True, but the expected M3 iPad Pros to be way faster than say A12X. That also supports hardware decoding of AV1, and its GPU for metal now has Mesh Shading and Ray Tracing. So at the very least web page scrolling should be noticeable smoothly when scrolling fast vertically.
Replacement cycles are largely arability.

Pointing out an often overlooked parameter.

For instance Windows EOL is 122 months & macOS EOL is 9.5 years for decades. So if your use case is consuming data & not playing AAA games then you can replace every decade.

Jump from a 2023 3nm M3 chip to a 2033 0.5nm M13 chip.

Even $300 would be extremely substantial. That’s a 30% increase to the base 12.9”
There's reports out there of the new iPad pro's starting at $1,500. They currently start at $800 ($799). And a ton of people take this rubbish as fact, and respond accordingly. But I can see $200 to $300 (max) happening. Maybe it won't. Maybe $100 or nothing. We shall see. But $700 on the $800 base ain't happening. I can't figure out why MacRumors gives that absurdity so much oxygen.

At some point I’m gonna need to replace my old 2020 iPP and while the new ones are nice I haven’t felt they really brought enough to the table to justify the expense. However, this new OLED version might.

WiFi 6E, better 5G chip, possible M3 variant, possible RAM increase, better battery efficiency and of course new screen technology.

This might be the time!

Looking to buy first iPad this year, but hesitating between the models, i like the promotion display, but i want something light, so that it’s easy to hold for hours

I dunno how you could go back to a smaller size especially with OLED, the 12.9 isnt that big anymore
I always use mine with the Magic Keyboard and it’s a bulky combo. I bought the 12.9 for years for the extra screen real estate when I was using it a lot for PowerPoints and notability. Those years are behind me and now I’d like a smaller iPad Pro. I love the Magic Keyboard as it adds a very useful dynamic to the iPad.

What would be really excellent is if the new iPad Pro OLED would be capable of running Mac OS. Would be a game changer. The iPad Pro while an outstanding device is still so limited for what you pay.
Or, they keep limiting iPadOS - to the point that Pro hardware is overkill - so Ipads don't cross lines with Macs.

Genuine question .... Is there anything that even makes the M1 iPad Pro break into a sweat? Probably even earlier ones?

Can't see me replacing my M1 12.9. The mini-LED screen is awesome, and I have an OLED iPhone and TVs.
I'm of the same thinking. My M1 Pro handles everything I'd throw at an iPad almost instantaneously.

And I'm still skeptical about OLED for a computer screen, so unless iPadOS 18 is going to be extra-taxing and/or revolutionary, I'm good to go still.

Me too. My 12.9 is gorgeous, and when it was my only device the extra size was necessary.

But to do just light, iPad-type stuff the 11 is the sweet spot for me, due to its weight and dimensions.

Much, much easier to hold.

OLED for 11~32 inch monitors are extremely niche for a while. With LPTO, two stack tandem, and professional grade performances, it will be expensive which will increase the price by 3~5 times. OLED with those sizes is already too difficult to mass produce and yet there are so many high-end technology with low yields. Dont expect too much about it.
Fair enough - I’m still going to hope, irrational as it may be lol

No way. The experience would mimic Windows tablets: It SUCKS.

An OS designed for a mouse is NOT a good experience on a touch-based device.

The real solution is for Apple to give iPadOS more Mac-like features, separating it further and further from iOS (mobile).

Sadly, Stage Manager was a poor attempt at this.

I'm not even sure that doing a Samsung Dex-like, macOS-when-docked thing would be feasible.

I'd say if anyone wants a Mac, just get one. An iPad is for doing "iPad things", in an "iPad-kind-of-way".

Apple is doing worse now. iPad series are seriously limited and yet, too many products. Since iPadOS and iPad itself are just bigger version of iPhone, I dont see the point of keeping multiple products while calming that iPad can replace computer or PC. Just kill most of iPad and focus on Mac instead.

A truly "magic" keyboard would be one that you don't have to replace every time they change the format slightly. They're not cheap and they continue to work longer than the ipad depending on how often you upgrade. I will never buy one because of this.
Hopefully the iPad's form factor won't change much, aside from getting thinner and/or getting smaller bezels.

The design is already pretty mature.

Don’t forget the magic keyboard that already puts this over the top of a fancy MacBook Air or Pro At an extra $300 depending on the size. I got an iPad Pro 12.9” to replace my old kindle fire as a e-reader but damn, I might as well switch back to the kindle at the prices they want to charge us for the iPad pros if the rumors are true.

With an original iPad Pro 12.9 still working it’s definitely time to upgrade to the OLED iPad Pro 13”… 😉

Sorry. I just wanted to make clear that I'm writing something about that file system.

I agree that you can get most things done in the Files app. My critique is that many file operations are very cumbersome, and sometimes unreliable. I frequently have issues with third party file providers for example.

No problem.
I only work with iCloud Drive and it is perfectly integrated.

No real issues performance-wise, but my battery life has been slowly diminishing over the past few years with app and OS updates (even accounting for physical battery degradation, which mine is at 96%). Often my battery would run out at after 4-5 hours these days when I could get 6-7 at launch. I would imagine the M3 would be quite a bit more efficient doing the same heavier tasks. If the trade-in/eBay value is right, I may look at upgrading since I mostly use it on the go with Stage Manager for work.

If you haven't tried Stage Manager after iOS 17, I would recommend trying it again. I turned it off completely last year on 16 because of the bugs and how the windowing worked but imo it works pretty well now.

Lucky me, I’m not shy to say no to these prices.

1) there is zero reasons to switch from mini LED to allegedly much more expensive OLED.
2) there is zero reasons to change the size from 12.9 inches to 13 inches (only to have you purchase a new magic keyboard that fits the new size).
Gotta agree with this, is an OLED iPad really going to be that much better than an MiniLED one?
I find it great already, even always there on Sidecar when working on the desktop because I can trust the colors and calibration of it when looking/validating images… and all the complaints about them never bothered me.

My 2018 12.9 IPP has plenty of storage...battery is starting to need more frequent charges, but until iPadOS has some useful features added (like user accounts and better multi-tasking window handling), I'll stick with it a while longer.
Agreed. They would have to add something fairly crazy beyond just OLED for me to upgrade my 2018 12.9" Ipad Pro...like add MacOS???? :D

Hopefully it will not be having the rumoured sky high prices. Would like to see StandBy on iPad. Expecting to see a new Pencil too
