I have said it could be updated today. I know that full well. But of course you are right... :rolleyes:

Is that really likely though? have they EVER done that?

I think it'll be another month, personally. Otherwise they would've done it at the keynote and just said "shipping in X weeks".

I mean that Leopard demonstration was OBVIOUSLY a huge god damn cop-out because they had NOTHING to show. It was all stuff we already knew, with a few minor and inane exceptions.

Yeah, we've SEEN time machine before as well as the iChat effects (which have nothing to do with anything, so wtf). GET OVER IT APPLE, SHOW US SOMETHING NEW.

And let us not forget that leopard would've been OUT already if it weren't for the stupid-ass iPhone which caused Apple to push it back. What they should've done was apologize for the Leopard setback, announced Safari for windows, and saved us all an hour and a half by ending the keynote early.

I mean, this is the DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE. Way to waste everyone's time, Apple.

Agreed.

And Apple has stalled creatively with even the look of Leopard.

? about the Blu-ray

there is NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING, new to put in a Mac Pro... too early for a Blu-ray drive (needs new quicktime and DVD player),

I have really been hoping & waiting for the Mac Pro to arrive with Blu-ray not to watch movies, but to be able to archive on more than just the external hard-drives.

Then I guess you are saying until a new quicktime, October, there won't be Blu-ray in a Mac Pro as a standard option?

What happen to the idea that the computer was a tool for work not an entertainment center? I have a kayak for that.

I have to agree… I too was expecting and waiting for a Mac Pro revision.

Just a speed bump and repositioning, without any price changes… though they can do that if they want :)

I am in a similar quandry, the MBPro looks enticing, with all the power and bit included (BT, AE, 2GB), but I have a MacBook for my mobile computing. So my desktop needs updating and I am just hanging on because I know there will be some changes just around the corner.

I wouldn't buy from them if the stuff was free. That website is not only stolen from apple, it looks like it went up last night.

Did you check the where to buy, you can buy it from MacMall, ClubMac, Small Dog Electronics.

Apple doesn't own Lucida font, black backgrounds, or tables, you silly bastard.

Also, those drives are really good.. there are cheaper ones available elsewhere that are compatible with toast, but that doesn't mean this is a bad drive or a bad company.

LOL.

Yeah but they say out of stock. Will be in stock on 6/8/2007. Um that was last week. When a store is run by one dude, he tends to forget the little things. Like SHIPPING the order. :p

Perhaps the new Mac Pros will be like this:
All 8 core
2GB default, expandable to 32GB (I heard some people say that the Mac Pro can have more than 16GB of memory)
nVidia 7800 GT default, nvidia 8800GT and ATI x2900 as options
250 GB hard drive default, options of 1TB drive and maximum storage for the Mac Pro will be 4TBs.
Possible Stoakley Seaburg platform
Same cost

over it. DID it. ordered it. Its shipping. Its mine.

2.66
x1900
4GB from crucial
2nd monitor from B&H
wireless keyboard/mouse

And I feel Sooo much better... I have ended my own waiting game.:D

I can't see the stock graphics card being anything other than a low power one, be it a 7xxx series, 8xxx series or ATI 2xxx series card. Remember that most probably don't need it, and Apple want people to be able to have 4 of them in the machine if needs be. Otherwise I think you're specs are likely, in keeping with how Apple have positioned the MP and hardware revisions.

I don't know about the vid cards, I think they may just go all NVidia 8000 series, but I'm sure they'll have a 500GB default hard drive.

Other than that I think you're right. Definitely all 8 core, definitely 2GB, definitely same cost. I'm not sure about SS--I don't know if it's needed. Also, I'm not sure about 32GB max RAM... not many people were complaining about 16 max :) By the time they release it, TB drives will be out (ugh), so yeah, 4 TB max.

Since Leopard is delayed, they may update QT and whatnot to handle bluray, then throw in a blu ray burner as an expensive BTO option. That's crazy talk though :)

edit: just read the 32GB post--looks compelling. we'll have to see

Well I said i was gonna wait till WWDC, I have. Nothing happened so I pulled the trigger. It came down to the 2.66 and the 8-core, but ultimately this is a home computer for personal projects and knowing i was gonna add another 1100$ onto what i got from apple, it started to get silly. Zbrush and Mudbox need ram, the 2.66 will already cut my render times by a factor of 6-8 times.

* Processor 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
* Memory 1GB 667 DDR2 FB DIMM ECC-2x512
* Graphics Card ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB
* Hard Drive Bay1 500GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s drive
* Optical Drive 2x16x SuperDrive DL
* Wireless Option Airprt Extrm & BT 2.0+EDR
* Keyboard Language Apple Kybd & Wrls Mgty Ms

I also have an external 500GB My Book premium FW drive still in the box I'll use as an external Time machine drive when 10.5 arrives.
And will be ordering from OWC in the next day or two;
4x2GB Netlist ram
1x 500gb WD SATA II drive

Should be a nice improvement over the G4 FW800 1.25 DP i'm typing from.

9GB, I'll move the 2x512 sticks to 5th and 6th positions so i'm getting my quad channel from the 4x2gb. I read somewhere u need to have the OEM ram present or it voids the apple care warranty.

Parallels 3 looks good with the GFX support. R ppl recommending you Install windows (boot camp) onto a totally unique drive, or just a partition?

Well I've bit the bullet and ordered a 2.66 Mac Pro yesterday morning. It doesn't ship till next Wednesday, and the strangest thing is I only added on Bluetooth and Airport. The Apple Store in the UK says Mac Pro's shipped within 24 hours. Surely it takes 5 minutes to add BT/AE, not 5 (working) days!

Maybe a refresh next Tuesday?

I've ordered the exact same spec as you on Tuesday evening. The order status also said that it would take 5 working days to ship (Tuesday). Imagine my surprise when I got an email earlier today stating that it had already shipped. At the moment its at Cork, Ireland heading to England.

Arrg!!! Stop making me jealous people!!! It makes me want to order!! GRRRR!!! Someone... talk me into/ out of it!!!

For the record I have no computer, I sold my Macbook already... It will be tough to be without... but ugh.

Remember when you buy the updated Mac Pro, there will always be people who will make threads like "I should've waited before I bought" or "I got the old Mac Pro yesterday and the new Mac Pro was released today, should I return the old Mac Pro?".

This is true, but the Mac Pro as it is has enough power for me. And if there is an update coming any time soon, it won't be a big deal

I hate to say it (but I will)… I suspect that now WWDC announcements (or lack of) have settled, we will see a refresh of the MacPro this Monday or Tuesday.

They are shipping out very quickly any new orders placed the beginning of the week, my bet is orders placed today and over the weekend will be delayed and auto-upgraded. :)
