The battery on my sensor gave up last week so I ordered a new sensor from Nike. It arrived yesterday and I paired it with my iPod and did a run which it recorded as expected.

When I attached it to my iMac it launched iTunes and showed in the Nike+ tab of my mounted Nano as sensor 2 which is great, trouble is the runs won't sync to the nike+ site, it just times out.

Is there an issue with the site at the moment? Could this be an issue due to the new sensor?

it shouldn't be an issue with the sensor. i've had to do the same thing as you, and it worked for me.

i haven't been on the site today, so i'm not sure if that's the problem or not. just try again when you get a chance. you might have to log-in again or something though

Seems to have synced now, the site is so slow it's almost unusable again!

Nevermind at least its synced now.

glad to hear it! yeah, maybe oneday nike will get their website working properly, but i doubt it.

man, i just got back from a 5 mile run with some guys on the team, and boy am i out of it. i can barely type this

wow, i guess mine is just a dud then.

Well, mine still fails miserably with workouts (faster speeds). But on average runs it does seem better than the nano was. Maybe I'm just kidding myself.

haha, you'll get back in shape in no time, I'm sure. :)

soooo. anyone read anything about nike getting the sdk for teh iphone so that those of us who don t have a nano can use our iphone with the nike+ sensor?

I've heard nothing about this. I wouldn't be surprised to find out they were using it though. I wonder how big of a market that would be?

if they are not, then maybe someone else could do it? i don't know, there maybe isn't a huge market for it, but i think it would still pay off, I don't think it d be that difficult no?(then again i knwo nothing about programming or developping apps so it may be i dunno) teh point is, i want it and someone should make it so i can buy it...lol :p:D

Hi I'm looking to join, can you give me a low down of the kit you guys have? i.e. are you sticking with Nike shoes or trying specialist running shoes like Asics?

Is there a dedicate forum for this particular form of activity out there?

Thanks

i really hope that they do release it for the iphone and ipod touch

I dunno, I think they are too big to run with comfortably.

My sportband apparently didn't upload runs all week while connected, but I didn't notice until last night. A restart of my mac fixed it, but that's pretty strange.

Just picked up the band and gave it a trial walk and run and it was pretty close. I agree that running with a iPhone or Touch may be scary as I have killed a Nano with a little sweat, let alone weather or droppage.

Need new shoes again and running a 5k on Wed...I will wait on the shoes until after the race ;) Any racing strategies out there for a 5k - I run the miles, but I am not happy with my speed and since this is my 2nd race since H.S. (20+ years ago) was wondering what the strategies may be from others...

So I sent Ziwi my Nike ID and email address...now what? Is there a place to register on the Nike+ site? How does it work.
btw, ran 8 miles today!

yeah, I run a lot on measured miles, and my sportband has consistently been within 2% of accurate for everything except workouts. So that's pretty good - better than I did with my nano. I also get markedly different paces depending on the day, whereas with the nano my pace would always end up within a few seconds of the average (depending on calibration) no matter how fast or slowly I ran.

Race strategies - big topic. I'm assuming you're not going for the win here, but probably for a target time?

If that's the case, the best advice I can give is to go out on pace. You will be behind people that you end up beating because almost everyone goes out too fast. That's competitive nature, I guess, but in the end, your time will suffer if you start out under pace. You do need to start fast enough that you're around people of similar ability, and that may mean going out a little faster than you want. But try hard to run at or just under target pace the whole way.

The other thing (and this may sound a little contradictory but I don't think it is) is remember to compete. It's a race, not a time trial or a tempo run. Try to stay with people that you think you can stay with, and try to finish with nothing left in the tank, which I don't really advise in training.

Good luck!!

you might be right, but think about how big the market is for the iphone, and the ipod touch with the deal this year. i'm sure plenty of people that already have a nano, have an iphone, and when they forget their nano when they go for a run one day, they can use their iphone instead. just a thought.

hey, glad to see that the sportsband didn't lose your data

glad you like the band. let us know after you've used it a little more.

i agree with QC, you gotta have a goal pace, and you can't start off slower than it. the first mile is key. if you're right at pace, or just under, you should be good. but if you're just a little behind pace, you still have time to make up for it. but if you start way off pace, then it's hard to make up for it. and he does make a good point - race! and don't feel sorry if you beat a kid at the end - i've made that mistake before (at the finish, i could have given it all i had and beat a 17-year old kid that i've beaten at other races the year before, but i decided that it wasn't worth it, and i let him have it - 2nd place- i kinda regret it now)

he should send you an invite to the challenges - you'll get them in your email. thanks for joining!

Thanks twoodcc. I only managed about a week last time - rubbish!

I'm determined to do a full month running 3 times a week on the cto5k program. If any one wants to join me we could start a challenge. My goal on Nike+ is to run 12 times this month. Not much compared to you lot but I'm trying to make it a habit.
