Just got off the phone with an apple rep and they said all UTD orders are being SHIPPED on the 26th and not DELIVERED. They are being shipped regular USPS as well. He said we shouldn't count on Leopard until the following week.

Yeah, this is what happened with the Tiger UTD disks.

Ah well. So we miss out on the first weekend, but still get it for less than 10% of what everyone else is paying. I'm okay with that.

Besides, there's still Gutsy to play with :)

Wow. You might be only the person in this thread that got an informed Apple Store Rep.

Yup. If they ship it Friday, we are all probably looking at a Wednesday delivery date depending upon location.

Thanks for the update!
I too however am ok with waiting until next week to get it since it barely cost anything! I have TWO new mac's purchased this month that qualify for utd, so I consider myself lucky either way !!! (one was purchased on Oct.1st - delivered Oct.5th, so since it was the PURCHASE date....I barely made it with that one!! :)
So like I said, I am happy and feel lucky either way!

Wow....so four apple customer service reps later:

I've gotten the same answer four different times I've called. The Up-To-Date discs are a FULL RETAIL COPY (I know, I know...I'll believe that when I see it, too :p ) and we should have them in our hands on the 26th.

I don't think anyone there knows anything more than we do haha. But I think we have just as many "Ships on the 26th" answers as we do "Delivers on the 26th"

So who knows. Guess we'll find out on Friday. Or next week. Or....

If they ship on Friday here in the UK we should receive on Monday, providing of course they don't come all the way from China

I AM SOO FREAKIN PISSED... B/C I GOT MINE FROM THE UP-TO -DATE program and i just called apple and this rude guy said i'll get next week. he said no shippments has been made out to anyone... THIS IS UNFAIR... just cuz i used the up to date i have to suffer and wait another WEEK. I AM SOO PISSED @ :apple: SHAME ON YOU!

I'd believe the UTD with a Deleivered by status if someone could paste one.

I have both types of orders (full pre-order and a UTD), and here's what they say:

MAC OS X 10.5 RETAIL-INT
Ships by: DELIVERS ON OCTOBER 26TH

MAC OS X 10.5 UTD FULFILLMENT-INT
Ships by: OCTOBER 26TH

If I were Apple, this is exactly as I would do it. It doesn't make sense from a cost perspective to be sending out $9.95 UTD's by overnight priority shipping.

Hi, my name is XXXXX Welcome to Apple!
Apple Store Rep: Good afternoon
You: Hi XXXXX.
Apple Store Rep: How may I help you today?
You: I qualified for the Leopard Up-to-Date program, and I'm wondering if (like the Tiger Up-to-Date disc), you won't be able to install Leopard on an erased hard drive using the disc?
You: The Tiger Up-to-Date disc required I have Panther installed first before it would let me install Tiger.
Apple Store Rep: Correct.
You: So when I get my Leopard Up-to-Date disc, I will need Tiger installed first?
Apple Store Rep: Correct.
You: And are those discs shipping via FedEx or United States Postal Service?
You: The Up-to-Date discs.
Apple Store Rep: Not sure of the shipping method.
You: OK. Do you know when they will ship out?
Apple Store Rep: They ship out the 26th.
You: Thank you so much. You have a great day.
Apple Store Rep: You're welcome.
Apple Store Rep: Thank you for visiting the Apple Store. *We appreciate your business.
Thank you for contacting the Apple Store. If you require further assistance, please call 1-800-MY-APPLE.

Ummm. You can still purchase the $129 version and receive it on Friday. You have until midnight. :D

HA.. THIS MAKES ME WANNA JUST BURN A COPY from my friends.. and forget buying iit from apple. Once again apple pissed more of it's customers.. cuz of this.

Now, now. This is how the Up-to-Date programs have always worked. Apple didn't have to let us buy Leopard for $9.95.

I don't mind not getting it till next week. After all I am only paying £5.95 for it

But y can't they treat everyone the same... and keep everyone happy ? just cuz we are paying 9.95 we have to suffer another week cuz of it?

Update: She doesn't seem to know a lot bout anything.. =\

But y can't they treat everyone the same... and keep everyone happy ? just cuz we are paying 9.95 we have to suffer another week cuz of it?

I would imagine it has more to do with the high shipping costs of FedEx Priority Overnight, and the fact they want to send out upgrade discs instead of retail discs. For $9.95, I wouldn't guarantee launch date delivery to my customers either.

For $9.95, what do you expect? The costs of shipping overnight, plus handling by Apple and media costs, etc would exceed $9.95 if they were shipping this priority overnight.

Like it or not, Apple is still a business, and deserves the right to keep costs down whenever possible. Truthfully, you would not suffer irrepairable harm if you get it by October 30th.

I'd Choose OVERNIGHT. but there was no option.. NOTHING. ugh. USPS priority is 9.95.. guess we have no other choice...just gonna use my friends copy this weekend NO BIGGIE ;)

If you want to do that go ahead. You'll own a Leopard license at that point.

But please, give my eyes a rest and quit with the CAPITALS and abbrvtns. You're not happy, we get that already.

Here is my chat with an Apple Expert:

"You are chatting with XXXXX, an Apple Expert

Hi, my name is XXXXX. Welcome to Apple!

Hello XXXXXX

Hi how can I assist you?

I have a question about the Leopard Up To Date Program

I am happy to assist

Okay thanks...I qualified for the Up To Date Program. My question is about the actual disc I will be recieving. When Tiger came out, the UTD discs required that I have Panther installed before they would install Tiger.
Are the UTD discs for Leopard going to require that I have Tiger installed on my Mac?

If you are using the Up To Date program, yes

Okay, so just to clarify....the disc I paid $9.95 for is NOT a full retail copy (e.g. it won't do a clean install of Leopard on an unformatted hard drive?)

No, it will install Leopard on the machine that has tiger on it. the one that qualified for the UTD pricing"

He couldn't answer the shipping question, but he referred me to an Apple Customer Support Rep on the phone who seemed to know what the heck she was talking about. She told me that my UTD order will be delivered on October 26th. I asked her the question three times again, just to make sure...I even used the prices to make sure there was no confusion whatsoever. But she said that my order would be delivered on October 26th.

So yet another answer....this is kind of fun. I think I'm going to turn this into a game with my friends and chart the answers :p

I hope Apple decides to ship the Up-to-date CDs for the 26th.

I'd hate to have to wait a whole week.
