base Mac Pro should have 2GB, are you saying ti shouldnt? Are you saying that memory prices are still so high to demand that we stay at 1GB? Heck, the MBP has 2GB across the board. Did I say more memory for less money? No, Memory prices have come down enough for Apple to offer 2GB in the stock configuration. Do you think that is not the case?
Yes 3.0Ghz is here, for a rip me of upgrade price. And again I KNOW that Intel is dropping prices. With that in mind should I buy a Mac Pro today? No. Because chances are Apple will drop the 2.0 and move the 2.66 to the low end, or something to that effect. Just like the Macbook was specd up to 2.16. It isn't any different. And as I have said before, just because the Mac Pro is upgradable does not make it exempt from offering a base configuration that keeps up with the times. I don;'t know why this is so difficult for some of you to understand.
No new tech? What about that 8xxx series in the MBP, I suppose that isn't new right? Is the 7300GT not a last gen product that has been replaced by better GPUs? Please enlighten me if you think that is not the case? Is the X1900XT still the top of the line GPU? I didn't think so.
I want:
CPU changes that reflect the Intel price drops, doesnt have to be this week. But until it happens I am not buying
GPU: An 8xxx series in the stock config. 8300, 8600 whatever.
RAM: 2GB stock
HD: 500GB would be nice, again pricing allows for that, if not oh well.
Would be nice:
SS
BT and WiFi standard.
If you look you will see that jives with what I have been saying, so please read and stop telling me what I want when I am cleary saying I do not want it but think it is possible to have it. (notice I didn' say possible now, but I think in the near future.)
