does it mean that my friend who is not living in the UK can't go and buy 2 iphones(for me and himself) and can't we unlock them and use them here? (Turkey)?

He is going to London for a business trip and i'm afraid that he can't find an o2 store. Since he's not living there he can't locate a store. And i think that o2 will run out of stocks until he goes there (end of April). Can somebody answer? Can he just walk into to the store, tells that he'll make his contract on itunes and unlock it? Please i am desperate. I've never wanted something like this, i really want an iphone. Help please.. :(:(

Dude, you don't sign anything in store. Just purchase the iPhone. All contract stuff is done via iTunes. So yes, you can buy the iPhone without signing anything then unlock/jailbreak it for use in Turkey.

Includes free standard delivery.
Only with a new minimum term 18 month Pay Monthly
O2 tariff for iPhone.
That's no different from their previous offer. All iPhones sold by O2 require an 18 month contract. How are they going to enforce that? In theory you buy the phone for 169 walk out the shop and you activate your phone via jailbreak. They can't subsequently force you to sign anything.

Thank you very very much man. I really appreciate it. But how about 2 iphones? Is it gonna be a problem? And i don't know if he can find an o2 store in London. Are O2 stores very common in UK? I mean if he asks somebody in the street would they know? My hands are shaking right now, i can't believe i'll get an iphone for only 170GBP . I hope they don't run out of stocks until he gets there, i'm thinking that they have a very limited stock, like a thousand or two and they're doing this discount for that. Nobody will find them in stores i guess. I hope my friend does though :) I hope they have very very much stocks, i don't want to lose this chance. If i do i will be extremely upset.

Most city centres in the UK have at least one O2 shop. Your friend would have to be blind not to find one in London. Tell him to take a walk down Oxford Street. If he can't buy 2 at the same time (I don't see why not), then he'll be able to find another O2 shop a few metres away to buy the 2nd handset.

O2 Stores are everywhere in the UK especially London. You friend will have no trouble finding one. You can always go to a Carphone Warehouse Store too which are also selling this offer. You'll have no problem buying more than one iPhone.

so we can go in an o2 store, buy up to 5 iphone without signing any contract?
can I pay cash?
I'm from Italty but i'm gonna do a one-day trip in London to buy 3 or 4 iphones:D

Yes, you can without signing a thing. Contract stuff is done via iTunes. If O2 staff get funny about you buying lots of iPhones, just go to a different O2 Store.

thank you very very much. Via Google Maps i've found one o2 store near bond street :) Any body have any ideas about stocks? I hope it does not end until the end of April.

This Is The Deal...

I just walked into an O2 store, purchased 2 iPhones for £169 and walked out.

I can now unlock both if I like or take an expensive contract out with a mobile provider named O2 who have no idea about customer service.

I know what I'm gonna do...

BTW...

You're wrong mate. As a poster said previously - YOU CAN BUY for £169, go home and unlock. NO PROBS! I've just done it!

lucky you. I'm really scared that they'll run out of stocks until 28th of April. I am really really scared. I hope you British don't buy them :), you wait for the 3G because you have 3G support in your country. I don't :D so i really really hope that i'll buy one for 169. This makes me feel so bad, i have the money ready, i can hold it in my hands but i have to wait! Damn this is risky. :(

be warned, they will most certainly make you pay by card.

Yep, debit or credit card is requested by o2 and Carphone Warehouse.

RE: unlocking, are people having joy with mobile browsing and what sort of costs are you paying on PAYG contracts?

I've just tried to order a couple online from Australia and have them sent to my brother in the UK.

Can't order them as I have to sign up for a contract. I have to sign up on direct debit.

Anyone know a way round this. Only other option would be for him to go into a store and buy them himself.

Got a friend coming over next month so no problem with delivery.

Try again...

They will tell you you have to sign up for a contract. That is fine. But you can only do that when you get the iPhone home and connect it up to iTunes. You sign the DD mandate in iTunes. Try again and speak to someone else who will hopefully know how it's done. Don't mention anything about unlocking to them on the phone. Don't mention that you are a resident of Oz.

If there is no joy on the phone - get your friend to go.

I was trying to order from Carphone Warehouse website as O2 won't let me because my IP address is an Oz one. I cant get any further because they are asking for bank details for direct debit.

Looks like my only option is for my brother to buy them and send them with my friend.
Just wanted to get them ordered straight away as knowing my luck they will sell out before my brother gets chance to pop into his local store.

Are you surprised that us Americans aren't bitching incessantly like how it happens when the reverse is the case?
Not really, because this is the first time it's happened, and will probably be the last.

:p

Well, what you "knew" is a load of rubbish; O2 offer the best 3G coverage and the best (by miles) indoor 3G coverage.

May be 'the best' (however you define it), but it's very much the worst in terms of speed.

Panic over. My brother just popped into his local CPW and got one. I did want 2 but they would only allow one per customer and they were doing a cheque to see if the card had been used to buy any before.

He's going to go into another store with a different card to get me another.

They gave him the contract details but didn't try to sell it to him.

Can't wait to get it now and start using it.
