I still can't get my head around the fact they are buying parts from a competitor (a massive company with lots of divisions and territories of course) and trying to incorporate new features that might make a) more preferable to b). At this point, I guess they have both decided 'we are IOS' and 'we are Android' and to accept that going forward. No longer really in competition, the competitition is IOS vs Android and Samsung accept they don't have the OS to compete on that front. So the people saying Samsung or Iphone are looking at it wrong.
Did you not realize Samsung has been an Apple supplier for a very, very, very long time? Not only Apple, but they supply multiple phone and tablet vendors. Unlike fans, Apple can separate business from emotional attachments. Businesses want to generate profits. If their competitors provide the best avenue for profit generation, so be it. They also compete with LG, Sharp, and Sony. All of which are Apple suppliers. It's just bidness.

I keep failing to reconcile the weirdness of Samsung being a major supplier to Apple for the product line over which they're at open war. No explanation of subdivision compartmentalization, agreement structures, or privacy clauses will make that relationship seem less weird.

Simple really: Apple wants a large quantity of quality parts at the lowest price. While they may want to get that combination from anyone NOT named Samsung, Samsung is the ONE that can actually deliver. LG, Sharp, etc are always in discussions about parts like screens but they also always seem to have trouble with quantity, quality and/or price. So Samsung keeps winning the business. One might say that since Apple doesn't actually make much of the raw hardware, they need Samsung more than Samsung needs Apple.

Even with our collective hate(?) of Samsung, when Apple has split out the orders for parts like screens or SSDs, etc between Samsung and others, "we" seem to notice some difference in quality and then are generally "hoping I get the Samsung one" in the inevitable exchange. Presumably when it comes down to ourselves, we want the (better) Samsung screen/SSD/etc too... even if we can otherwise chime in on calling them crooks, copycats, Samesung and on and on in forum posts.

This is just a bunch of rumours, nothing else..
But if they (whoever they are...) generate enough then some will be right.
All the time, Samsung will be developing their next phones taking those rumours and deciding which will work and which won't. Then they'll take a punt and rush something out so that they and crow 'Apple is copying us'.

I just wish that Apple could make a device and release it without all this leaking and fakery.

The home button is being integrated with touch screen technology not replaced with a 'fake'. This year's model is a step closer.

Removing the switches and buttons IS logical. It will improve the water resistance. We might see this phone advertised as being able to capture photos under water.

Underwater photos would be a reason to keep a physical button, since capacitive touch doesn't work when wet.

Whenever I see someone with an Samsung Edge, it kind of looks weird to see the display extend around the bezel. Seems to have no purpose at all? It appears to exists only because it was rumoured that Apple was working on curved glass and Samsung wanted to be first? Funny thing is, Apple's curved class only ended up at their new campus..

Yes, and it looks downright stupid in a case.

I love how they take gs8 rumors and spin them as iPhone 8 specs.all these specs were rumors of the gs8.

the screen having its sensors built into it are gs8 rumors, the ability to scan your fingerprint on screen is a gs8 rumors, foldable display is a gs8 rumors

a these specs talked about in this stupid article are spec rumors that have been released about the gs8 weeks ago

you guys spin this **** all the time.

My personal take is despite apple saying they are so secretive many of the 'leaks' are apples PR machine, wetting the consumers appetite and keeping the brand name in the news.

The awful rag The Daily Express with 400k readership comes up on google 'news' with a simple 'iphone wireless' search

http://www.express.co.uk/life-style...3838/Apple-iPhone-8-Wireless-Charging-Confirm

I think its often the apple 'spin' machine.

Disclaimer: I own a 2016 mbp with the touch bar and think it's amazing.

But I'm pretty worried about the iPhone anniversary. It seems like Apple is throwing a shot in the dark and seeing what sticks.
It might be that Apple is trying to fake out the competition(copyists) so that what Apple comes out with is truly unique?
If Apple has 10 different prototypes how will they know what to copy :)

You guys who? Nice hyperbole. These specs have been talked about ever since the 6s was announced. Something you guys don't understand.

The material doesn't bother me at all as I aways use a MediaDevil screen protector on my iPhones. I pop a new one on every 6 months
Makes the phone like new.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Protector-...482066128&sr=8-1&keywords=mediadevil+iphone+6
- many folks seem to have swapped to glass screen protectors now so I guess the glass 'feel' is still an option for those that want glass.
Nah, roam free, friend! No screen protector necessary. With ceramic glass, it's likely you wouldn't need the added protection. The material matters. Ceramic glass all the way!

With one billion devices out there, the brand is pretty solidly in people's eyes.

I grow more and more nervous every month that the only way to get the anniversary iPhone and all of the fabulous tech inside of it, is to switch to the larger iPhone.

I understand size constraints with some of the hardware features, but the actual tech like OLED, processors, and cellular modems should be available to all of us that don't want to carry around a device as large as the "Plus" series.

Does make it harder to keep Samsung from copying or even one upping them.
But they still don't have IOS which will keep me from ever buying a Samsung.

We are talking iPhones not iOS devices.

Assuming the very maximum 2.5B smartphone in the world (I believe this to be more 2B)
But based on 2.5B and iPhone's market share of 14.6% approx

http://iphone.appleinsider.com/arti...marketshare-dropping-beyond-seasonal-averages

I get that to 365M but lets call it 500M as the 14.6% was previously higher.

Thats half your 1B which I think you are referring to the recent 1Bth iphone sold https://www.macrumors.com/2016/07/27/apple-has-sold-1-billion-iphones/ NINE years since Steve launched the iPhone in 2007.

.....

Also any large brand needs constant FREE PR to survive.

Just like they did with the new MacBook Pro's

Yes, and it looks downright stupid in a case.

I'm not sure if that's true about not being able to use capacitive touch underwater. But even if it was, You could use the iphones physical buttons to take a picture.
[doublepost=1482069772][/doublepost]All this speculation is fun...but it's still too early in the upgrade cycle to know anything for certain.

I only ready up to maybe 10 posts in this thread before I responded.maybe you should go read it from the beginning.

post 3 and 7 is when I posted my response.i don't need to read the rest.samsung owns and invented the curved OLED technology.they have shown off curved OLED before the god damned iPhone 5 at CES

one guy said Samsung copied curved glass because it was what apple used in a building.lmfao you people are delusional.go on YouTube and see how far back Samsung showed off its curved flexible OLED displays

here you go i7guy how about showing you physically working curved OLED that Samsung showed off 6 years ago.do you think they did this because of a 6s rumor still?

Make no mistake: this is Apple blatantly following Samsung, but that’s no bad thing. If something’s a good idea or looks good then it’s fair game

Quite the contrary, Apples execution of a curved display will probably be more like the Mi. Samsungs version of curved displays is gimmickey.

Seems it will be a nice phone, but at what price?

Since Apple is not updating their Macs, I will have replaced my aging computers with a different brand by the time these phones come out. My phone will obviously NOT be an iPhone as my choice for phone is the same as my Computers.
