Nothing special?

120Hz, HDR10+, and a peak brightness of 1,200 nits
4,500mAh battery
USB-C
50 Megapixel and 16 Megapixel Selfie Camera

All for 399 bucks. Yeah ... nothing special at all LOL my 1,299 EUR iPhone does not do any of it.

Real World: This looks great with some nice things no one has previously thought of
Macrumors: THIS SUCKS
Agree. Nothing wrong with acknowledging another company's product can actually be decent (even if you don't plan on using it). The die-hard apple defenders are in full force this morning.

Outdated tech you want? sounds like you want a 2009 phone
Bluetooth is unreliable. Phones barely fit into jean pockets and bulge out looking stupid in public (guess that's your jam, but you do you). MicroSD cards are objectively valuable (you think storage is outdated? I bet you praised Apple for bringing back the SD card slot on the new MacBook Pros). And replaceable batteries are a sensible OPTION to not cause so much electronic waste.

Congratulations, you drank some koolaid.

I don’t really want tech to be fun. I want to *use* tech to do/access fun stuff. The tech should be invisible.

👍 Agree.

To me it speaks of a deep insecurity from the Apple defenders if they feel compelled to defend, what, the richest Corporation on earth?… yet they feel the need to put down a start up's first entry (and a not too shabby one at that!) into the mobile phone field.

Ah well.

For myself, deeply entrenched in the Apple eco-system as I and my family am, this Phone 1 looks quite tasty.
Worth a spin I reckon.

“the device has a modest starting price of £399 ($475).”

May still be good at $475, but pounds ≠ dollars!

Indeed I was going off that other guys comment haha - Still anything under $500 for these specs is decent I think :D

Hope Apple can catch with them in the next 5 or even 10 years (on screen finger tip reader, mini hole punch for camera, much more customizable and usable Lock Screen, usb-c, 33watts fast charging vs 30W. 120Hz display in the entry level price, etc.).
Yeah, I know: IOS “just works”, “Apple ecosystem”, “Apple is more secure”, “Apple materials and design are a work of art and engineering”, but seriously, Apple does not innovate nor brings “standard” features to all IPhones models, or unless EU forces them. What a shame of values Apple has (“privacy first” is almost a rhetoric excuse by now )

I've always appreciated translucent casings. Still love the Nintendo Atomic Purple!

Looks better than any Samsung phone I've ever seen, but I really don't need bright lights on the back of my phone.

Bad hype all over the place for this phone - I get that it's pretty hard to stand out in a sea of Android clones, so going with a design statement to be different is one way to go, but it's so shallow and mindless that I don't understand why I would want to buy this.

The lighting effect on that back that gets thrown around like there's no tomorrow sounds the type of thing you'll be annoyed by once the novelty wears off and you realize that 1) blinking lights of any kind are annoying (more so when it' covers the entire back plate of the device) and 2) we cover phones up in protective cases, so even if you adore your lighting effects, you won't be seeing them much.

Huh, I read it as a witty response saying it was special. I liked it better that way.

It's a great phone (at least on paper) for a great price. Reminds me of Mark Cuban's Pharma company, shaking things up for a fraction of the price.

Ummm, I’m sure Apple’s Legal department may have some words with this company over the last picture in the article with the circle light and light at the 1 o’clock position... Kind of bears a resemblance to the Apple logo 🍎 no?

What would catch my attention in the Android world is...
- Vanilla Android Install
- Guaranteed five years of latest OS
- OS releases within one month of Google
- Online storefront selling OEM batteries, repair parts and tools
Xiaomi already have all these

Just see it as another xiaomi would explain everything….

Perhaps you should take a look xiaomi phone tho

I am an old Apple Macintosh hardware user, still rocking an iPhone X.

Finally; something refreshing, on the stagnated smartphone world. Looks really nice and have good specs, for the price. I find it a really good phone (designed in the UK and EU), for EU users. Three years warranty.

Ordered two (2 x 499€); one in black and one in white… expected delivery on 21 of July.

Aside from the LED gimmick, there's nothing special about this phone.

And it's somewhat overpriced for a Snapdragon 778 phone. Yes, overpriced, not modest. Galaxy A52s SD778 8/128 is around $300 in my country. And it will have 4 years of Android upgrades with monthly security patches.

Those LED gimmicks and questionable updates are not worth the premium price.
