If I had understood that from the start, I would have just went to the local store so that I could have 14 days to test all my MSFT apps.

If you opened the box, you'd still get stuck with that same 10% restocking fee. I don't know why it's so hard for people to just decide what they want and stick with their purchase.

Or just be patient for the inevitable release. Either people don't have a laptop and they need one right away (school perhaps), or they want something so bad they simply don't have the patience to wait a couple of more weeks.

Patience is a virtue, and I've been very patient since June. Though the last couple of weeks have been very exciting. :)

Hey, hey, lay off! I would love to wait for Merom, but this is for work (you know, bringin home the bacon), not just a hobby laptop. The last MAC I used was 13 years ago. If I'm going to pay $3K, it going to do everything I need it do, period! Don't get me wrong, the iTunes and other iStuff sounds great to have, but if I can't get my work done, I'll have a lot more than $350 to worry about.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. If you need it for work, why aren't you opening it up and using it instead of sending it back?

If you're talking about refusing delivery on it, it makes it sound like actually having the machine and using it isn't the highest priority.

milo, 33scottie33, don't make me pull this car over! Play nice. You're getting a Core 2 Duo sugar rush. :D

I'm just pointing out apple's policies on this. I'm not sure where scotties last reaction came from, didn't really seem to have much to do with my post he was responding to.

Tell Apple You Want A C2D Version

I thought Multimedia mentioned being able to return unopened new Macs in a previous thread that you can return it.
Yes but I didn't mean custom configured. You better refuse receipt and call Apple to tell them you will be doing so and call your credit card company to make sure they know you are doing so so you will get the credit.

Simple, if Merom is annouced tomorrow, I'll send it back. If it's announced next week, I keep it. Regardless, my mistake was in getting a custom one. I thought the 7200rpm HD would make a big difference, but just about everyone agrees that it doesn't. I originally went to the Apple store to purchase it, but they don't carry any with the 7200rpm HD.

If I would have researched and found this site sooner, I would have purchased it from the store last week and had 14 days to test all my apps. If everything would have worked I would have kept it, but considered returning it and loosing 10% if Merom came out within the 14 days.

Last week I did not care much about Merom, but after spending about a week on this site, I've caught some type of Merom fever or something and I just gotta have one! Especially when my ship date was originally the 29th, which is the day that there is so much hype about, I started to get my hopes up. Anyway, I think I'm just a little nervous and excited about my first MAC!

Can you do that? I mean, will your credit card company back you up on something that you custom ordered, then changed your mind on?

Sorry for my misunderstanding. At this point, Apple is treating it like a non-custom order. They said that I still have 14 days, but regardless, I will be charged 10%. I think that's even if I open it or not. I'll call back and asked since they made a note on my account.

However, I think they would change that too if I just asked for another one. They were super nice and answered the phone within one ring. I've never had that happen before.

Dunno if this means anything in particular but the 2.16 15" MBP now ships in 2 days, MB in 5 days whilst the others retain 24hrs. Maybe its due to high demand though

This is because of an earlier report that due to high demand during the back to school season, Apple has been having a hard time meeting demand. This time of year is always stressful for computer and especially notebook manufacturers.

Also, I've refreshed my MBP apple online store page several times, and all of the systems still say 24 hrs. to ship. I don't see anything about 2 days. I wouldn't be surprised though if the lower end MBP's were also seeing high demand by college students--wealthy college students. :)

yeah, perhaps its because of demand, but none of us wants to belive that, so lets just not mention it ;)

The norwegian store says 2 days on the smallest MBP and 24hrs on the two others.

rapid changes

I just went to check out the times on the US store, and watched as the MBP 15" changed from 3-5 days to 24hrs between refreshes. 5-7 days on the white MacBook, wow.

I wouldn't be surprised if the apple online store is getting wacked from all the apple groupies refreshing the site over and over and over.

Still says 24 hrs. across the board on the U.S. site. Not that this is really an issue. The good news is, merom MBP's will most like be shipping in two to three weeks. :D

FYI

Just got off the phone with CS. Since I'm a business customer, they said that I could return it within 14 days unopened or not. If all my programs run, I'll definitely keep it. I told the CS Rep that if Merom is released within 14 days, I will probably reconsider. When I told him that I was excited about Merom, he said, "I'm reading about it online and I'm excited about it too!"

I think they know what we think we know!

10 Days Not 14 •*Top MBP Will Be 2.33GHz Not 2.16GHz

Why would you want to keep it any longer than it takes to return it unopened? If you bought one that's 2.16GHz, the Merom version is going to be 2.33GHz. Your programs will all run on either Intel Mac. Not going to matter which one you get from that point of view.

I upgraded my Compaq from a 5400rpm to 7400rpm and the change was astounding with WinXP... I am sure it will be an equal experience for you with OSX... enjoy your toy if you keep it...

I'm more interested in 64bit support than the extra .17GHz. :)

what programs are these that might or might not work depending on what intel chip is in the mac?

I manage a large Active Directory environment and I have a lot of management tools that I want to run using Parallels. I also want to install my SMS tools, Quest Spotlight, NetPro Auditing tools, etc.

Why will those not run on the current processor? I do the same thing (manage AD) and plan to do the same thing, with the current processor. You said yourself you aren't interested in the speed boost.

Thanks for the info, that's great! I know tons about PCs, but I am almost clueless when it comes to a MAC. I've heard about all the things it can do, I just have not seen it. Like I said before, if everything works, I'm more than happy. So far, I've taken it out of the box and started it up with networking and stuff like that. I am pretty impressed already! I'm installing the updates now.

I guess after working strictly with PCs for the past 13 yrs, I just have this strange feeling about the MAC. It's like buying your first car, house, or better yet, proposing for the first time. Anyway, over the past hour, I've gotten more comfortable with it.

Lastly, it's not my fault that I want Merom. :) I've caught this fever from reading all the postings on this site!
