I switched on my mac today, and the second monitor came to life!!!

Next job, flashing a FireGl X3.

So, that was a bust. Can anyone point me in the direction of a How To Flash a PC Graphics Card Mac?
I can't find one. :(:mad:o_O

I got a cheap FireGL!
It's a V5100, not an X2, but I'm not worried, and yes - it is a PCI express card.
Pics later.

Still hoping someone can point me at some flashing info. Please?

A PCI-E card will NOT work. It needs to be PCI

Once again, how do you expect to get a PCI express GPU working in a G4? The only PowerPC Mac with PCIe slots is the late 2005 Power Mac G5.

I'd like to know how to flash an AGP FireGL X3, not the PCI-e V5100.
Speaking of which, here is that dirt cheap, faulty, and slightly blurry (it's like that in real life, honest;)) PCI-e V5100...

Now with the heat sink off...
(yes, it's a heat sink donor)

Meanwhile, remember those bits of board?
Here they are, with some filler added...
(beginning to look more like a duct now)

Trial fit against a PSU...

Hmm, more work needed.

And then an AGP ATI X800XT PE came my way.

So, how do I flash this thing?

I did find (and download) a reduced ROM for it, how can I find the ATI Flashing Utility?

Apart form taping contacts 3 and 11, is there anything I need to know?

I know its a Power PC chip, but my MDD isn't running DOS.
I've had a real good around search with Google, and I've come up with nothing that runs on Leopard.
Which is why I'm here asking for a point in the right direction.

I did find that, but it seamed to be all about overclocking...
This tool can do two related things:

- Display and modify core and memory frequencies stored in a flashing utility (ATI only).
- Display and modify core and memory frequencies stored in a ROM (ATI and NVIDIA).

Even though it did mention ROM flashing...
Then use the utilities on the disk image to flash the modified ROMs on cards.

And...
Mac OS 10.2.6 with Java 1.4 update or later.
...sounded promising, but I didn't see anywhere it saying
"This will flash bios from PC to Mac." or anything similar.
If it's what I need, then great!
(it'll save me from needing an AGP PC*)

*I discovered a PC motherboard with 8x AGP and 16x PCI Express slots, the ASRock ALiveDual-eSATA2. Also has 3 PCI slots.

Just been on a road trip, collected the replacement hushpuppy.
Fingers crossed for better luck with this one!

Also, the duct is shaping up, pics soon.

Ive heard of many people flashing their ATI cards with this utility, you should have no problem.

When I converted mine to a duct I left the finger guards off as there was no point to them any longer.
Whole conversion start to finish took maybe 30 minutes, add another 15 minutes for the duct construction.
Works like a charm, totally silent and cool.

My duct seams to be taking a little longer.
How did you remove the finger guards?

On a side note, I've taped up pins 3 and 11, swapped in the FireGLX3 card to flash, fired up the mac and...
Nothing, it went bong, I can hear the fans and HD doing their thing, but no image on any monitor what so ever!*
Swapped back the factory fit AGP card and now everything works just fine.

I think I might be needing an AGP PC and a DOS boot disc after all.

*including the monitor plugged in to the PCI card.

I now have a PC motherboard and stuff.
Need a DOS boot floppy.:(
(3.5 floppy drive and 34-pin IDE cable on order)

OK, I need to build this up, but then I can try DOS flashing AGP cards.
Also it'll be a good home for the Gainward Bliss 7900GT Golden Sample (256MB) Gfx card. Which I originally bought for my PCIe G5, before finding out it wouldn't flash to mac bios.

Need a CPU.
This PC business is not as easy as PC owners make out!

"Buy a PC, macs are so over priced!" except they're not, and when you buy a mac you don't need to spend a month trying to juggle what components will work with what.

I now have a mother board, a PSU, IDE DVD (I've got several lying around), ram (same as MDD, conveniently), graphics card, hard disk.
Need... CPU, CPU heat sink (might nick one from my spares G5), DOS boot floppy, case, antidepressants.
This PC business is not as easy as PC owners make out!

On a side note, the replacement for hush puppy is running perfectly (I'm on it now).
CPU stable 58.0C - 58.3C.
PSU stable 35.9 - 36.1C, (19% humidity).
