do you relize they put in a retina display and 2 cameras in the new touch?

apple is probably making less per sale with each ipod touch even with the 30 dollar raise.

memory cost has nothing to do with it.

Did you mean to quote iDisk? Because yeah I agree with what you said and that was my point.

Anyways, I'm curious. Does anyone here watch video on their iPod nanos often? Do you find it worthwhile?

Something similar to that at least.

iPad and HDR? So we get a camera with the software update? neat.

Yea I noticed that comment too. I started thinking .... hmmm ..... wonder if the iPad will have a camera in the not-too-distant future?? :D

Also .... very excited about the updates!! The new Touch is amazing!!!!

Cheers.

The new Apple TV is a Pay-Per-View box that you have to pay for. I already have one of those that my cable company gave me for free but not interested in paying out the butte to watch tv.

aTV economics work for me...
My math says I paid $140 a month for that 'free' cable box (actually, for HD, I had to pay 5/month rental), on top of 'bundled' internet.

Where do you get expanded basic cable and premium channels for free? I can't PPV unless I actually subscribe to the channel

On aTV If I watch nothing, I pay nothing...
If I watch nothing on the cable box, I pay $30/week.
Thats a lot of rentals.

I figure aTV would pay for itself in 2 months, even after paying $55 a month in 20mb DSL

heh heh

I caught that when he said it too. :)

Why would they put the navigation buttons on the side?!?! Just for this reason alone I don't want to update.
That and it is probably slower.

no dude, it was a mistake to include video on such a tiny device to being w/.
apple just corrected its mitake.
if u want to watch video, get a touch.
upsell?? seriously? the price diff is like $20

also, touch is not a camera hence the low resolution. it's a video camera competing w/ flip. do u see flip taking 5mp pic?

Wow... there is intelligent life out there! :D

I agree 1000%. The nano is almost worthless as a video player. You need at least the size of the iPhone/Touch to have useful video.

Also, if you want a great camera... go look at cameras, not your MP3/Multimedia/social networking/Movie/gaming device. Whew!!!!

You know we're all spoiled.... these products 5 years ago would have brought the house down.

I'm a victim of my own high expectation. :(

is it me or the line up today was so-so. I guess for those who doesn't already own one of the more recent ipods it could be a good time to update or grab one.

BUT, I really like the old shuffle and nano design. The new 'nano' felt a bit too small; and it looks like a step forward with touch screen, and a step backup without the camera.

I actually love the idea of the last gen nano with a camera, and was hoping Apple went forward from there and maybe put a better camera on it so it could take some really nice photos or take HD videos. I like the idea of a touchscreen nano, but if you have to make me choose between the 2, I'd go with improved camera. I also got bummed with Apple doing away with the widescreen aspect.

The touch ended up being so-so.
the good: A4 more RAM, better screen, Gyro sensors.
the kinda good: front and back cameras.
The bleah: sub megapixel front camera
The wish: 3G data service
The what happened to: 128GB version?

ios 4.x for Ipad in November??? Are you kidding??? I've waited forever for it! I need folders now!

Like everyone else said, i really don't understand the iPod nano's market anymore. I get that it has more storage than the shuffle but that's the only thing going for it.

Um… did you miss the fact that it has a touch-screen display? Feature-wise it's basically a return to iPod's roots — a simple, full-featured music player — but with a modern touch-screen interface. Think of it as the real entry-level iPod if you like. The only reason the Shuffle still exists is price. Apple have an iPod branded device for under $50. Not that hard to understand.

Now that the OS X version has no title bar, with the vertical traffic signs... how will they do it with the Windows version? Also put traffic signs? Put custom buttons at the right, in a vertical arrangement?

Gaging by Safari, Windows will probably get a full Windows7 customizable interface to give it the title bar of your choosing and it will support versions of Windows dating back to 2001 while they'll probably drop Tiger support soon for the OSX version. Isn't iTunes for Windows already available in a 64-bit version? In other words, Apple has a tendency lately to treat Windows customers better than Mac ones for some odd reason. It kinda reminds me of that bank commercial with the two kids where only the new kid gets ice cream. Come on over Windows people! See how nice we treat you? Once you're here, we'll suck you dry and never listen to a word you say!

Wow, Apple breaks their own interface guidelines with the vertical close/min/mac buttons. (and of course will disallow apps that break their guildelines).

It's odd isn't it. iTunes seems to be a place where Apple is happy to tinker around with (bastardise) standard OS X GUI elements. We're all used to it now but those scroll bars are another example that is still out of step with the rest of the OS.

I'd love to know what the reason is. Are they using iTunes as a platform to experiment and gauge user response?

Nano - Ruined it, touch devices suck for music and are more dangerous to operate in a car. You also can't reach into a jacket or pants pocket and control them with out pulling the device out and looking at it.

That's why they added a simple controller to the earphones — so you can stop reaching into your pants!

Apple should have kept to the original nano, got rid of the iPod Classic (because nano and classic were so much alike) and added the new nano as a different iPod. The new nano and the shuffle seem to similar. Also, the new nanos are waaay overpriced. On the other hand, they surprised us with the new Apple TV. In a short time it will be competing with Google TV. I hear Google TV is a built in Direct TV DVR.

I don't care how much you disagree with this, but the new iTunes icon is UGLY!

Yes, they are. If you remember, iTunes got the smooth metal look before the rest of the OS did. Apple also seems to experiment with interface elements in the iLife suite.

Speaking of iLife, where the hell is iLife 10 or 11?

I COMPLETELY agree with you about the iTunes icon. i'm keeping the old one and just replacing it lol

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (S60; SymbOS; Opera Mobi/499; U; en-US) Presto/2.4.18 Version/10.00)

new iTunes logo sucks! The Nano looks interesting.

Waiting for iLife 11.....:...

Yeah, I don't understand why it's going take that long to bring iOS 4 to the iPad. :(

That's the one thing that upset me today...

And if it's about so much more than music, why still call it iTunes? And why have the music note as the icon? Doesn't make sense to change the icon because it's about more than music and then just make it about music?!?!

Just ordered the new Apple TV. At $99 this is a good deal especially since I don't own one and also works with netflix. I just wish you could add an external hard drive to it but it appears you have to stream.
