What happened to one more thing?

I choose to see this "one" more thing as the entire event :D

As in "One more thing, there is going to be another event to showcase exciting new Apple products"

Obviously, going off my theory Jobs has already delivered on the promise on the invite, all that's left now is to reveal what is in store for release on Wednesday :D :D

Me thinks Apple is really kicking up the spin to Thinksecret..
I'd be willing to bet Appleinsider comes up with a revision to it's prediction too.

Only a few more days to do it, should they do a revision...

...or perhaps they will "revise" their position like last time, when they predicted new hardware at Apple Expo... :p

I'm thinking ThinkSecret has lost a lot of their sources and are just playing it by ear for the most part. We have a legitimate source right here in the forums by the name of podfuture who has already provided details of the video iPod. The BBC accidentally let it slip today that a video iPod would be announced on the 12th. We have the "one more thing..." invite that is clearly a followup to the previous event. Finally, come on, Apple is not going to stage an event for the press to announce speed bumps, at least not as the main focus.

Very rarely does Apple release a whole slew of updates at press events like this. Expect ONE new product, MOST likely a video iPod.

Just ask some of the MR members who have been through waiting for the TiBooks to be updated and the G5's to come out...there's always these ambitious posts about this and that coming out when apple had a press event, but it is ALWAYS one slick product, and then an announcement weeks or months later about a product line update.

Apple wants a big christmas, and a vPod will do it.

Done

My prediction:

1 - New PowerBooks announced with a press release this Friday.

2 - New PowerMacs announced with a press release on Tuesday and dicussed on conference call later that day and mentioned again in review at the event on Wednesday.

3 - New video iPod and video strategy unveiled at the event on Wednesday.

i posted a prediction earlier in another thread, but since reading some other threads, ive made new predictions.

my prediction:

-New Powerbooks with dual core in top model and a new case design
-New Powermacs with dual core in top model and a new case design
-and based on blurb by BBC a new Video iPod seems likely

all in the same day at the Event Oct. 12.

Would they really design new cases for only 12 months or so (Before Intel) ?

I think that's how Steve introduced the iMac G5 (as raised out of the floor). It's just kind of 'his thing.'

Steve did not introduce iMac G5, it was Phil Schiller

Why would they waste time doing that when it will become Intel in 2006?

PowerMac wont move to Intel in a long time. It's propably the last machine to do so (apart from Xserve).

Going along with this (at least I think so).... Remember what was the big announcement at the world Apple Expo in Paris.... a mere software/service update to .mac.

If .mac was the featured product of a world expo, then any small update of a hardware line definitely deserves a media event.
But .Mac was not the featured product of the Apple Expo in Paris, and it was announced through a press release and maybe a verbal mention by someone. But Jobs did not get onstage and announce it with any sort of fanfare.

This time around Jobs is indeed going to get up on stage and announce something with some sort of fanfare. Let's hope it is deserving of all the attention.

That's true and we only thought it was going to be a big deal because it was the only thing covered in black. In reality, anything new is covered in black and it happened to be the only new thing there.

I haven't had the time to read all the posts in this thread so if the following has already been discussed, please accept my apologies. :)

Think Secret have contradicted themselves several time in the last few weeks: First they said we would only see one Mac-related upgrade (new PMs) in the remaining weeks and months of 2005 while new PBs wouldn't be announced until at least MWSF. Then came the new Mac minis (which may not count though because Apple doesn't consider this an update). Yesterday TS said no iPods on Oct 12, only PBs and PMs. Now, less than 24 hours after the initial report, they suddenly say we will see a new iPod without video capabilities.

If you ask me, TS have lost theirs sources and are fighting for their life.

The timing of this release is perfect for Christmas and for companies with cashed up in the new financial year. I hope Apple are releasing smaller things for the Christmas consumer market - Might Mouse BT, new HD iSight, new LCD HD screens (including a new 17"), new trimmer iPods (and upgrades for 4th gen owners), Airport Express Movie... etc

6 days to go...

A smaller chance, however, is that these will be video enabled iPods... not true focus devices like some are saying... but just have the ability to play back little snippets you can get on the iTunes music store until they have their online VIDEO stuff sorted out.

Yes this is what I've been expecting too. I think there was the option to do it with current colour ipods but someone decided the screens were too small to make it fly.

So. Maybe the new iPod will have a bigger screen, smaller click wheel, new form and be video enabled. This would be near to what podfuture has predicted.

Yeah but the Paris Expo wasn't called specifically to announce a new product.

The event next week has been arranged to drag the media into one building announce something. I can't see how an iPod photo with a bigger hard drive or speed/spec bumped Powerbooks and Power Macs would warrant this.

Unless, Apple think that announcing all of these at one event can create enough noise to boost sales. Still seems a bit unlikely though to me.

Wow. People are really tearing apart Think Secret here.

First of all, they reaffirmed their previous post about powermacs and powerbooks by giving more details into exactly what those updates might entail. Second, they have provided more input on the ipod and how video might work into the equation.

Maybe I am too much of a Think Secret fan, but I would be willing to bet that they will be close to or on the button about these updates.

Although sometimes they do switch their responses, you have to admit that they have been the most accurate site in the past few years, hands down.

Forget about it, Powerbooks with a dual core what exactly? Definitely not a G5 and definitely not the Freescale dual core chip, IIRC that wasn't supposed to be sampling until the 2nd half of the year. The Powerbook will get a slightly faster/cooler 7448 which is the pin-compatible e600 single core drop in replacement for the current chip. FSB may increase slightly to 200MHz, not the 533MHz of the MPC8641.

ThinkSecret is suggesting a display update which would be useful but would have to fit inside the existing enclosure; a new enclosure for an end of life product is unlikely.

Possible a worthwhile update, could be tempted, I am after all somewhat sentimental about the PowerPC processor and this is likely to be the final PowerPC update ever for the PowerBook. Plus my TiBook is getting long in the tooth. Plus I'm none too fond of Intel. Plus I'm not sure I really want the first rev Mactel PB. My goodness, I'll almost getting excited about it, I must be desperate. :)

If Apple introduce HD screens on the 15" and 17" models, I would say that they would have to have at least a G5 processor in there to cope with HD footage. Unless they can give the GPU a significant speed bump and make use of H.264 to eleviate the processor consumption.

I'm probably talkin sh** right now, just woke with a massive hangover, but it is something to consider. I think?

What I am more intrigued about is the idea of the Power Mac getting a new enclosure. How sick would that be?

Good point, I think Mac users and I among them get things out of perspective and get overly excited about minor changes. It has to be something bigger and all pulled together by film, integrating iMovie and movie buying with iTunes, HD Powerbooks, Airport streaming, etc. Apple have to make the wider world aware of what they are missing out on if they just buy an ipod and not a Mac, and they have to find the most appealing way to do this - i.e. through making the ipod a part of the iLife experience as well as the music listening one - garage band on your ipod, movies and iMovie on your ipod, etc. When PC users then realize that they can only do half the things with their ipod that Mac users can then they'll switch.
