"OpenCL
Another powerful Snow Leopard technology, OpenCL (Open Computing Language), makes it possible for developers to efficiently tap the vast gigaflops of computing power currently locked up in the graphics processing unit (GPU). With GPUs approaching processing speeds of a trillion operations per second, they’re capable of considerably more than just drawing pictures. OpenCL takes that power and redirects it for general-purpose computing.

You missed out on the last conversation about this. What prevents the GMA X 3100 or X4500 from taking advantage of this?

When Apple launches (presents) stuff of this magnitude*, how many days before do they typically announce that something will happen?

I'm sooooo ready to splash out.

* Laptops (or iMac, or MacPros) sporting a major redesign.

few - "a small but indefinite number" ?

And FW being "essential?" Except for a few people with FW DV cameras, I don't think so.
...
So what I'm saying here is, macbook releases are pretty much as unrelated to mac mini releases as mac pro releases are to ipod nano releases.

Wow...Really? Seriously? "A few people with FW DV cameras?"

And what I'm saying here is that your initial statement about the "few people with FW DV cameras" strikes me as grossly inaccurate.

So just how powerful will the Macbook video chip be do ya'll think? Think it could handle older games (including Source games) no problem? or is that too hopefull ?

You can add anyone with a decent sized external drive to those "few people with FW DV cameras". Daisychain = useful. FW 800/400 = fast. Both useful when you've got a few Terabytes hanging off your computer.

I really hope this news is true and they give the regular mac books more power because there is no way I'm buying a new laptop in that price range if it gets outperformed in the video card department by my 9 month old dell xps1330.

I know a lot of people think they don’t need better video cards but I’m certainly not one of them, at least apple should give better customization options and let people choose.

I couldn't agree more! Because I must say i do regret buying my first gen. MacBook..although I love it to death the graphics are pathetic.:(

integrated? dedicated?

What's the difference between "integrated" and "dedicated"?

Also, what's a logic board and what's DDR3?

(only answer if you're bored, like me):)

eSATA is the future for external disks

Much better off with eSATA (another thin connector) for external storage.

3 Gbps today and lower overhead - what's not to like? ;)

"integrated" - graphics processing unit (GPU) is part of the Northbridge (memory/system controller) in the support chipset.

"dedicated" - GPU is a separate GPU-only chip that is soldered to the motherboard.

"logic board" - same as motherboard, the main circuit board

"DDR3" - the latest in mainstream memory technology

MB or MBP

So does this mean the MB and MBP will have the same card?

Surely if they give the MB the same card there isnt any point in getting a MBP?

Will the MBP be updated on the 14th or just the MB?

Is it the dedicated or the integrated Nvidia that comes in banana flavour?

I swear, if the MacBook doesn't come in banana flavour this year, I'm going to go bananas.

I really hope that it is a decent dedicated GPU, with similar power to the current 8600M in the MBP's. Then I'd sell my MBP and get a new MB.

So was September 9th.

And September 16th.

And September 23rd.

And September 30th.

But not October 7th? Why is that? Why is NEXT Tuesday NOT plausible?!

Well, october 14th is since the beginning of september or so. The other dates are just rumors made by people here on the Mac Rumors forum. October 14th is a MAJOR rumor I'd say.
