Look Samsung, you don't have to copy the iPhone. There are options.

Try to be an original. Good boy :D

Yeah, instead they can copy second gen iPod Nanos with bigger screens.

And fail @ MacRumors for even posting this ****. I'd rather come here and find NO news instead of news about windows phones and Nokia.

I like it. I like for my little brother. The only problem is the plastic. I haven't played with it obviously but nokia has a very reputation of making bad plastic products. I myself have dealt with phones like N72 and others which are not very elegant to use and don't have good or decent aesthetics. The build quality is a big dent on the user experience.

Lets see. :)

Build quality on the 800 is so far seen as top-notch. Same as the N9 in other words. Haven't seen anything about the 710 yet.

Sexy phone! Makes the iPhone look like a dead fish! Might be my next phone. Can't beat Nokia hardware, and Windows phone is only improving. Like where Windows OS is heading. Windows 8 looked very impressive and appealing, so does this windows phone. By the time I finish with this 4s, am sure enough apps in their store would make me not miss iOS if I switch. They do make it very appealing for developers.

Love competition!

It's relevant in that it's a major competitor.... No one is forcing you to read/comment on this news article if you don't like it. Get over yourselves.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

The name is fail. Lumia means in Spannish whore!

Siri means "buttocks" or "@$$" in Japanese. In Georgian it means "penis."

I can't believe how many narrow minded people are posting here.

I say bravo to MS and Nokia... nicely done.
Not my thing personally, but no need to blindly rip and bash or come up with outlandish or flat our false characterizations because of it.

Some of you really need to grow up.

Let the childish down voting begin.

Not really; this is Nokia's real launch into the modern smartphone world, and it is generating a lot of media buzz. I think there is a difference between a site like this reporting on every product competitors make and reporting on competitor's major new launches. I didn't mean that MacRumors should tell us about EVERY product ever made by anyone in competition with Apple. Maybe I should have phrased it better.

You do have a good point. Perhaps my smartassery was unwarranted.
I guess I just don't particularly envision this as any kind of *particular* threat to the iPhone/Apple. But I suppose that could just be my bias.

I thought I'd like the advertised turquoise color but OMG it looks like plastic crap in real life !

Image

The stock picture in the article makes it look just like the anodized aluminum housing of the 2nd / 4th / 5th iPod Nanos. THAT would have been sweet. This picture makes it look like just another cheap phone in a cool color. It also looks like they just used a bunch of iPhone 3G sleep/wake buttons around the edges, but that's just me.

The number of incredibly stupid comments in this thread is astonishing. MacRumors should have an age limit for registering here.

800 is gorgeous, basically an N9. While it doesn't pack super specs of Android phones, watch the videos, it's because it doesn't need them. The phone whole is extremely fast. Nokia's addition of free 3D turn-by-turn navigation is a huge plus for WP7 users.

While 710 doesn't have the same gorgeous design as 800, it is understandable as it is a budget phone. The price you people saw is for UNLOCKED. Show me a smartphone for $300 as unlocked. And it's clear that 710 is for teens with exchangeable covers.

I am actually planning on getting Lumia 800 to try it while I await for N9 white 64GB. Mango looks incredibly interesting to try out. And with gorgeous 800 design, this really is a unique WP7 phone. This is what Nokia does best, designs world's best looking phones, unlike any other.

People need to kill off their fanboyism, and be realists. This are great looking phones and WP7 will see an increase in users with designs like that, it's just a fact. Stop posting stupid comments people. This thread is here because this is a LEGITIMATE competitor to Androids and iPhone.

Competition is good for consumers, look at what competition creates...great looking phones. With launch of Lumia line, it will only force Android manufacturers and even Apple to create new designs.. How is that a bad thing?

Wow… That Windows Phone OS looks so amazingly bad I can't believe it. How can you make two-dimensional, single-colored squares with photos in them, and logos, side by side, pushed to one side of the screen, with a big black bar containing a single button on the right side? What ever happened to design? This looks like Windows 95! If something looks that bad, I just can't go beyond it...

Nokias naming scheme for dummies:

1xx - low end.
9xx - high end.

Yeah, real hard to get, aint it?

Except that they have changed it a bunch of times. They had N and E series phones, then added C and X series, dropped the letters, and now seem to have started over again with numbers.

Oooooooooo SNAP ON COLORED COVERS!!
That's SO 1996. I want the Hello Kitty one.
(Ugly phones, BTW. Don't know about the OS.)

The Lumia 710: available in black and white... how original

Seriously, do you think Apple invented doing technology in black and white? I'm amazed you all don't bitch about other colors ripping off the old fruity iMacs.

I suppose you think my black triathlon suit and white truck ripped off Apple too.

Yeah right  because endless rows of little disorganized icons that can't communicate with each other is so much better??

Gimmie a break

Maybe try it before knock it.

I have an iPhone 4 and a Samsung Focus. WP7 is pretty damn good.

Competition is good.

The smart phone companies like Nokia should offer cash back of $50 or similar for a contract. Look at all the knuckleheads jumping on buying a iPhone 3GS just because it is "free".

However, they really won't never learn from Apple. I mean, a product name should indicate something to the consumer, make sense for him. "Lumia 800" or "Lumia 710", are such bad names! Numbers that mean nothing are not a good way to inform the consumer about which product do what.

'Cause calling the 5th iteration of the iPhone the 4S is so clear.
Seriously?

Wrong! N97, N95, N90, N82, N75 and N900 are all high end nokia smartphones, N series being media driving, E series being business driven. but the numbers denote the high(9X or 9XX) and the low.
