Does anyone know what the RAM configuration would be in the new iMacs? I was thinking of ordering it with 512mb of RAM from Apple, then popping in an extra 1gb stick from Crucial, but will they ship it with 2x256mb modules filling the slots?

"512MB (single SO-DIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300)"

Thats the only option availble for 512 RAM, so no they will not ship it with x2 256.

when do you think that will be?

Within a few days. I called the Cambridgeside Galleria Apple Store and they said January 17, but maybe sooner.

I ordered mine from the UK Apple store on the evening of the keynote (about 8, it finished about 6.30)

iMac 20'' Dual 2ghz
2GB RAM (1gb Apple and 1gb Crucial)
X1600 256MB VRAM
BT KB and Mouse

I will at some point be getting a 24'' Dell to go with it

Its due to ship on or before the 18th

I bought one too!

I am so happy that I didn't buy a iMac G5. I was pretty convinced through reading all the rumors, and the fact they just refreshed the iMac recently that they were going to unveil a laptop, and possibly a Mac mini. I ordered my 20" yesterday off my company's EPP website, scheduled ship 1/19. Our EPP discount is about as good as most college bookstore discounts. I upgraded the video memory, rest is stock. I also did play with them at macworld too, but nothing too indepth.

It's my first Mac and I've been agonizing over a move ever since the mini came out. I am so happy!

I was first going to get a MacBook Pro, but after finding out Apple didn't have any battery info for it (which can't be a good thing) I decided to keep onto my current PowerBook until Rev B MacBook Pro.

I then considered getting an iMac, but am not sure about waiting for the Intel PowerMacs instead (since they should be out at WWDC). I look forward to seeing your reviews of the iMac so I can decide whether to get it.

Ordered mine after the keynote, when the UK site came back up :)

20" with 1 GB and B/T Keyboard & Mouse.

Shipping on or before 18th January.

Now to sell my 5 month old 20" 2GHZ G5 iMac :(

I just ordered mine::D

20" imac dual core
256mb ATI VRAM
Wireless KB & Mouse
1 GB Ram (one stick).

No shipping date given, just the 3-5 business days waiting.

Also, upgrading to 1GB Ram costs the same for 2x512 sticks or 1x1GB stick. I'm not sure if that's a mistake on Apple's part because a 1GB stick on Crucial is about 130.

Ordered mine a few minutes after announced and they just shipped. 2 17" imacs!

*GREAT* I'm very happy for you, and I'm also happy for myself.

This means they are starting to send these pieces out. Great News. Maybe I can have mine by next Friday *dreaming* :)

what i NEED to know about this...

I bought a rev a imac g5, pretty quickly after they were announced.
What irritates me is the noise of it. I don't have a super loud one, but it does live in my bedroom, and i cannot leave it on overnight very often, due to the fan noise.

So how does the intel version compare? is it much quieter? louder? i simply can't live with one if it's too loud. would be nice to know.

also, if anyone happens to compress any divx to dvd, i wouldn't mind knowing how fast it handles it.

I have a Rev B. iMac G5, my parents have a Rev C., and after using a Rev A. at work, I've noticed that it's a hell of a lot louder than the other two.

It's really not clear in the UK whether iLife 06 is shipped as standard with the iMac Core Duo. If you place an order, the Store then suggests iLife as an optional item before you check out. Being the nervous type I ordered this too; hope I haven't wasted 50 quid! The 'in the box' list is definitely different in the UK and US stores:

ATI Radeon X1600-128MB SDRAM
1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM-1x1GB
250GB Serial ATA drive
SuperDrive 8X
Kybd, Mighty Mse & Mac OS X-B
Country Kit-B

Is this yet another case of UK customers paying over the odds for technology?

It really should be on the system, or on a CD, with the Mac. I'd suggest you do not open your iLife 06 box until you get your imac, and see if you have iLife 06 on it. If you do, return the retail box, and get your money back. :)

My iMac is on it's way :) I ordered right after the store came back up on Tuesday, and i did a CTO w/ a Wireless Keyboard/Mouse combo. Just got the e-mail from Apple.

Shipped via FedEx.... Tracking Number as of now just says Package Data Transmitted at that was at 8:50 this morning.

Should be here early next week :)

I played with one of the Intel iMacs today at MacWorld - everything was lightening fast except for Photoshop. I opened Photoshop, and its icon bounced, and bounced, and bounced, and bounced, and bounced, and bounced, and bounced, and bounced, and bounced... Followed by a couple beachballs, the splash screen, another beachball, and finally PS was open.
That's pretty much what Photoshop does in my G4 :)

Strange. You would think they would give you that kind of info when ordering over the phone.

Really? Right from the UK store iMac description on the right hand side.

Included software
iMac comes with an incredible bundle of Universal applications that run on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs:

* • iLife ’06
* • iWork ’06 30-day trial
* • Front Row
* • Photo Booth
* • Big Bang Board Games
* • Comic Life
* • OmniOutliner

Perhaps your excitement caused you to miss that...

Finally shipped this morning. Tracking number isn't quite working though... :confused:

So, I guess there's no chance of it arriving tomorrow, tomorrow being Saturday... Now to wait till next week... *sigh*

I ordered one earlier today from the Canadian store. 17inches with 1GB and the apple care dealio. Is apple care generally a good call? I guess i wanted to play it on the safe side what with the intel stuff and all. It says it'll be shipped on the 23rd of January. Pretty excited, this is the first computer i'm buying myself, and a big step up from the 500mhz G3 imac i've been on at my folk's place since 2001. Can't wait to hear some user reviews. Make sure i didn't make a mistake in not waiting to hear some early reactions.

My new Mactel has been shipped

I ordered a 20" Imac the morining of 1/12. As of that night my shipment date was the 18th. Tonight when I got home, I had an email from Apple saying my order has been shipped. The only bummer is that tracking number isn't working yet. Now all I need is the shippment notice from Crucial for my 1 gig os memory. :D

Say hello to Rosetta. That's what Photoshop is going to do until Adobe release CS3 later this year - then it will be Intel native.
