well i'm coming on real good at the moment :)

My leg injury way back has gone only to be replaced by back ache :D ( another thread for that )

But - training for the 10k at the end of August Nike + Human thingy and i'm planning
Sat - 3k
Sun - 3k
Monday off as it's WWDC :cool:but normally 3k
Tues - 3k
Wed - 3k
Thurs - off
Fri - off
and so on for 3 weeks then changing to 3k then 4k for 2 weeks then 3k then 5k then jump in and do 2k 2k 2k 10k 2k and see how i fair from there

my mile pace has dropped from 10:11 then 9:22 and my last run 9:04 with a goal of running in around 8:00 - 8:30 per Mile for my 10K(6 Mile) 48 -51 Min total run

Also i'm eating like a horse at the moment - for lunch i almost polished off half a loaf of bread with soup and a side helping of noodles - is this normal ? i'm not that worried as i have not added any weight at all

Any one got any tips for me ?

I'm in boston and it's been just as hot. What I do when it's so hot is...

Suck it up and run. ;)

LikeTom - good to see you back at it again.

If you are going for endurance - keep posting more miles.
If you want to work on speed then include some interval workouts and some hill workouts.

 - Anyone notice that they removed the average pace from the public profile? This is not good as it makes it more difficult to enforce "calibration augmentation" - this is the main reason I try to always have a 5k or something out there.
Perhaps, if they do not put it back as a rule we should have anyone participating in any challenge doing more than 50 miles a month have to be in the 5K...thoughts? good idea or too Gestapo?

I first noticed about a week ago. Don't understand why they would pull it.
I would like everything on my Nike+ open for public inspection.
That would be the best way, probably not going to happen in the near future.
I'm happy to use any method that you can come up with, (I can't think of a system to use).

how do i join the macrumors challenge? is it in the nike+ gallery?
PM your Nike+ user name to Ziwi or post it here.

Agreed, with the addition that if you don't feel up to hills or intervals yet, you might start with some "lighter workouts." These could include tempo running or fartleks, both of which can be done in the course of regular runs and by the "feel" of the effort, rather than with an unforgiving stopwatch.

Yes, I noticed, and it's too bad. However, even with the pace up there or participation in a 5k, how could you catch a calibration cheater?

That said, I'm willing to be in a 5k if people want - with the understanding that there's no possible way for me to record my real fastest time.

It would be difficult to catch a calibration cheat. (Unless someone presents a 10 minute 5K, or I crack 25 min for 5k;))
I think the best way would be to open up everything in a Nike+ users page to public viewing. Probably wont happen.

I had the pm the other day and added the nike+ id - the fact that you did not get it makes me think the name is caps somewhere - I re-did it with the email so you should have a nice list now.

I got it and i joined all of them, thanks alot!!

I sold my nano and used the proceeds to get a nike+ sportband, and I'm very happy with the decision. The sportband seems really nice and easy to use. If I want to run with music (I usually don't), I still have my shuffle.

So if anyone often runs with the nano but no music, I definitely recommend the sportband! :)

have you calibrated it yet? how accurate do you find it?

i'm finding the sportband and a ipod shuffle the best combo ever

i've run round a 800 m track to see how far it's off- sportband say's 0.85K so 50 meters off track - but then i am a short arse and take more steps :D

About as (in)accurate as the nano. Today I ran 5.4 miles with 2 miles fast (~6 min/mile) and the sportband recorded it as 5.2. That's 96% accurate, and given that it gets less accurate at high speeds, that's not too bad. (I basically lost the whole .2 on the fast miles, and it was accurate when I was running normally).

shuffle + sportband is great. Much nicer than the nano, IMO (especially since most days I don't bring the shuffle at all).

It shouldn't matter how many steps you take - this isn't a pedometer. It's supposed to measure the acceleration of your foot.

i don't know, that seems pretty far off to me

ya, 50 meters off on an 800m isn't so good. 93.75% accurate. If you're doing a workout it's about what I'd expect, but if that's running at normal pace, that's disappointing IMO.

that's not too bad. mine has been off more than that, though i haven't been running too much lately. i remember doing a 25:00 run at around 7:00/mile, but it was registering over 7:30/mile (i know my pace pretty well, i could have been going even faster)

so i haven't actually measured it out.

have you calibrated yours?

I remember how off my Sportsband was. When I was going sub seven minute pace, it would say I was going at eight minute pace. It is better now, but it still is a little off when I get really fast.

yeah, that's close to the problem i've been having. i haven't gotten around to calibrating it yet though

Maybe I will give the sportband a try - QC - let me know how it works out for you.

Anyone know who markgjones is in macrumors? He is firing up one of the challenges (averaging over 9 miles/day), but is not in the 25,000 mile one. I have invited him several times, but he doesn't join. At his current rate he will easily best the best month of QC or Twood and that is out of nowhere... - anyway the mile could really be used in the 25K so I did not know if anyone knows who he is here...

i don't know who he is, and i can't remember if i saw him in any other challenges on nike+ either. i hope he is a member here though

I am liking the sportband a lot. It seems more accurate, though I don't know why that should be so, since the sensor appears to be the same. It is also a lot more comfortable than the nano, and it is pretty good looking, IMO.

I don't know who jones is either, or why he's only in one challenege. 9 miles a day is 63 per week, which is a lot, but hardly unheard of (I have friends who do twice that :-o). I would just like to know who he is.

i'm glad you like the sportsband. i assume that you calibrated it. i still need to calibrate mine. maybe one day i'll get to it.

after thinking about it, i'm almost certain that i've seen jones in other nike+ challenges (with some of the other top people on nike+). or at least i know i've seen his name somewhere (i have been in a lot of challenges)
