For all of you who blindly ran off to jailbreak their iPhone, good luck! I'll stay here in the sandbox by myself. Not because I'm some 'Apple Fanboy', but because I'm not rich and can't afford to buy another iPhone 4 when some jackball eventually figures out a way to brick the iPhone with some clever code. No thank you.

yea, b/c the jailbreak caused the hole in IOS4's security right?

blind hatred of Jailbreaking:rolleyes:
stay in your sandbox... you seem to be thinking as much as the rest of the toddlers in there right now..:p

your phone is just as vunerable right now to being a brick through the web as the rest of us buddy.

Good Point.

I am a little suspicious of this easy and convenient Jailbreak....

i had fun on it for a while then that **** bricked my iphone 4 i had to do into dfu mode to fix it never again will i jailbreak

This is how I got it to work for ME.

Hey, I was on a teadmill clicking retry retry retry from jailbreakme.com...

And, I found the following on the interwebs and it worked for me on the 2nd try.

Do the steps exactly, I am no engineer but it worked for me...

Sorry if its already in here, but this is for the people starting on the last page... the following worked for me perfectly:

____________________________________________________________

TRY THIS!

If you are stuck at the purple screen, do these steps!!! (Only on 3GS or 4)

1) put your iphone to Airplane mode.

2) Go to -> Setting -> safari -> Cookies -> Accept.

3) Double tap home button.

4) Press and hold to quit safari (in multitask mode)

5) Clear all Cache n cookies.

6) Open safari and go to jailbreakme.modmyi.com

7) If cannot, Repeat!

Anyone JB in Japan yet?

Anyone try this JB in Japan (SoftBank) yet? I'm about to give it a go.

[by the way, wish those wanting to discuss whether JB'ing is stoopid, etheekal, etc. would start their own thread that I could ignore--would really prefer reading about people's experience with this particular JB without scrolling thru tired, unrelated rants--end of my rant:)]

Totally worked for me, man. Thanks!

interestingly, i did the jailbreak. When you start the iphone, the Apple logo covered in a black background. You can see a pixel line thats not black, but like green, white and blue....

It goes away when its finally loaded, but every time I reload the springboard, it shows up during that period. I think its the text background of the system restarting that you are seeing.

JB smooth as silk in Nippon

Just now finished JB on SoftBank 3GS in Japan. Easy Peasy, everything wrapped up in a few minutes, Cydia snapped right open, back in business! Maybe time zone diff helped out?

Best of luck to you guys still trying to get JB going! I'll make my donation to Comex today!:)

Cydia is as slow as snot right now...

I cant't do anything:(

Agreed. That was by far the smoothest JB I've ever done, but Cydia has crapped out so bad that I can't do anything with it. Hopefully it'll simmer down later tonight. Otherwise I'll un-JB and run normal until things quiet down.

So I jailbroke my iPad...

Now all I can think is well why?
To be honest it's all a bit of an anti-climax.

I installed winterboard but can not see how you can tell from Cydia which themes are the best ones to download as there are no explanations, so it could all just be hit and miss which is a real waste of time.

I have sbsettings installed but again which theme...?

The main page of Cydia is difficult to follow if you are not savvy on what it is and how it works....

Overall I think I will restore as I see no big advantages to me.

So, apparently it does suck to be under Steve Job's heel. Look how enthusiastically people accepted an easy way out of the "jail" ;)

I am afraid I might end badly for some. You'd better knew what you were doing in a first place.

Why don't you try out some of the apps such as iBlacklist, MyWi and many others. Those are the reasons I jailbreak. They give the phone the missing pieces that it should have had from the start. Themes and winterboard never did anything for me.

There are also sources that you can add that contain even more apps/mods. I don't even have a full list of those sources, maybe someone here does.

Here, try this directory: http://ipodtouchtricks.net/ipod-tou...sources-for-jailbroken-ipod-touch-and-iphone/

I wouldn't be going around promoting Installous here, you'll start a war.
You should only really be using Installous to try out an app you're considering buying. The developers have spent many hours working on their apps and if they get pirated too much they'll just stop producing them.

All restored..

I was worried I would end up losing all my books on stanza but I just ended up with two copies of each book instead :)

I somehow now feel safer and not as worried that my iPad was going to become an expensive brick at any moment.

In my opinion Jailbreaking is a total waste of time. Done it didn't like it all that much won't do it again.

(Bit like being gay and snorting meth)

My3g should be reason enough to jailbreak. YouTube over 3G is restricted UNLIKE ANDROID. WTF apple

Wow...you managed to miss the part where I said "or even the monthly rates of the current tiered structure".

Oh, wait, that was part of my quoted reply you responded to. You may have missed it, since it was obscured by parentheses.

You're missing the point here: this isn't about "paying for X amount of data". Even the "unlimited" plan had a soft cap of 5GB/month, at which point AT&T would start bugging -- and even disabling -- customers who abused it.

The current data rates are based on a presumption of usage amounts on particular types of devices. They would cost more if tethering/hotspot usage was included, because they KNOW that most customers simply do not use certain amounts of data on these types of devices.
Their expectation that users of certain types of devices would never actually reach certain levels of usage (eg. 2 GB), is irrelevant. If they didn't want people to actually make full use of their bandwidth allocation, then they shouldn't have offered to sell that much allocation of bandwidth in the first place. The fact of the matter is, they have said that 2GB of usage under that plan is OK. If it isn't OK, then they are overselling their bandwidth.

You're probably correct that the current cellular data pricing model is not in the same category as wired broadband Internet at present. But I emphatically believe that it should be, and if that means increasing the price to reflect the true scarcity of the resource and the true cost of supplying the full amount of service advertised, then I am all for it.
