NVIDIA Powered MacBooks on October 14th?

I have to buy a new computer before the 18th (I have to give a demo) and I've been holding up since I'm waiting for the new macs.

Does anyone know if it's going to be the 14th in store, or the 14th when they tell us that maybe it'll popup in stores in two weeks ?

Chances are, even if they're in stores on the 14th, they'll be in short supply, so it's cutting it awfully close. I feel sorry for you knowing that an update is right around the corner, but perhaps not having enough time to wait for it.

Then again you can always take it back within a week (or is it 2) and cite it's not what you were expecting, less restock fee, then buy the new one.

As for this rumour, I went to wikipedia and found that one of the features is connection of two display monitors. That got me thinking. I recalled a rumour posted here a week or so ago about the (new) MBP incorporating mini-DVI instead of the current DVI port. Two DVI ports even on a MBP might take up too much space, but two mini-DVI ports could make sense, at least for the Pro model; assuming the entire line gets this new chipset.

Discuss.

Doesn't make sense to stay with DVI when basically all other brands offer HDMI and even DisplayPort.

Assuming this new nVidia integrated solution will be used, the question is how will it perform?

Performance at least equal to a 8400M GS dedicated card would be needed to make it more or less worthwhile. If not it's way too close to the X4500 and Apple might as well go with Intel (at least for performance terms).

However, if this new integrated set performs just as good or better than the 8400M GS what happens to the use of the nVidia 9200M GS and 9300M G/GS dedicated cards? Since the difference between a 8400M GS and 9200/9300M GS isnt that big at all. Would this mean these cards have become obselete?

Much to wonder about...

I wouldn't mind a MacBook with 9300M GS. Perhaps in hybrid SLI with this new nVidia integrated GPU.

So they offer two HDMI ports because they can, and they're smaller than DVI anyway, so it's a good selling point.

Jobs's obsession with 'thin' means we have an anorexic MBA that's not 'small'. Seemingly, every time Apple look in a dictionary for 'small' or 'compact' - they get confused with 'thin'.

Fortunately Apple doesn't go the easy way of making laptops lighter by making them smaller. They're actually trying to make full-sized laptops lighter.
Converting it to your metaphor, they're one of the few who look in a dictionary for 'light' and don't get confused with 'small'.

If you don't want it, why don't you buy from some company that actually produces netbooks rather than blaming Apple for improving their notebooks? Apple doesn't produce netbooks and I can't understand why some people seem to think it's Air's fault. It isn't even aimed at the same market, it wouldn't jeopardize the sales of Apple's netbook if one ever came out. Apple simply doesn't do low-end products.

I have been waiting a long, long, long time as well.
And I got a bit sick of that, since I'm without a computer now.
I went to the apple shop yesterday here in Belgium.
They told me they would start selling the new macbooks on October 15th.
Hope it's true.

They told you that because you're going to buy one either way.

Apple Stores don't get info about new products until the day before they are released when their shipment gets in and the employees get trained on them.

What about the MacBook Pro? Will they be released on Oct14th as well?

I would imagine so, but for some reason MBs get more attention.. But if for some reason they don't update the pro line, I think I would be pissed! The gap between MB and MBP is already paper-thin for a huge thick wad of cash difference.

What about MBP'S ? Man it feels like i've been waiting forever for a new one. (Sleek, compact and powerful is all I'm asking for.)

I have a question . . Something was going on with my iphone and the Apple rep told me to reset all settings. Now my clock feature refuses to work. It starts to open and then goes black and back to the home screen. Also if I go into Settings then Mail, contacts, calendars and try to go to the bottom of that screen, the same thing happens. Anyone have any suggestions, they are much appreciated.

I say bring them on! Mac Books with REAL GPUs mean portable CS4 workstations for everyone!

They told you that because you're going to buy one either way.

I hear that the employees don't even get trained on them. They just get brown boxes the night before or the day off then they are put out on the tables. And many times it's a few days after the announcement before they get them in stock and on the tables.

Good Point

Sorry, do we think the MB and MBP are going to become one product line? Built around the same design but with increasingly better screen sizes and internals?

But, thinking about it, that would mean the same product has to span a price range of £700 - £1800 which won't happen.

So, new MBs and MBPs...

Based on rumors, it sounds like the MacBook and MacBook Pro will share similar looks, and both will have aluminum casings. They will probably have differences in screen size - 13" for the MB and 15" and 17" for the MBP.

However, I think because of the lower cost market of the MB (and there are rumors that the price will be dropped further), and the need to have best-in-class performance in the MBP, I think the NVidia chipset will be MBP only. (Especially if it's the top-of-the-line version, as this article suggests.)

Now, there could be a 13" MBP as a top-line, BTO option - which I would LOVE - but I think the MacBook will mostly be integrated Intel graphics so they can keep the cost down and help differentiate the product line.

...

I, personally, feel like crying. I just got my macbook in july, and even though I love it, the biggest weakness in my opinion is being unable to play anything other than slideshow (i'm talking about weak online games here) under emulation.

i'm in grade 11 now, and my mom expects this macbook to last me until I finish university... Guess it'll force me to game less, study more. Personally, I don't think they'll use anything better in the macbook than in the iMac, as it makes the iMac pointless. The stats are already similar, a graphics card would make iMac pointless. (Don't forget that a starter macbook is cheaper than the iMac.

Following NVidia's own nomenclature, and the way they differentiate their product ranges i would place this reference to MCP7A-U as an nForce 750i.

Its hard to say for sure what the intergrated GPU would be, but at a guess id say it was an 9300M-G or underclocked 9500M-G. And likely 8 stream processors rather than 16 to consume fewer power for mobile solution.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForc...FUNIQ2bad502715e762c3-nowiki-000000B4-QINU.7F

This is all assuming that its a 9000-series Geforce. Otherwise might refer a better version of the GForce 8000-series as per nForce 730a/730i.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NForce_700#nForce_730a

But as other posters have said - doesnt make much sense because performance of 8000 is comprable to the new intel GMA-4500 and therefore doesnt make sense unless there were either a cost benefit or a benefit for writing the display driver. (Apple is known to already write display drivers for the NVidia series).

FSB clock speed is questionable. Previously the expected intel would have been 1033Mhz, the new NForce7xxi series is poorly documented, briefly says "1333 MHz FSB". And unclear whether a mobile solution would be underclocked to 1033Mhz also like the intel, (but that would be a sensible choice to reduce power consumption).

Of course thats all purely speculation based on these recent articles. I would however hope to see some Anandtech article or review of the hardware when it comes out.

Going on past Macbook and iBook updates over many years, it might be unwise to allow oneself to get overly excited about the graphics upgrade (if for no other reason than to avoid extreme disappointment later on)

As always, Apple bean counters will decide what cost of chip goes in the Macbook and they will not be looking here for direction.

Nobody can tell... It would be based on rumors...

so does this mean, that these coming macbooks will be par with the SR MBPs/ earlier MBP's? Specs are always getting better so does this mean we they will be just as good handling CS3 ect...??
