Did Apple pinch a concept that was in the air because of OK GO? Yes.

Was harm done to OK GO? No.

Can ideas like forced perspective (which existed looooong before The Writing On The Wall video!) be legally protected? No.

They can gripe all they like. But they have no standing, legally or morally.

Er... what about the 100s of other segments adverts videos that have used forced perspective over the past 50 years?

and the fact is they used the same production company and Director.... and it was probably their idea and vision.

The Band is just have sour grapes as they didn't get a cut... Screams of self promotion this.

It is a rip-off but I don't think it's a big deal - Apple stole the idea, so what.

Well Apple accused Samsung of copying... However, this is a case of they hired the guy who made the OK Go video to make one for Apple. I'm not sure what claim they have TBQH...

Apple's version, while similar, is still very different than OK GO's, and honestly, much better as well. Sorry.

OK GONE.

OK Go didn't invent that gimmick. Neither did 1stAveMachine, though the band might want to have words with them for doling it out like a cheap hooker.

In other news, Samsung is claiming Apple stole the idea for larger phones and poached Jony Ive from Samsung's antennae band design group.

You think you'd be kind to the company that put your video on every single iPod which gave them massive amounts of publicity.

Now don't get me wrong their videos are good but to say Apple copied them? No.

I suppose the think they invented dancing on treadmills and Rube Goldberg machines too..?

Yep they stole the idea. Apple's isn't done as well and isn't even real as it is clearly a 3D animation but you can't own a concept like that so OK Go will have to give up on that claim.

UK TV channel "Channel 4" has been doing that kind of thing for years, in lots and lots of variations (except that the end result is always a giant number 4 turning up shortly then disappearing), so OK Go would have a hard time showing that anything was "stolen" from them. The actual videos have no similarity.

When I saw the Clip on the Apple Keynote, I did immediately think to myself 'thats remarkably similar to the new OK Go video!'

I thought "they are using the same idea as Channel 4". I didn't think of any actual similarities.

PS. Forgot the excellent Honda adverts. Which look style wise more similar to the Apple video; but still no similarity.

The director has every right to use the same style on another project, unless he singed a very explicit contract.

Wait, this is considered ROCK these days? To me it looks like a couple steps above boy band, but what do I know about today's music. I know this isn't the ROCK I am used to.

If you want to see examples of this effect (anamorphic illusions) that OK Go lifted, Google the work by the artist Felice Varini. He started doing this in the year 2000.

Some examples:

boring

Both videos are proof the producers have a lack of creativity. Apple should stop broadcasting this advertisement and ok go should stop as a band. It's not original at all. Shame you :apple:

Hopefully the original chalk artist that started making those perspective chalk drawings popular won't complain about OK GO's music video.

Listen

Who cares that they used someone else's idea and improved on it. Apple produced is a wonderful video that Apple should listen themselves.

To a company I loved once: NOTHING you have released in the last 3 year has improved on anything I already have, made anything I need more accessible, or improved my life in any way, shape, or form...

Maybe that's just me, so say "who cares", but that doesn't change the truth.

Wait - what? Doesn't even look like they copy any of the same effects....

So Apple makes a video in which they use various perspectives to show various messages? That's something that is owned by someone else?

This is a huge stretch.....

This is far from a unique concept ... also in "It Might Get Loud" (2008)

This same concept appears at 1:13:20 of "It Might Get Loud" (2008) during a monologue by U2's The Edge.
