It could be correct

As i live in paris i checked around few stores , i asked to order a macbook pro they said they are out of supply until mid september. So maybe that could be true............

While I'd love to hear an announcement that Core2Duo MBP's will be available in stores next week, I have a feeling this report/rumor is correct. The 16th will probably be the magic day.

Crap! I cant quite wait til the 16th to get a macbook unless its announced, in production and i can have it delivered (UK) within a week cos i'll be moving back to university. The likely hood of this is.......?

I would say very likely based on all of the information from this forum, the site, external articles, ship dates of the competitors' Core2Duo systems, etc.

Regardless, it does fit in with the timeframe I and many others have been stating--2 to 3 weeks. Just a little longer. :)

I'll try to hang on. Not sure if its possible though as i'll then be getting the macbook practically the same time as moving to university. Which makes it extremely hard to 1) exchange it if theres any problems. 2) play around with it to get to know it (especially as i'll be busy with 1st week of university stuff! & the fact i'll be a switcher) and 3) get it set up for all my work.

I hate Apple....i wish i'd just got the macbook ages ago instead of waiting for WWDC and now waiting for this paris expo thing.

There must be a nice sort of bliss in ignorance for the uninformed masses out there buying up computers left and right.

If you weren't so informed about what's coming out, you could have just gotten the macbook and you'd have been content. But NOOOooo! You had to research, and come to these forums to educate yourself, and get to know what apple has up it's sleeves.

You've no one to blame but yourself. :D And I'm in the same boat. :(

Lol! Thats too right. I just HAD to do research damnit...i am a computer science student afterall. I reckon that if, in the next 2 or 3 days, theres no more evidence to back up this release then i'll just have to go ahead and order one. Waiting til the 16th is hard for me. I guess i can always exchange it seein as it'll have a fault with it anyway (they always do lol).

so true. i am willing to wait 2 weeks or so but what if in 2 weeks they say its comming in 2 weeks?

Sooo.. I know that BTO configs aren't returnable, we've established that many times over. I was just wondering though... on the 17" model, which is what I am waiting for, they give that choice of matte or glossy screen, do the stores carry both kinds? I assume that they are both considered "stock" options and not BTO even though you choose on the website? Right?

i've never seen so much waiting and deliberation for just a small performance bump. geez louese

::continues to wait with money in hand::

fortunately for me i have alloted a check from a client that i am getting on september 8th to buy a new 17" MPB; if i had the money in hand right now i admit i would be going a bit stir-crazy also :)

i got my TiBook 6 hours before they announced the aluminum powerbooks (school bulk purchase); no way i am letting that happen again, wether its worth the wait or not :)

I'm thinking Apple will wait with updating the MB for a while because they don't need to upgrade the whole line to stay competetive.

I just looked at the Dell, Toshiba and Gateway laptop websites. Only a few Core 2 Duos, mostly Core Duos, some Core Solos, some Pentium M's and a few Celeron/Celeron Duo.

All Apple has to do to stay competetive is update the MBP. (But hopefully they'll try to one up everyone :D

The Apple Store is showing all three MB models with 5-7 day shipping times, increased from 3-5 days on the 2ghz models.

try this

If you think that means something ... go to the Apple store web site and order a 20inch iMac... 10 days ... last night when I wanted to price a few items out it was 3-5 days... I hope it is the iMac...

At least you would then know they were coming out in 2 weeks instead of hoping they will come out in 2 weeks. You can make your buying decision based on that.

Someone will know that feeling

I think that's what the PS3 fanboys will be saying to themselves in November:)

Santa What?

Does anyone plan on waiting until Santa Rosa to purchase a MacBook Pro?

I own a seriously aging first generation TiBook, and I swear I am ready to take it out to pasture and shoot it. I almost caved and bought a Powerbook this time last year (thank God that didn't happen). I was all set to buy a MacBook Pro, but almost as soon as it was announced, people started talking about Merom. Well, now Merom is around the corner, and I just hear about Santa Rosa.

So, my question is this: is Santa Rosa worth waiting for, or am I just snagged in an infinite loop of hearing about what's next on Intel's pipeline?

If one were to wait for Santa Rosa, how long do you think it would be? WWSF in January? "Special, Fun Announcements" in April? This time next year, with rumors of an even cooler chip on the way? Next Tuesday?

Also, does anyone know what Santa Rosa actually entails? Is it just a speed update, or are there other features as well?

I am a video editor, and what concerns me most is being able to edit HD footage. I would also be keen on driving an external display in HD quality with DVI. I am unsure if the current generation of MacBook Pros can do this in full resolution without stutter, whether or not Merom can, etc.

Any thoughts about if MacBook Pro (15") will get the Firewire 800? Will it get HDMI?

Also, is everyone comfortable buying the "Rev A" Merom MacBook Pros? Or does the concept of Rev "X" not really apply when the processors change so frequently? Should we consider the Merom MacBook Pros the "Rev B's" of the MacBook Pro, or are they the "Rev A's" of the Merom MacBook Pros?

Tongue-twisting aside, my point is this: what if the first round out of the factory has that humming/screeching/whatever-it-is that people got with the initial MacBook Pros? Would it be safer to wait until around Halloween to make sure there were no glaring problems?

I swear to God, this is like deciding whether or not to get engaged...

Thanks for listening,
Jeff

i think there are a few things to remember when it comes to Rev A:

-there are major and minor Rev A's - G3 Pismo to first G4 titanium was a major Rev A; G4 to Intel was a major Rev A. i would consider Core Duo to Core 2 Duo to be a minor Rev A, if even a Rev A at all. I would consider the move from napa to santa rosa to be more of an inbetwen major and minor. A major case redesign (like from G4 Titanium to G4 Aluminum) would be more toward a major Rev A.

-the overwhelming majority of mac owners are perfectly happy with their Rev A (major and minor) hardware. posts you see on these forums are the tiny minority that not only are unhappy but want to talk about it. its a very good bet that you will not have a lot to worry about, even with a Rev A.

Yes and no. I already have an MBP, but i'm wiating to upgrade until Santa Rosa is out...in fact, i'm waiting until at least Penryn (the next chip after Merom) to upgrade.

My guess is probably when Intel feels like releasing it...
The target date is next April, but I have my doubts. It plans to include 802.11n but the vote takes place after that date.

Well you happened to ask.....
Santa Rosa is the next generation Centrino platform. The current version is Napa, which is the third generation, with the Core Duo chips, later with merom.
Santa Rosa includes:
New CPU Socket- no more pin compatibility with Core Duo/early Core 2 Duo Merom chips
800MT/S FSB for Merom (up from 667MT/S on Yonah and early Merom)
possible/probable minor Merom speed bump
New chipset with better integrated graphics where IG is being used
802.11n Support

Well, it seems now inevitable that MBPs and iMacs will be released on the 16th.

Apple must be really pissed with France. Try livid with images of burning, pain and destruction of everything to do with snail and frog eaters.

Stupid French. Apologies to all French people here who had nothing to do with the ITMS & DRM calamity.

OK, I have no interest in new iPods, but I'm thinking that Apple had better start releasing new ones soon. Their entire line is looking a bit shabby and old. Not to mention that there seem to be better music players around. That has to change. And soon.

And Apple's quite behind in Conroe stakes. Maybe the iMac will get Merom after all??? I certainly hope not! We Want Conroe iMacs!

I am new and a hope to be switcher to a MB. All this discussion about the date for the meron chips is interesting, especially about the date etc. Note sure if this point has been made before as I have not read the whole thread but the iPod promotion in the UK is "up to £100 off the price of iPod when bought with a MAC before the 7th of October".

How does this date reflect in the discussions? If people are right about the 16th and the reasons why, does that then suggest that the meron chipped machines will not be available in the UK until after this date?

Interested in knowing your thougts and thanks for all the great discussions.

Don't expect merom across the board

For those interested in the mac mini and MB rather than the pro, don't hold your breath for Merom.

Although Core 2 Duo chips are the same price as Core Duos are now, expect the price of Core Duos to fall as soon as Core 2 Duos ship. Also Intel has not converted all their pipelines to produce Core 2 Duos yet. This means they are rationing Core Duos and Core 2 Duos out to manufacturers.

Depending on the deal Apple has with Intel, they may have no choice but to continue putting Core Duos in some of their products for a while yet.

How will Apple react to this? As I have not had expereince of what they did previoulsy. In the PC world the manufacturers would just lower their prices when component prices fell, or up the spec. What will Apple do if the price of the processor falls?

You're pissed at Apple about this? Since nobody else is shipping meroms until the midst of your moving/starting college, you'd be in the same boat with any other laptop. Blame intel for releasing chips the week school starts.

So if they're behind, which PC maker is shippiing conroe machines TODAY? I've asked this a couple times, and the only answers have been links to machines that haven't shipped yet, or links to chips on their own. Seriously, is anyone shippng PC's with conroe yet?

dunno what this means if anything, but on the uk apple store, shipping times for macbooks is now 7 days - 24 hrs for macbook pros though.
