I ordered the Media Edition in December and every time I check the order status it seems to add 30 days to the current date for the shipping date. When I checked today (2/24) it shows a shipping date of 3/24. That is better than it was in January when it reported a 60 day delay.

The $100 rebate came very quickly. I bought Office 2004 on the black Friday special for $125 and got the $100 rebate. I guess getting 2008 for under $30 it is worth the wait.

I just checked mine, I was bumped to 3/24 too.

How do you check your status online? Or are you just emailing them and having them respond?

I got the rebate check very quickly, which was nice.

Yeah, now showing 3/24 on my Media Edition, too. I wish I could say that I really believed that they'll be shipping it then, but I don't. It's like the guy said about his Vista upgrade... This might take 6 months. MSFT sucks. They shouldn't make offers that they're not willing to fulfill in a reasonable amount of time. The form said, "... please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery after general availability." Even if they make 3/24 (and I'm not holding my breath), that'll be beyond 8 weeks from 1/14.

Microsoft will send you an email (it takes a while to get after sending in your info) with a link where you can check your status

This is the generic link, yours will have your order number attached
https://status.microsoft.upgrade.com/

Cool. Thanks for the details. I tried putting my order number in there, along with my zip code, but it comes back with nothing. Guess I will wait for the order status ID email.

Here's my experience, fwiw:

I ordered mine from Amazon on the black Friday promotion ($124, with $100 rebate). Sent in the $6.99 (or whatever) in mid-Dec for the upgrade. Originally asked for Media edition. Then sent EMs to ask to change to home edition, because the web site said it includes Expressions Media. Got the Home edition about 2 weeks ago WITHOUT expressions Media. Sent them a "whassup" e-mail. Was told they'll send me the new copy in March if I send them back the old copy (fat chance! I'm not sending anything back until I have the new one). I just downloaded Expressions media trial from MS, and it's CRAP!!! (see my post in the photography section. Go to mactopia and download the Expressions Media trial, and then call MS and ask to change your order to home edition!) So, I'm just going to open my home edition and be done with it.

Whoa, I just checked my status for the Media edition, it was 3/24, now it's moved up to today's date and says it's airborne. Could it be true? We'll find out.

Thought it was too good to be true, but I checked the site and mine has also posted as being shipped. Now if I can remember what credit card I gave them I can check to see if they charged it!

I called Microsoft today to get an update on my order.

I have to say that I was pleased with the fact that a human being answered the phone and that I wasn't transferred to anyone during the call. The person who answered the phone was able to answer my questions himself. That has become a lost art in the modern age of Customer "Service."

That said, the information he gave wasn't great. They still have a backlog of over 10,000 envelopes to go through and it will be, "a couple more weeks," before I get my copy of Office 2008.

As frustrating as the delays are, I'm not as upset as I would have been if they weren't honest about it.

I e-mailed Microsoft yesterday about my order and here is the reply I received a few hours after sending my e-mail:

Please be assured that your proof of purchase materials have been received, and your order has been released and is currently processed for shipment at our warehouse. In 1-2 business days it should ship via DHL and will be trackable at that time. The estimated time of delivery is 3-5 business days.

Thank you for contacting Microsoft.

I checked the order page today and the status is still listed as "In process".

I'm still "in process." It does seem that the situation is improving, though. For the last couple days, my estimated shipping date has been today's (or yesterday's) date. I don't take that seriously, but at least it's an improvement over the mid-to-late March dates that were previously listed.

This offer is essentially a con job.
They told me that the boxtop I sent was the wrong one and that I needed to send the plastic wrap that had some logo stuck on it.
Then they said that I needed to send the entire front and back cover original of the getting started booklet inside the case.
They said once they got it it would go out in two days. Now thay say a minimum of 28 days.
I suspect that I will get yet another run-around from them before this is over.
If they were serious about the promotional offer, they wouldn't require such ridiculous proofs of purchase when a sales receipt would suffice.
Given that you have to activate every MS software to death, I don't see the need for such nitpicking and complicated proofs unless the real objective is to promote themselves without actually having to honor the vast majority of legitimate buyers who tried to take them up on the offer.

What is the Order status ID code? I have a Microsoft corp order# and a unique tracking number but neither of these work.
Thanks

I never received a confirmation email, but my credit card was charged yesterday from Microsoft (minus the tax it mentioned on my original order - it was for $6.99 exactly).

So I guess I'll watch for the shipment here shortly.
