Anyone have any thoughts about Mike Hargrove leaving the Mariners.

I guess we should take Hargrove at his word, that he really doesn't feel up to managing anymore. But it's really unfair to the rest of the franchise for him to just quit on them. They can't help but feel let down.

It's pretty unprecedented. Eight straight wins and your manager resigns? That's gotta throw your team a little bit. If he is telling the truth, and it is about a loss of passion, then I think he's a stand up guy. If it's some other reason that we're not seeing, then honestly, I hope the poor guy can fade into he background and not have a load of crap dragged out about the situation.

My feeling is that it's something personal,ie health,family,marriage..The Mariners are winning and are playing some good ball right now.To just up and step down right before the All Star break, there's more to it...

Someone explain how Barry Bonds was voted into the starting line up. he should not even be in the all star game IMO. And how can Ortiz be voted in as a first baseman if he is a DH. I don't understand how he should be allowed to take away from a true first baseman that deserves a spot. I think they should have a rule change that if there isn't going to be a DH in the game then why allow a DH to be voted in. Either add a DH or let a true first baseman start.

Compare Bonds' stats to Carlos Beltran's. Bonds' are superior in almost every category, but you choose to complain about Bonds being voted in? Last I looked Barry was second in slugging pct. and first in on-base percentage. He deserves to be in the game based on his numbers.

Every year it seems we have arguments about who deserves to play at the All Star Game, forgetting I suppose that it's the fans who put them there.

Hargrove did something wrong we don't know about. Thats my guess as it seems to explain the most. It doesn't even have to "wrong" it could just be something the mgmt didn't like. We shall see.

I didn't like Bonds swining in before Soriano.

the muts finally lost and we blow it...again. argh.

Actually, you were beaten in every way a team can be beaten: on pitching, offense, running, and defensive play.

I just don't want to hear about Matt Kemp being trade bait. This guy smacked a HR that hit the back wall of the bullpen -- off John Smoltz, no less.

Actually, as Vin pointed out after the commercial, Tsao caught it in the bullpen. But your point is taken.

And just when you thought Martin couldn't impress you more, he busts out a game like that. The guy is a dynamo.

i know, you guys are a good team, we suck and got lucky against bad teams. and we did get smacked, but i think it was partly because we were tired.

I know but Tsao caught the ball at the back wall of the bullpen. It's rare to see a guy with that much power. I think he's a keeper.

Martin is truly something, and you know he's bound to get better as his desire and intensity is tempered by more experience.

It's a long season. I was pleased by the way the Dodgers played this game. It took more than one thing to beat Smoltz on a night when he seemed in command.

What I liked about it was that even though they were fortunate to get the Kemp homer -- because Loney wasn't retired on the passed-ball-strikeout -- they still busted the game open the next inning. They took advantage of the Braves' mistake, then kept pouring it on.

At the same time, sometimes you wish they could save those extra runs for other games. And tough luck that Lowe couldn't get the win in that game. He's pitched well, but his record doesn't show it.

True story. Taking advantage of opportunities is one thing the Dodgers have not done well so far this season. I hope you're changing you mind some about Pierre. He really does drive pitchers and catchers nuts when he gets on base. He should practice that bunt double move.

Roll-over runs. Maybe they need to sign up for a provider who offers a plan.

My biggest concern right now is with Brett Tomko. Lately he seems to give up runs every time he pitches.

I haven't changed my mind about him. His base-stealing is by far his best asset. I just don't think he gets on base often enough to make up for his complete lack of power. I admit that he hasn't looked as lost in center field lately though.

Don't remind me. I was at the game Saturday night when he coughed up the game in the 12th inning. Good news from that game was that Nomar looked like maybe he's turned the corner.

Nomar should have been dropped down in the batting order long ago. Martin is thriving in the number three spot, something all of us armchair managers knew would happen if only Grady would make the move.

We're going to be at the game on Friday. I don't know who is starting yet but whoever it is, I'll be doing my best whammy-sign on the bullpen to make sure they don't bring in Tomko with anything less than a five run lead.

Wow, what's up with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays? Their offense is terrible, they're commiting far more errors than they should be, and they've lost 8 games in a row. The Cleveland Indians kinda brushed them aside in their latest 4-game series, especially in the 4th game...

Disclaimer: I'm a Cleveland Indians fan, but I have every right to look at things from the Devil Rays' perspective.:p

The impression I get is that Little wants to give the veterans a chance to hit out of their slumps, but that he will move a guy if he has to. This must be the "player's manager" rep that I had heard about. He also moved Pierre way down in the order briefly too. Personally, I don't think it should have taken so long to get Loney and Kemp more playing time, but I think it's fair to say that Little hasn't made many mistakes.

The Penny vs. Peavey pitching duel on Saturday night might have been the best pitching duel I've seen in person. Both of them went seven and gave up one run. Except for the All-Star game, we might not see a better pitching matchup before the playoffs.

Seattle's 0-2 with Hargrove gone. Gave up 17 runs to the Royals. Are the Mariners done for the year?

A 'standup guy'? Even if he had a lack of passion he was rather selfish to just give up on the team. He could have been even more of a standup guy by keeping his mouth shut and finishing the season for the team.
