still waiting on mac laptops to get the same treatment
I’d say this move, if true, would enable production costs to lower to the point where we will indeed see MacBooks with OLED soon.

That would be a pretty major change, the last of which - beyond internals - was quite a while ago.

At least, that’s the justification I’ve concocted to justify my optimism…

let's hope they add the high-impedance audio jack so the 2017 iPad Pro 10.5" can finally have a competitor

Like most in this thread, the 2018 iPad is probably the best device Apple has ever release.

What a $^£$ing beast, it's just been fantastic for nearly 6 years.

Now we're FINALLY getting a redesign, OLED and M3 so now is the time to upgrade.

Mini LED, more cameras etc all utter filer years and marketing trash, even M chips are pointless with an OS that does nothing with that power.

I will be getting a 12.9" pro UNLESS the rumoured disgusting price increases are true, then ill go Galaxy Ultra Tab 9 for far better value and specs.

I keep on hearing this complaint.
I have no idea what expectation you have, but I can tell you that there are numerous professional uses, and associated apps, that require powerful iPads.

Personally I use the iPad for music making, as well as other uses.
It is not unusual for me to run AUM and Audiobus concurrently with numerous AUv3 synthesisers and effects and audio/MIDI converter, looping and Cubasis multitrack recording.
This can add up to 15/20 apps running concurrently and talking to one another in real time with unnoticeable latency, to the point that it can be used in a live performance setting without any issue.
iOS allows me and many others to do this.

Also, like many others I use the iPad for image editing, art creation and video editing. All of this connected to iCloud-Drive and, when required, to external disks.
iOS allows me and many others to to this.

Literally I have no idea what some people are missing and every time I ask the question I get the usual answer that it doesn’t have a “proper” file system.
Doesn’t it? Who cares. It has zero practical impact.

I actually look forward to a more performant CPU coming from an 2018 iPad Pro. And I only use it for browsing and video watching most of the time. It's getting slower and slower, each iPad OS release.

The file system on iPad OS is really **** and I hate to deal with it. It's so complicated and unreliable, especially with all the cloud file providers. This is one of the reason I can't take the iPad seriously as a computer to get work done.

OLED itself + 11/13 inch size OLED + LPTO + Two Stack Tandem OLED + mini-LED grade specs and performance will dramatically increase the price and the rumor might be true. Two Stack Tandem OLED already 2,3 times more expensive than regular OLED and even LG who made Two stack for a while barely developed it for iPad version.

I feel weird kind of envy towards people with really old iPads now 😄

I have 2021 M1 model and although I hate how blacks are actually greys on the display, it's probably the only single thing wrong with iPad Pro hardware for me. I just could not see myself replacing it because of how insanely powerful it is and will be for years. Well, given OS/Apps restrictions as in Apple's "this is not a Mac".

Why couldn't you switch to OLEDs sooner Apple🙁

A truly "magic" keyboard would be one that you don't have to replace every time they change the format slightly. They're not cheap and they continue to work longer than the ipad depending on how often you upgrade. I will never buy one because of this.
They are so well made that they last forever, and this is the reason you won’t buy one???

The 11” iPad Pro will finally have a nice display! But the pricing sounds way off. I mean Samsung could sell $600 tablets with OLED displays five years ago.

A lot of Apple’s delay in technology is its inability to produce the best at scale. Apple should have went with OLED years ago in the 11” iPad Pro as it was such a poor experience compared to the 12.9” iPad Pro.
The pricing claims were way off for the latest iPhones too. I call BS. I expect stiff price increases, but not these insane rumored ones. I could easily be wrong. I am not an expert on Apple, nor do I have insider info. All I have is an active BS detector, and these claims do not pass the test. But, time will tell. I could be wrong.

The 2018 iPad Pro is still extremely fast (I own one). The main reason to switch would be for the OLED screen.
I have the 2021 iPP 12.9... although OLED screen is a nice addition, I'm looking at what other improvements Apple will make.

If they only add an OLED screen and an M3 chip then call it a day, I'll probably pass on it.

But why? The Macbook Pro already has unnecessarily good display for anything other than photo/video editing. You might like it more, but that's not a professional argument, but a personal preference, which shouldn't be enforced on other professionals who are not "content creators" or whatever. I'd already have to pay the GPU tax if I'd want to use more than one external displays, adding the oled tax just to use it 98% of the time in clamshell mode would corner Apple into "content creators" market.

Having a SOC was a good idea for consumer products, but hurts the professional ones. GPU performance and display quality should be configurable and NOT tied to CPU performance.

I'll be upgrading my 2018 iPad Pro, but primarily because I need more storage space, the battery life isn't anywhere close to what it used to be, and the screen doesn't display whites very well; they're more of a light yellow. Plenty of reasons to upgrade beyond OLED.

OLED for 11~32 inch monitors are extremely niche for a while. With LPTO, two stack tandem, and professional grade performances, it will be expensive which will increase the price by 3~5 times. OLED with those sizes is already too difficult to mass produce and yet there are so many high-end technology with low yields. Dont expect too much about it.

What would be really excellent is if the new iPad Pro OLED would be capable of running Mac OS. Would be a game changer. The iPad Pro while an outstanding device is still so limited for what you pay.
