I got an email at 3.23pm today telling me my UTD disk has shipped and I should get it delivered on the 29th Oct(Monday)
That's weird. Even though I received an email at 2:10pm it doesn't have a delivery date on it. Literally it says "We expect your order to be delivered to your shipping address on or before .". Monday is more likely I suppose.

I'd like to take this opportunity to wonder... why don't they give the option to pick up UTD discs at the retail stores? Ideally, you'd go online to confirm that your mac is eligible, and then receive some sort of confirmation number which the stores could then verify. The $10 we spend on shipping could go to offset the cost of the retail packaging. Apple wouldn't have to press separate UTD discs/packaging. Everyone would get it at the same time. Peace and happiness would fall over the land. World hunger being eradicated wouldn't be far behind.

Sounds like a good idea,

But that would be just way to easy for Apple to try to accomidate for their NEW customers.

They only had limited UTD discs released as opposed to large quantity if retail version discs, as the production is still ramping up, their priority was retail discs first, so it delivers them to all apple stores. You can't have a Grand Opening at 6 pm and no discs for sale, that would be an embarrassment for apple inc. That is why UTD discs are low priority for apple.

Wow, you seem to have a lot of knowledge how Apple works. Do you happen to work for Apple?

Have a friend who own apple reseller store, and another one who is an apple certified technician who deals with apple on a daily basis.

Those are not exactly good sources... They are pretty low down on the totem pole.

Why would a reseller know about UTD? They don't distribute them.

Now showing a delivery date of 29th, with status as "In transit to customer". Looks like I get a full weekend without temptation then.

You in the USA? Mine is still saying "Not Yet Shipped". Actually, just for laughs I ordered 2 more UTD disks today (for the 2 other Mac Pros we got at work other than my own). What fun! :D

They're saying they'll ship between Monday and Wednesday BTW.

Canceled my Order

Apple dropped the ball on this and I do not like being treated like a second class citizen when I just paid over two grand for a machine. This is completely unacceptable and I have cancelled my order as well as written a response on this issue to sjobs@apple.com or whoever the bot behind that account may be. I am a loyal apple supporter but this was a very big screw up

And no one else bought a $2,000 machine before you? Agh, you must be super special or something, to be able to spend $2,000 of your own money on a computer that no one else did.

As of almost noon on 10/26/07, I still have Not yet shipped. Not prepared or anything -- US.

My credit card has not been charged, although it looks like they pre-authorized because my credit limit is about $11 below what it should be. Takes about a day or two for it to show up on American Express, so this doesn't really mean much, even though I ordered on the 19th.

Lame.

Why? Apple said "Ships by 26th". If it doesn't ship by the end of today, that's lame. Otherwise, there's still time.

ah ok i'm in chicago, illinois so i have a ways to go today perhaps
Give it a few hours. My order changed to shipped at 2pm and in transit at 5pm. They're shipping it by courier (TNT) rather than the standard postal service here, so it should actually get here by the quoted date.

LOL. I'm so bookmarking that for future use :D

mine says Delivery Exception, Future delivery requested. what the crap does that mean? i never saw the fed-ex guy today. i've been sitting here waiting for them to come, and it says future delivery requested, now saying i will get it on monday???

As of 12:40 P.M. EST, my Leopard UTD disc has not been shipped, just like most of y'all out here.....but as per the update, it WILL ship out today and i should receive it sometime next week.

Hm, interesting. Immediately after ordering the UTD discs (on the 18th), my credit card showed a deduction from my available credit (i.e. nothing posted, but the money was deducted from the amount available). I just checked the card this morning, and it shows the full amount available (i dont use this card hardly)....HMMM....

Did Apple find out that I actually bought my MBP TWO days before Oct 1? :p

My status is still "Not Yet Shipped."

Mine is still Not Yet Shipped as well and I fear for maybe the same reason. :p I went to see if mine qualified and put in my real purchase date but it said to correct the date and I did, and it said my mbp qualified for the UTD disk. So I ordered. But i've always wondered if it would actually go through, they haven't charged me yet and my apple store is only a couple miles from my office.. so tempting to just buy it today considering...

As of this morning it was still "Not Yet Shipped" but around 10AM PST it changed to "Shipped on: Oct 25, 2007 via US POSTAL SERVICE" for delivery by Monday.

UTD install on MBP from May

I'm in Canada and my UTD copy has yet to ship (ordered on Oct 18th). In the meantime I'm wondering if anyone knows if UTD will install on a MBP made before Oct 1. Is there a difference between the retail and UTD copies, and if so what would prevent the install?

I don't have a Leopard UTD disk, so I'll give my experience from the Tiger UTD disk. Note Leopard may be different, but for the Tiger UTD these are the answers:

Yes there is a difference, the UTD disk requires the presence of Mac OS X on the drive and cannot do an "Erase and Install".

The UTD disk can be used to update the OS on any Mac, it is not locked to a particular machine type (well obviously the Tiger UTD disk only worked on PPC machines!).

We'll see next week if Apple has made any changes since the Tiger UTD disk.
