I thought I'd chime in with some additional Ingram information.

Just got off the phone with my friend, they are still receiving Apple laptops by the trailer full, skids of them. 3 kinds, airs, MBP and some kind of MB, according to him.

They are not being released yet, they are being sorted and prepared but as of today, 11AM EST, they have not received word to let them go to the stores.

No laptops are going out so in my opinion these are not the current iteration of Apple's laptops.

Not trying to stir the pot, just sharing the limited information I know.

If I hear that they're moving out I will post.

Take care.

thanks

Looks like they will be available the day after the announcement, glad to know that.

No specs, no pics. He'd likely jeopardize his job if he tried to take photos. He doesn't get close enough to handle the individual boxes. From what I gather they come in an outer box that contains the familiar Apple boxes, he's not involved in the breakdown, he doesn't work at Ingram, only goes there every day as part of his job. But he hears the buzz, sees the stuff and knows that I'm an Apple fan so he calls. Last week what I posted in another thread was that he heard them comment that they were waiting on an announcement to release them. They've been in receiving mode there for a couple of weeks.

And bless him, he's the most technologically avoiding person I've ever met, he does not own a computer so asking for details wouldn't work too well.

So hopefully soon.

Based on psiachris' information, it sounds like the new macs will be available either the same day the announcement is made or the next day at most retail stores. This is great news if it's true!

Hell, who's to say these babies won't be released today
I know, unlikely.

Thanks a lot for passing on the information! :)

If it is to be 10/14, they'd have to get them out of the warehouse towards the end of this week, Monday at the latest for the closest locations.

The method is the stuff is received, the warehouse builds skids for each location (store) containing the inventory they are to receive and those skids are sent out via UPS, FedEx, DHL, whatever they choose, I'm not sure, but via tractor trailer as the skids are big.

Security there is tight but people talk and you can't hide that stuff. They are quite full at this point.

Hopefully, Apple will innovate like Dell and build a better wireless solution - enclosing the antennae in metal has been shown to be an unfortunate design.

Note that the Dell Latitude below has a design line near the top of the screen, a little detail to break up the flat slab of the top. It's not just for style, though. That piece, which matches the rest of the lid, is actually a plastic window for the 3G/WiFi/BT antennae - so that it gets great reception in a metal 'book.

Come to think of it, isn't it about time for Apple to offer builtin 3G radios?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Apple innovated with the first production laptop with Antennae built into the display clamshell (iBook). And I seem to remember that the G4 Powerbooks actually had dual diverse 802.11x antennas behind plastic windows on the sides of the display. Why they got rid of this in the Intel Macbook is beyond me though!

Im not fully convinced, surely we would have seen leaks by now? surely? i dont think the 14th has anything to do with the new release although i do believe there is a new mac soon!

If you look at at the apple site, they have has a massive amount of deals giving free ipods if you buy a mac and things like this? selling off whats left? rang round a few places and they have non and not able to get any?

Who knows wouldn't like to say at this stage!
:apple:

For the past 5 years they have been sacrificing as much functionality as possible for little cosmetic "improvements". This goes from wifi to cooling to GPUs.

there will not be an invite all of you who are expecting one need to go over how apple release things

The MacBooks left china mid September so what chris is saying is plausible

1st post

Hey guys, ive been browsing through this forum for months now but only became a member recently.. and here's my first post
Does anyone know for sure what time the invites are sent?

I don't think there was any conjecture about today as a release date. People are hoping that an invite regarding next week will be sent out in about three hours, though, so keep your fingers crossed for that! :)

Have you got "Word of the Day" toilet paper or something? ;)
