I hear that the employees don't even get trained on them. They just get brown boxes the night before or the day off then they are put out on the tables.

At the MacBook Cube Air announcement at MacWorld, I asked two different show 'droids when they learned about the MBCA.

Both said that they first found out at the orientation meeting on the show floor an hour before the show opened.

I agree with some other posters here, I want them to release new macbook PROs this month too! Not just new macbooks...

Sorry, do we think the MB and MBP are going to become one product line? Built around the same design but with increasingly better screen sizes and internals?

Possibly, the current MacBook Pros are not that "Pro" over the MacBook. Apple needs to combine/unite their laptop line.

DisplayPort only...

So they offer two HDMI ports because they can, and they're smaller than DVI anyway, so it's a good selling point.

Since the new display will have DisplayPort, I'll put odds that the new laptops will have DisplayPort only. (The Nvidia chipset does DP.)

Not only does Jobs love to jump to new technology even if a bit prematurely, but the DP connector is nice and thin. (The "thin obsession" an important factor.)

Besides, that way Apple can sell you three extra price dongles (VGA/DVI/HDMI) with every laptop. Like the airlines which used to allow reasonable baggage allowances, now Apple is nickel-and-dimeing with dongles, adaptors and other things which used to be in the box.

I actually think Apple will update the MacBook before the MacBook Pro.

That would be absurd.

I think they'll probably merge the product lines, which doesn't bother me so long as there's a model that actually packs enough punch for what I need...

Which is ofc, Crysis and StarCraft 2, buahaha :p

ATi and nVidia have been pushing some rather impressive IGPU solutions lately. They're putting Intel to shame. Hopefully Apple will go with a more powerful and feature robust solution then the GMA X4500.

The key why Apple is putting an Nvidia video card in the MacBook: Snow Leopard.
MacRumours World is definitely filled with riddles. ;)

ok well what about snow leopard?
doesn't work with intel integrated chipset?

On this subject when do you think apple will announce an event for the macbook on the 14/10/08. Looking back at historical discussions on macrumours apple announced its event for the 9th september exactly one week before it was due to take place. Will the event be as big as the ipod event, will it be more low key, when will the media get invites etc. I think we will see an announcement this Tuesday after all we are only 8 days away and nothing has been announced by apple yet???

Discuss.

I can't wait to see the flood of new MacRumors posters... haha

I jumped on the last MacBook update. Hooray thread spam!

But I'm eagerly anticipating the pictures of the next update! I hope the rumors are true.

Tell me more.

"OpenCL
Another powerful Snow Leopard technology, OpenCL (Open Computing Language), makes it possible for developers to efficiently tap the vast gigaflops of computing power currently locked up in the graphics processing unit (GPU). With GPUs approaching processing speeds of a trillion operations per second, they’re capable of considerably more than just drawing pictures. OpenCL takes that power and redirects it for general-purpose computing.

What is needed is a smaller and lighter (400 - 500 g) subnotebook. With true Firewire and Ethernet ports. Even the MacBook Air is too large and heavy for us (besides lacking the essential Firewire connectivity).

Who is "us?" Because I assure you, the MBA is neither too large nor heavy for most people... And FW being "essential?" Except for a few people with FW DV cameras, I don't think so.

oooh, usually the Mini follows the MacBooks....

No...
Mac mini
1G - 2/06
2G - 9/06
3G - 8/07

MacBook
1G - 5/06
2G - 11/06
3G - 5/07
4G - 11/07
5G - 2/08

Nor does the mini follow the macbook in terms of specs:
Mac mini
1G - 1.5 core solo/1.66 core duo
2G - 1.66 core duo/1.83 core duo
3G - 1.83 core 2 duo/2.0 core 2 duo (GMA950)

MacBook
1G - 1.83 core duo/2.0 core duo
2G - 1.83/2.0 core 2 duo
3G - 2.0/2.16 c2d (GMA950)
4G - 2.0/2.2 c2d (x3100)
5G - 2.1/2.4 c2d (x3100)

So what I'm saying here is, macbook releases are pretty much as unrelated to mac mini releases as mac pro releases are to ipod nano releases.

When Apple launches (presents) stuff of this magnitude*, how many days in advance do they typically announce that something will happen?

I'm sooooo ready to splash out.

* Laptops (or iMac, or MacPros) sporting a major redesign.

Last time I checked, 5 minutes prior, Nvidia is not a standing member of the Unified Extensible Firmware Group.

http://www.uefi.org

Last time I checked Nvidia's chipsets don't work with UEFI nor will it work with Nehalem.

Read that article: The business politics trump everything.

Apple will not jeopardize their preferred status with Intel and Intel won't jeopardize it's precarious stylish status having Apple on-board.

Apple will release their own chipsets that comply with Intel and leverage Apple specific solutions making their hardware differentiation obvious from general PC laptops, desktops and workstations.

Is everyone ignoring this post? If this is true, how could Apple ever use nVidia's chipsets?

MacRumours World is definitely filled with riddles. ;)

I think that you're right. It would also lend credence to the idea of a new form factor (and somewhat to the new manufacturing process as well). It would also kind of be nice to have a single laptop line that is customizable like the Mac Pro. I can dream...
