I still can't get my head around the fact they are buying parts from a competitor (a massive company with lots of divisions and territories of course) and trying to incorporate new features that might make a) more preferable to b). At this point, I guess they have both decided 'we are IOS' and 'we are Android' and to accept that going forward. No longer really in competition, the competitition is IOS vs Android and Samsung accept they don't have the OS to compete on that front. So the people saying Samsung or Iphone are looking at it wrong.

Edge to edge glass with no bezel or home button would be awesome.

"Starting at only $2000" - Apple

It looks like the iPhone 8 will have everything.
I wanna know if it can fetch my coffe.

I'll believe it when I see it. Fully expecting Apple to release some garbage iPhone 7 rehash next year and let absolutely everybody down, including all analysts and tech journalists everywhere. They'll be a laughing stock.

plastic screen? new touch technology?
I dont think this is accurate at all. What can be made better for the touch tech we have now? Its already inegrated as well so no need for a new tech. I don't think there are improvements to be made on the "touch" imput.

Is this is true I think Apple will do it differently, lets not forget Apple rarely does things first, but they do wait and do them very well, usually by doing them their own way. If they do this I will buy one, it will be interesting to see, with next year being the 10th anniversary of the iPhone I think Apple will want to do something special.

But, will it be thin enough? The are just ll too thick now.
Agreed.

If they go with a magnetic induction charger like the Apple Watch and a completely sealed design, the Lightning port can join the headphone port on the ash heap of history.

Whenever I see someone with an Samsung Edge, it kind of looks weird to see the display extend around the bezel. Seems to have no purpose at all? It appears to exists only because it was rumoured that Apple was working on curved glass and Samsung wanted to be first? Funny thing is, Apple's curved class only ended up at their new campus..

So if rumors are true, chances of actually getting this "premium" model iPhone with OLED is not guaranteed next Fall. What would be worse is if Apple knee-jerk reacts to folks jumping to Samsung and designs it to look even remotely close to the Galaxy Edge (awful looking phone, internal specs aside). All I want is for Apple to remove the home button and reduce the size of the top and bottom bezels. While Samsung's curved screen is gimmicky IMO, let's see Johny at least put some purpose behind it if it does make its way to the iPhone 8. Otherwise what's the point?

I'm in.
My doubts over possibly 'jumping ship' have vanished if this article is correct.
I wont be upgrading straight away as I will want a screen protector and backing case.
OLED - curved display - zero bazel - revamped home button - ideally 5" but not a deal breaker 4.7" would be fine.
Wireless charging - cherry on the cake.
Perfect for me.

Doubt we see a redesign in 2017. All this will get "delayed" as usual. Expect an iphone 7S.
If true, Apple will initially take a beating in the press and with Wall Street. (Annnnnd they'll still sell millions of 7S units.)

I like the idea of an all glass iPhone as much as the next person. But I do think getting rid of them is a slippery slope.

For example I think the xps is ugly as hell when looking at the screen and that camera positioning is terrible. I would pick the mbp Bezels any day. Currently, the iPhone bezels don't bother me but when I see an iPhone 4, it makes me sad.
I hope Apple can find a reasonable compromise.
No need to get rid of the bezels, but they can be greatly reduced. Especially the top and bottom ones if the home button is removed and integrated into the display panel instead, as some rumors have suggested. Doing so would make for a smaller phone profile without compromising screen size.

Enjoy paying extra for curved glass and additional reflections!

I'll be right with flat glass ceramic thanks.

I don't like the idea of limiting new features and inventions to an even higher end iPhone... They should be available to all iPhone models. We don't need a 4th remodel of the iPhone 6 next year
Oh, but surely Apple needs a "iPhone Pro" line to keep up with the iPads and Macs! If true, can't wait to see the opening price point for this model next year.

I keep failing to reconcile the weirdness of Samsung being a major supplier to Apple for the product line over which they're at open war. No explanation of subdivision compartmentalization, agreement structures, or privacy clauses will make that relationship seem less weird.

Am I the only one who is worried about the upcoming fragmentation? They say it's a Premium iPhone. I thought we already have premium with premium prices? I have no doubt that this version will cost at least 1000$ which will be a ridiculous price.

Sad to see ongoing fragmentation of their products.
I'm with you but they keep selling, even in a down year for iPhone. A premium priced iPhone Pro, even with a potentially constrained supply of 100mm units, will most likely still sell out next year.

However much I like the idea of a higher resolution screen, I've yet to use a phone with a colour accurate OLED, and I've owned the Pixel XL, Samsung 7 edge and Huawei mate 8. They are all too oversaturated with either a green or blue bias to the white balance and as a photographer colour accuracy is far more important than a few more pixels. Currently using a 7 plus and to me that is by far the best screen out there. I truly hope that Apple manages to make OLED tech better and that the colour issues can be solved in software and is not a hardware problem. I personally think colour problems is the main reason Apple hasn't already changed to OLED, that and the fact that 401px is more than enough...

I know people want a new design but remember we can't have an innovative breakthrough design every year. The current design is very good for what it does...

Lets not change just for the sake of change, but let change be to give a better user experience.

Make no mistake: this is Apple blatantly following Samsung, but that’s no bad thing. If something’s a good idea or looks good then it’s fair game

A lot of these sources come from the supply chain. It's quite possible Apple has an iPhone 8 with a bezel free OLED display, wireless charging etc but because their suppliers are having trouble ramping up production for launch, Apple have also got an iPhone 7S ready, just in case they have nothing at all to show.

If you got whispers from the supply chain, you might interpret it as Apple releasing both.

All about increasing the average selling price, gotta increase those ASPs. Tim Cooks answer to dwindling hardware sales, put the prices up.

And people say he isn't a visionary /s

The material doesn't bother me at all as I aways use a MediaDevil screen protector on my iPhones. I pop a new one on every 6 months
Makes the phone like new.

- many folks seem to have swapped to glass screen protectors now so I guess the glass 'feel' is still an option for those that want glass.
