I think that's the point.. You only do menial tasks that a cheap laptop is more than capable of yet you have a 2000+ laptop.

I know what you mean though as I'm in a similar position. I don't really do anything taxing an I do buy mainly because of the OS.

But I do understand where people are coming from..

I agree that people may think that because his machine's capabilities overpower his usage but, if that's the case, the majority of Mac users would fit into that category.

There really is something to be said about the build quality and OS.

Personally, I didn't become a Mac owner for any sort of status. If I'm viewed as someone that thinks I'm better, I don't care because that's not how I feel.

I think the majority of computer users full stop would fit into that category. It's a matter of some debate whether the every increasing demands of Windows have driven hardware forward or whether Windows have taken advantage of the technology advances. Either way, most people could probably get by with something not much more powerful than an Atom-based Netbook for web surfing, email, youtube, etc.

Definitely but the users on the other side aren't judged for the machine they're using.

I disagree on this one. Fanboi is synonymous with Apple because 95% of the market is Windows so there are 19 Windows users shouting Fanboi at the Mac User and only 1 shouting back ;)

(said tongue in cheek)
Better take another look at the MacOSX Market share :)

If one offered the choice between a Mac or Windoze laptop to a hater (for free), I wonder which they'd choose. :)
A windows user would choose the Mac and say: ,,Just so I can sell it and buy two windows PC's''

QUOTE]

My car does 0-60 in 4.8 and has a limited top of 155. Mostly I use it to drive to various stores & restaurants and to drive to visit friends and family in the region. I could do that with some beater off a used car lot that cost less than my SSDs.

If used the full capabilities of the car (except for the acceleration when merging on highways), I'd end up in jail and the only thing I'd ever drive after that is my wife crazy.

So why do I have it? Well, it's nice to look at, and even though ultimately does the same job as the hypothetical 1992 Honda Civic with a giant tailpipe, it does it in a way that's more enjoyable, a little faster, and a lot safer.... Just like my MBP (and the one before it, and the one before that).

for it's worth on the fanboy front,

i own a alu-unibody 13.3" MacBook, 64GB 3g iPad 2, 16GB iPhone 4, apple TV2 and another MacBook. I love them all and the way they sync with MobileMe and all aesthetically compliment each other. Yet i recommended my gf get her hp laptop because it suited her needs and i think HTCs have come leaps and bounds i love them too. But i like mac. owning everything and loving apple doesnt make a fanboy. Being a douchbag about it does and yeah, they give the rest of us a bad name.

p.s.s windows DOES drive me crazy with its constant bugs lol, thats worth $500 at least if you spend more than 2 hours a day on your laptop, my 2 cents

I don't hate apple laptops. I am buying one this summer. It will be a good laptop for me. I just do not like how their laptops are so extremely overpriced. The markup on the apple laptops is like 70% over what it cost in labor and parts. That's what I do not like about apple laptops. I wish they could do something about that. And that $100 discount is really not much of a discount for starving students like me.

I honestly can't think of an Apple product in recent history that was a complete flop.

There has been lots of apple products that have flopped.

Here's a bunch:

Apple Pippin
20th Anniversary Macintosh
Macintosh TV
Macintosh Portable
Apple Lisa
Apple Newton
G4 CUBE
Apple Hockey puck mouse
iPod Hi-Fi
Mac Cube

To me its just a matter of preference.

Blatant fanboism does exist, its because of these few people raving about some really insignificant features(for eg: i have safari, the best mac browser ever),
instead of pointing out some cogent arguments.

End of the day,its what you do with what you have that counts, and not just mere possession.

I was recently using my MBP at a friends house. I was playing a game over LAN with him. My friend says to his girlfriend, "Hey, check out his sweet laptop". She looks over and sees me using Windows launching the game and says, "Well, it looks okay, but it's no Mac." I give her my "You're an idiot" stare and flip the laptop around to show the apple logo on the lid. Her expression changed from showing no interest at all to something like a kid in a candy store wanting to look at it.

Some people are so biased towards Apple. lol

Maybe I'm mistaken but your story demonstrates a bias against non-Apple products.

"it's no Mac".

You forgot the "Magic Trackpad" that's still going for $70 :D

There is good bias and bad bias. She has it in her mind that anything non-Apple is not good and that anything made by Apple is the best thing ever created.

Edit: Just saying the bias goes both ways. There are some that think people with Apple computers are snobs and then there are people who think people without Apple products are uncivilized bumpkins.

Gotcha, guess I perceived the last statement you made in that post as referring to her.

Yeah, fanboys are terrible. Honestly, when people try giving me crap about having a mac, I just sit there and take it.

Person: "Oh, you have a mac? It must be a piece of ******."

me: "Yup, sure is."

People often ask me why I say things like this, and I tell them. Look, I have a mac, because I find it to work easier for me. I can do the things I want with it, and I can be more productive on a mac. You have windows because, for you, it does the things you need it to, and you can be productive on it. I mean, to each his own man!!! Jeez

Relax girl. Its just a computer.

this is out there on left field, but why do we still call 'em computers when we do everything but compute on these machines

A computer is, "a programmable machine designed to sequentially and automatically carry out a sequence of arithmetic or logical operations."

Macs and Pcs both do that, regardless of what task or program they are running.

MacHeads get upset over the term "computer". So sensitive.:p LOL :D

I would like to see someone address the pricing. Ripping people off in pricing is a pretty sound reason to hate apple.

Perhaps because they can't afford them? I have a friend who hates everything I have and he doesn't because he can't afford to buy them. I sense that this is what's going on when someone keeps talking about their $1,000 Asus laptop's "build quality."

Perhaps because they can't afford them?

Perhaps that's because they are overpriced to begin with.

To what extent is Apple ripping people off?

An 81% markup is not ripping people off?

Hey, i'm not against apple. Do not get me wrong here! My first computer was an apple and I am buying a new Mbp this summer.

Using iTunes or surfing the web or doing email without a crash or a million security pop-ups or some other windows nightmare is NOT menial!! It's what I pay for. I don't care if it's $2000 or $5000, I pay whatever i have to to have a premium experience. Yes, a Honda will get me from point A to point B just like my BMW, but it's the journey that counts :)

So you are going to pay $5,000.00 to have what you can get for free with a simple anti-malware program?

I do not know why you people argue mac vs. pc because macs now a days are essentially pcs. :p

wtf bro i can buy a M14X+super CPU and kingston 1600MHz hyperX 2x4GB for less than 1800$

and the MBP 15" base is 1900$ + with the hyperX RAM

one thing you have to do after that is

hackintosh install

and have a 14 inch laptop that pwns the MBP

TL;DR expensive

Most that criticize Apple haven't actually used one since the old "System" days, OR the initial Mac OS days - PowerPC era. Some actually go so far as to say, "man, I'd use it if I could right click!!" That's evidence of someone that hasn't used one in AGES. Or the ones who tried VMWare back at version 1 YEARS ago and judge it now based on that experience. Or the ones that don't understand that running Windows in Boot Camp and/or virtual machine on the Mac is actually superior to running the same OS on a PC. I mean I've actually sold MacBook Pros to people who still don't understand the appeal and would rather keep on running System Restore.

My personal favorite is when I'm in a conference room with other people and their PC laptops die in 2 hours while mine still shows 6 remaining.

I'm a Mac. I'm a PC.

Cute commercials that totally pissed off an entire market segment and created the stigma of Mac users being trendy douchbags in the minds of people who've never actually met a real live Mac user before.

They were great commercials in that they definitely raised the Mac's profile in the marketplace... however I do wonder how many PC users they alienated in the process?

Yeah, I thaught the same thing. Those commercials were cute but PC people I talked to never really felt hit by it. It was more like the Mac dude was glorifying himself in some sort of strawman argument.

But on the other hand. There are always those who are agitated by what they feel is false marketing, resulting i things like this:

apple,mac,pc,divertente,informatica,webcam-f4986c8c857895d341a1ea221682b50b_h.jpg
