So a friend of mine in UK ordered one online for me from the O² site. He said he had to give his bank details and complete a direct debit form.

Does this mean they will try to take a monthly fee from his accounf or is that only if it gets activated with a subscription via iTunes?

My brother went to get me 2 from CPW and he was told he could only have 1. They checked his card to see if it had been used before to purchase a phone. I wanted 2 so he went into an O2 shop and got me the 2nd one using a different card.

Isn't that illegal. I thought the only information companies can utilise/retain from credit cards are those relating to processing.

His account. If you buy on-line they sign you up there and then.

So you're saying he now has a contract with O²?

I thought you had to activate via iTunes to make the contract active?

When your friend was doing the online O2 checkout did it include a monthly charge in the "Shopping basket"? He would have seen that he had signed up for a tariff.
If yes, then he/you now have an account with O2.

If there was no monthly charge specified and it was processed as a one-off purchase, then you are OK. ;)

Just go to the O2 site and add an iPhone to your "Shopping basket"… buying an iPhone does not commit you to a monthly tariff.

I've asked him to check his receipt - I can't do that from here, only allowed in UK

I guess there's a cooling-off period where the phone can be returned...

damn, i knew it. My predictions have become right. I said "am i too negative or don't you think that they sell out until my friend goes there. There's still 8 days for my friend to buy one but people say that a lot of stores have sold out. :(:(:( Do you think it may be different in London? My friend is going for business, i begged him for the iPhone, he said : "OK, but i'll have only 30 minutes or so" so he can only go to a one shop. Damn i am screwed. :(

o2 Stock

My iPhone has just arrived today. Got it from O2 website with (hopefully!) Quidco cashback. The thing which really surprised me is that it seems to be a week 45 phone. If that is the case, does that not mean that O2 are still selling through their initial delivery? No wonder they're marking the price down!!

Well the price drop certainly worked on me. With selling my iPod and phone it's only costing me £60 for the phone which I can then swap out for a 3G version at some point in the future. I'm assuming I can just port my contract over to a new phone as they aren't subsidised. How do you go about activating the old version were one to give it to a friend?

does o2 sell out yet? do not sell out until i got one on 26th, i am scared that they sell out. Can anybody give me info?

Reading this thread left me with one crucial question: as non-English/GB citizen, can I visit an O2 shop and buy a discounted iPhone (eventually paying cash) WITHOUT signing an O2 contract (as I will use the phone only outside GB) or is this possible only at an Apple store? Thx for your support...

You can buy one without signing a contract, but you won't be able to buy it with cash. When I bought mine from an O2 shop just before Christmas I had to pay with a card, they wouldn't accept cash.

They don't accept no matter what happens? Come on, i was going to buy :(:( Are you sure? And some English fellows can check whether they sold out yet or not? Because i am too excited and i hope they do accept cash.

But if you pay with a card, you will get the discount? Or will you get the money back after you activate the product in iTunes?

I'm asking because i can get my colleague to buy one in the UK, but i need this information :)

I bought an iPhone from CPW. They asked for my name and address. Required payment by card.

I think that they just want to minimise the number of people who are buying iPhones and not activating.

So cant i walk into an o2 store when i go as a tourist on 26th of April and buy 2 iphones with cash and walk out? If so what are my options to buy one?
