Go with the Air. It should have an M2 in it and be available in two sizes.
I couldn't go with the Air, purely because I couldn't drop Pro Motion and true quad speakers. That with mini-LED on the 12.9 are the main reasons I'm on the 12.9 Pro M1

One advantage is thinness, from what has been reported so far. Conventional OLED panels use two glass substrates, one of which is replaced with TFE in those hybrid OLED panels.
Doesn't seem like a good reason to raise the prices to such ridiculous levels because of these "more expensive" panels. My Samsung Tab S8 is thin enough for me.

And yet, we know many of the Apple faithful will rush to buy the new iPad Pros regardless of price. If that makes them happy, fine. But I won’t buy above the iPad Air level if the rumored prices turn out to be true. BTW, I fully expect the prices for the Airs to inflate a bit, too.

If you haven't tried Stage Manager after iOS 17, I would recommend trying it again. I turned it off completely last year on 16 because of the bugs and how the windowing worked but imo it works pretty well now.
If my iPad was my only device I would.

But I took my own advice and bought a 13" MBA M2, so I use that for when I need to do "windowed", "real" computer stuff.

I was already proficient with my iPad's multitasking prior to Stage Manager, so I don't really need it.

A little off-topic question🙂
Currently using a iPad Pro 11 2020 but i have a question.
Can you say that an iPad Pro 2020 is actually a iPad Pro 2018 in performance?

I meen, besides the camera and storage (for base), its the same cpu. A12.
The only difference is 2 Gb Ram and 1 extra gpu core.
Can that 2 Gb extra ram and 1 gpu core do so much more in performance?

Also thinking of OS updates.
One can only speculate, but will Apple stop updates for both 2018 and 2020 at the same time?

They are so well made that they last forever, and this is the reason you won’t buy one???
The point was, they do last forever. But iPads do not last forever, so a new iPad renders said forever keypad completely useless. Therefore they last as long as your iPad does basically. I want a keyboard that fits the next iPads also.

I have the 2022 iPad Pro, I forget which chip it is but I'm guessing it's the M1. I have been debating whether to upgrade to the newer OLED versions. I'm honestly leaning towards holding onto the M1 iPad bc I don't really watch anything on it other than for the occasional YouTube video, and I consider the iPad I have to have very good graphics quality. I think if I had the mini-LED 12.9" iPad I would definitely not upgrade. My thinking could change if Apple decides to put in some new feature in the new iPad, which I guess is a big possibility.

More and more questionable 'improvement' being marketed as 'mass consumer' where it is really only suitable for niches like REAL creatives ..., and Booboisie Conspicuous Consumption ...

Oh well, more vastly over-powered 'refurbished' products for those of us who refuse to have Apple Marketing tell us what we 'need' at prices that just inflate shareholders dividends.

Hey, Apple, where's that real breakthrough, the 2-in-1 Apple MacAir for the REAL consumers? You know, a NEW product for REAL consumers that is sold based on innovation for the 'mass' market, not just more Conspicuous Consumption headphones and Fake Reality Eye Plumbing.

Absolutely. The regular multitasking is much better for home use and media consumption.

Put off the M2 for Christmas to get the M3. Upgrading from an A10X iPad Pro that is showing its age in battery, loads, no 5G, slower WiFi compared to everything else I have etc.

7 years it has been the best hardware I’ve ever owned.

No way. The experience would mimic Windows tablets: It SUCKS.

An OS designed for a mouse is NOT a good experience on a touch-based device.

The real solution is for Apple to give iPadOS more Mac-like features, separating it further and further from iOS (mobile).

Sadly, Stage Manager was a poor attempt at this.

I'm not even sure that doing a Samsung Dex-like, macOS-when-docked thing would be feasible.

I'd say if anyone wants a Mac, just get one. An iPad is for doing "iPad things", in an "iPad-kind-of-way".
Says who. You? Because you have the same needs as everyone purchasing an iPad?

Until we start saying "no" to ridiculous prices, they will keep raising prices. 120Hz displays are nothing new and so hopefully they will find their way to the Air models as that's really all I would want. Heck, even my Samsung Tab S8 has a 120Hz panel!

I hope they allow for OLED to be applied to smaller iPad mini 7 if its rumors about being updated about the same time is true. I like its size for casual use vs a larger Air.
