OK this is AWESOME!!!!

Weird that there is 0 outbound traffic... That wouldn't even allow you to request a page. Wonder why it wouldn't register that.

EDIT: Ah, I misread... that is current traffic, not historical.

Well, nice work.

Damn! I can't believe I missed it. I would have def made this my first paid app! :)

HAI FIVE! Works fine here in the UK on O2, took about half an hour of fiddling to get working but it works very very well, only problem is that when the iPhone goes to sleep or home screen the app cannot run in the background, dropping the SOCKS connection.

Just use the examples they give in the walkthrough.

arn, you're a big shot now that you've made it on the NY Times. Can you please get to the bottom of this whole debacle? Surely you know "somebody" who can explain. This is ridiculous. Thanks.

This app better come back soon!! What in the world is going on with Apple anymore? As a customer, I shouldn't be this confused all the time with their services. As my mom would say, I think they are getting too big for their britches.

Step 1. Click "Instructions".

Step 2. Read Instructions.

Step 3. Follow Instructions?

Wish I would have jumped on board earlier .. guess I'll wait till it comes back up or get it off a torrent site.

If AT&T was smart, they would develop their own tethering application and sell it for $30 bucks on the appStore.

They would see immediate (but minor) up front revenue from the tens of thousands of folks that would purchase the app, and it would further tie and cement the relationship between AT&T and their customers.

Why they continue this dance on egg-shells approach baffles me.

I used to use my MacBook Pro tethered to my Blackberry with no problems and unlimited access. Granted it was a little difficult to get setup, but for gods sake AT&T has an opportunity to take the cake as a fantastic wireless provider.

WaTF are they waiting for?

no doubt, i've often wondered what is keeping them from opening this up. if blackberry can tether, you'd think they'd want the iphone to do so so they can further cut into RIM business sales. the last thing keeping my father in law from buying one is that he can't tether when he's away on business trips. this is f@*ked up, at&t.

That sucks. Although if this app comes back and is actually supported, it should be able to maintain a connection if the phone goes to standby... Other apps maintain a constant net connection even if the phone is in "standby." Take Pandora for example.

Damn I would have bought this in a heartbeat.

I know! I thought this might be pulled, but I never expected it to be pulled so quickly. I just went to look around the web for validation before downloading and poof, it was unavailable and I was yelling like a maniac. Is there any way that the ones that slipped out can be stripped of DRM and put onto a file share? Or what about that ad-hoc distribution thing where you give them your iPhone's unique code or whatever and they let you "test" the app...permanently!

You wouldn't be able to run it though. Since it is signed for a certain account, it wouldn't work and then you are back to having to jailbreak your phone.

Gone from iTunes desktop app, but trying to download it directly from App Store on my phone... seemed to work, but am now stuck at "loading" status and it just seems to be frozen... oh well worth a try... but better not get charged for this!

Not technically tethering

This isn't technically tethering, so it might avoid legal/contract issues.

Technically the app using the data is the proxy server on the iphone. The iphone is *not* routing a second device (ie your computer) onto the net. So, technically, it's just like any other iphone app that uses data.

Another example would be say, running a VNC server on the iphone and connecting to it from your computer and browsing the net with it. You're still browsing the net with an iphone app, you're just controlling it remotely. (And if this seems useless, consider running a compiled X11 version of firefox over ssh with X forwarding.) This shouldn't violate a contract either.

I'm making this post from my MacBook - using my iPhone as a link. Woo Hoo! Not going to replace the broadband, but the occasional emergency use is more than worth it for me.

I guess I won't be jailbreaking my iPhone any time soon. I planned to do it only to get this but I'd rather buy this app. Luckily I was able to buy it before it was pulled off, although I am currently on a Business trip with data roaming off so I can't even use it unless I want to pay lots of money to Telcel LOL. And for those of you worried what happens if you sync the iPhone, nothing happens. The app stay there. Apple can pull it off, but if you got, you got, and there is nothing that Apple or AT&T can do about it (technically they could, but it would get them into a lot of trouble). Just like when songs and videos get pulled from the iTunes store, if you had already bought something before it is removed from the store it will stay there.

no one has answered my questions, can i tether and use free wifi...at starbucks when it is free for iphone users. I don't want to use this as 3g tether, i want to use it as a wifi one. please let me know

heh. the more i think about this, it kinda reminds me about back in the day when i collected baseball cards, and "error cards" would slip out. Never thought of it in the "electronic" variety. ps someone pm me please if they find this "floating" around somewhere. i need it

Yes there is a way for this to happen anyone that was able to download the app before it was pulled simply needs to "share" the .ipa file... and then wait a few hours and like magic a DRM free version will appear.

*Jailbreaking required of course*

Maybe i am not as computer savy as some of you, but even reading the instructions, i am having a heck of a time trying to figure it out. If someone would be nice enough to maybe "dumb" this process down to me that would be incredible.

Wow, I can't believe I missed the opportunity to grab this..

I have a feeling it's not going to be back up for d/l, at least not without AT&T chimming in and doing something with pricing..

I'm now getting a message stating "Not available in the US store"..

Could this be intended for other countries?? and they posted it in the US store by "accident"..
