aTV economics work for me...
My math says I paid $140 a month for that 'free' cable box (actually, for HD, I had to pay 5/month rental), on top of 'bundled' internet.
Where do you get expanded basic cable and premium channels for free? I can't PPV unless I actually subscribe to the channel
On aTV If I watch nothing, I pay nothing...
If I watch nothing on the cable box, I pay $30/week.
Thats a lot of rentals.
I figure aTV would pay for itself in 2 months, even after paying $55 a month in 20mb DSL
I'm not a sucker and I like iAds. Why do you hate it lol? It just replaces the existing ads by other companies, except they are far less intrusive.
Before iAd (iPhone 3) the only ads were on web pages and those could be controlled. With iOS, the ads are dug in deep and are everywhere. It totally ruins the experience of what would otherwise be a more flawless device. You seriously like seeing advertisements pop up, all the time, when you're trying to do something on a device you bought and own? What if your car flashed an ad on your windshield every time you accelerate or brake, would you still like advertisements? I can't believe you're for real.
the 2500 miles i have logged on nike+ would prove you wrong.That is the shuffle's market, now you have two devices with essentially the same market.

you may take a look at the new mac mini.Steve fails. Nano is pathetic. No point to a touch screen on a device that small. It can't even play video! Seriously. Apple TV fails too. What a giant leap backwards! He is totally off the mark in saying people don't want a computer for their TV. I've been saying this for a very long time, and here is what I think Apple TV needs to succeed...
Apple needs to create a one stop box for consumers to have in their living rooms (kind of what like the xbox hoped to be, but failed because its marketed only to gamers). At the moment we have a bunch of different boxes and remotes in our living rooms. What I want is a box that can do everything.
1) Download apps, and not just crappy iOS apps either. I'm talking full blown games to rival PS3 and 360.
2) Stream stuff wirelessly from my Mac iTunes libraries
3) Stream stuff wirelessly from the net
4) Play my blu-ray movies (yes blu-ray optical drive included please)
5) Full 1080p res
Minimizing functions (doing a few key things well) may work for things like the iPad where aesthetics and ergonomics are paramount, but for the Apple TV, well Steve needs to toss that logic. Less is NOT more with the Apple TV. People want it to do as much as it possibly can. At the moment there is no decent online store for TV apps, I dont want a PS3 AND an Apple TV. I just want an Apple Box!
Can someone explain to me why they took away the ability to purchase movies from iTunes on the AppleTV? I'm assuming this also defeats the previous model of syncing movies? So now I'm forced to leave my MBP open and running in order to stream to the AppleTV? WTF? They could have easily stuck a 16GB flash drive in there, like the Touch. Stupid.
Hopefully Apple doesn't remove this from the older hardware.
so is the R&D of the iPod Touch (via the iPhone)
I think the point was that this is an iPhone minus several expensive parts, plus nothing, and costing "more."
say it's subsidized all day, but the prices are wrong. especially the nano's price. The shuffle seems like a good price, though. more than competitors, but not too much more, and it's apple.
the 8gb touch shouldn't exist, and the 16 gb should be 199-219 or so.
US = ATV $99
UK = ATV £99
Looks like I need to send Steve Jobs a link to the Currency App...
Well part of the difference is your tax is included.
Part of it is that it costs significantly more to do anything with anything in the UK. Fuel costs for shipping to stores/distribution are higher. I don't know if you realize this, but the cost of living is a bit higher in the UK than the US.
Part of it is to subsidize the wonky power plugs for your tiny market. (jk)(kind of)
I know I am spewing out crazy talk now, but maybe more goes into the price difference than the exchange rate. Apple is in no way unique in this regard. If you do not feel like you are getting any benefit from the higher cost of living in your area, you should consider moving...

How much do you expect for $99?

Well, I can get a 16GB flash drive for less than $30. So make the damn thing $129. Steve OPENLY said the device is for a specific group of people, why worry about pricing?
A $99 rental box is ridiculous - and he admits it's ridiculous when you have to throw in a Netflix front-end to make it sound appealing.
Better yet, wait until the whole cloud thing is working and release it then. That way, customer goes onto iTunes and buys said movie. You have the ability to watch it on any device with your iTunes account and internet connection. Problem solved. And we all know Apple will have an "event" in which they tout how you will be able to (finally) stream any of your purchased content without a computer.
Somewhat confused on the vertical orientation of the buttons in iTunes... ? I guess it's to save space at the top?
It's odd isn't it. iTunes seems to be a place where Apple is happy to tinker around with (bastardise) standard OS X GUI elements. We're all used to it now but those scroll bars are another example that is still out of step with the rest of the OS.
I'd love to know what the reason is. Are they using iTunes as a platform to experiment and gauge user response?
For a product which is nerfed in the UK (unless im wrong and Netflix has suddenly started streaming movies to the UK),
