I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but I actually like these cases very much. Sure, I don't use my phone as a fetch toy for dogs or anything like that, so I did not have any problems with it.

Bought one around November and it's still looking as it was when I purchased it. The only difference is that it has skin oils embedded in it - but that's a normal thing and can be washed off easily with a bristle toothbrush.

Not sure what people are doing with their phones that it gets so bad...
Same here. I have a fine woven wallet since they released. No issue at all and looks great.

Been using two of these cases since day one and they clean up nicely and there has been very little wear. They stay looking new for longer than the leather ones ever did. They just don't have quite the same premium feel but I can live with that.

I find Joanna Stern's relationship with Apple interesting

she calls out the company's occasional idiotic logic and overt bean counting and still get priority access year-over-year. I guess WSJ credentials will allow for that. Apple isn't going to not let WSJ get dibs.

...Still, good for her, tbh.
Though Gruber is one of her media peers and friends, she is like the anti thesis of that undisciplined sycophant.

She occasionally rapid fires uncomfortable questions to Craig Federighi and other execs, making them opt out of responding.

Whereas Gruber asks if they need a foot rub.

The genius of Apple is to buy a case for 25¢ and sell it for $59. Volume doesn't matter. Durability doesn't matter. Margins are Apple's bread and butter, and there's no sin in that. You don't have to buy it, you know…

Reminds me of the man selling apples during the Great Depression for $1 million each. Some wit says to him, "You won't sell many apples at that price!" Man replies, "I only have to sell one…"

I don't know if people know this, but you can just carry a phone around without a case. They come with a hard protective shell.
Hard, yes. Also brittle.

Protective? You have no idea how many cracked glass backs I've seen. I don't know if they're just using significantly worse glass than on the screen or if there's something else going on. But the glass backs are fragile. Plastic would be a FAR better material.

Apple's $59 FineWoven cases for iPhone 15 took heavy flak when they were released last September for being subpar compared to the leather Apple cases they replaced. Now, The Wall Street Journal columnist Joanna Stern has distilled customers' ire by sharing her own experience with the case after five months of use.

From Stern's newsletter:
An Apple support document offers advice about cleaning its FineWoven cases, but the section's small print admits that "The material may look different and show wear over time as the fibers get compressed with normal use" and that "some scratches may diminish over time."

Responding to Stern's five-month review, Daring Fireball's John Gruber created identical polls across multiple social media platforms asking FineWoven case owners for their opinion, and respondents appear to have overwhelmingly voted in agreement that "It's a piece of junk."

Despite the continued bad publicity almost six months on from the cases' debut, Apple still appears unwilling to admit that its leather alternative material is a letdown. But in the court of public opinion, all the evidence suggests this is an open and shut case: FineWoven is just bad.

Soooooo happy I returned mine immediately after launch and opted for an awesome Sandmarc leather case! Holds up much better and even better than Apple's old leather cases..... Priced was nearly same also!

IMG_1087.jpegIf anyone wants a beautiful and great-performing case, I'd like to recommend carved.com. You'll pay a little more, but you'll have a case that you're in love with. I love my Live Edge case.

I use the wallet all the time; it's just as bad as the case. Just an awful set up. The efforts are good for the environment; but it's a junky product.

There it is, everyone. My iPhone 15 Pro Max's FineWoven case after five months of use. The edges are peeling, the fabric is scratched up like an old CD and it's browning like a rotten banana. I've been waiting for the CDC to show up at my house to declare it a biomedical concern.

FineWoven is just bad.

Sigh……. 🤦‍♀️

This is 100% NORMAL on product like this. Just like with leather, natural colors will end up appearing overtime.

This is nothing new on natural fiber based materials like this.

If you wanted something that doesn’t discolour, then go get a nylon case or synthetic fiber case which can cost more.
