The new Apple TV is a Pay-Per-View box that you have to pay for. I already have one of those that my cable company gave me for free but not interested in paying out the butte to watch tv. Sorry Apple, I'm interested in upgrading my Touch and hope to soon, I love your MBP's, Mac OS X is awesome and I'm even mildly interested in iPad (but it's too costly imo), but your Apple PPV Box and iAds (i hate you iAd) is for suckers. You could give me one (ATV) for free but I wouldn't use it.
The problem with a touch interface is that you simply don't have the tactile feedback of real buttons. Also, you're gonna have to use one hand to hold the thing and use the other to prod at it. I like using my nano (4th gen) one handed...
Also, the screen's so small that you can hardly fit anything worthwhile on it, especially with the chunky interface Apple has gone for (mainly looking at song listings here). And if it's like any of the other touch devices, long titles/album names/artist names won't scroll around.
It's a disaster from a usability point of view.

Yeah they didn't do much. They just took out the hard drive and made it $99.
iPod Touch rear-camera resolution
I would imagine it's a mistake. It's inconceivable that such "technological breakthrough" the iPod Touch is would come with a 600K pixels camera and expect us to take photos with it.
Something has to be wrong with the specs on the website, otherwise I would strongly recommend Apple to take a "reality check" before crippling and/or destroying a great product by adding junk features to it.
Personally, if it's not a megapixel camera, I'm not purchasing one. I'm not going to carry an iPod Touch and a camera separately.

If you want GOOD photos or photos for PRINTING, you HAVE to carry a good camera.If you're just making photos for your facebook account, iPod's camera is just fine. Megapixels are NOT = quality.

also, touch is not a camera hence the low resolution. it's a video camera competing w/ flip. do u see flip taking 5mp pic?

I wish all music would have to be loaded via Apple Lossless. It should be a law. You kids today are listening to really crappy quality (not talking about the artists). And this idiot trend by record companies to make everything louder. That worked when you had Mono on AM radio car speakers but even the remastering of classic albums with pumped up volume now is BS? Maybe you don't give a crap but....

Shuffle - Actually has controls on it, definitely good.
Nano - Ruined it, touch devices suck for music and are more dangerous to operate in a car. You also can't reach into a jacket or pants pocket and control them with out pulling the device out and looking at it.
Apple TV - HDMI video only? Not good. Optical sound only? HDMI and optical sound great for serious home theater but then only lame-o 720P. Few using HDMI into a display unit and optical sound into a surround receiver are going to want crummy 720P. Apparently the ATV is still too weak to do real video work. No thanks, I'll pass on another hobby device.

A question about the crappiness of the rear-facing camera on the new Touch.
I've heard that there are programs (so far only useable on the iPhone) that allow one to 'scan' barcodes, and do other similar things. So, for instance, some programs allow you to scan barcodes in order to make a shopping list. Will the camera on the Touch be sufficient to run those sorts of apps?

A 1mega pixel will be sufficient. Those apps where running on 3G/S iPhone for ages.
Beside what were you expecting, Apple has being doing this for 3 years now. Best feature= iPhone.
Last gen= iPod touch.
It has been good enough that it got Retina.

But the iPhone is either $99 , $199, or $299??
Apple might as well ditched the 8GB touch and just did 32GB 64GB & 128GB

You aren't reading, dimwit. It's a "retina" display, sure. All that means is that it has 960x640 pixels of resolution. But apparently, it's not IPS, which is the main reason the iPhone 4 display is so good. Better colors, better contrast, deeper blacks, better viewing angles... that's the benefit of IPS.
do you relize they put in a retina display and 2 cameras in the new touch?
apple is probably making less per sale with each ipod touch even with the 30 dollar raise.
