An unbelievably moronic request on Samsung's part! It's going to have the exact opposite effect of what Samsung wants.

1) I predict we'll see more Apple logos than ever!

2) More viewers than ever will be LOOKING for Apple logos!

This is TERRIFIC advertising for Apple! Thank you, Samsung!

(What a bunch of morons!)

Google spends money in billions, Apple spends pocket change in comparison to the pile they have hoarded.

Which is my point too. Google had nearly $60 billion in cash/equivalents as of the end of 2013. That's with spending money in the billions. Google could easily afford some kind of distribution to shareholders but they don't.

Did you think they would do that for free? Alternatively, wouldn't you think that working hard to be the best in your sport, only to be told by rich, fat, old men and a huge company what to do, and threatened that all your hard work would be for nought if you don't do as the rich, fat, old men and the huge Korean company tell you, wouldn't make one rebellious?

I doubt it, and even if they were rebellious I don't think they would be it on behalf of another big corporation filled with rich, fat, old men.

The athletes know that the only reason there is money in sports is because of sponsors and advertisers. Sports don't produce anything and all the money the athletes make come from those sponsors and advertisers that enable the competitions that the athletes work hard to compete i.

I'm pretty sure the athletes understand that the sponsors have some conditions, it's not exactly pro-bono.

or if samsung was smart they would give out phones for the athletes as gifts

Is it really too much to ask that you actually read more than the headline of the article before you comment on it?

How about the athletes village full of wild dogs, the water supply not being safe to drink. The almost certainty of a terrorist attack?

All you lot care about is a pathetic little logo on a bunch of toys.

I hope no-one on these forum ever gets into a position of influence or power.
A) Your list of concerns is just daily life for a lot of people. You lot only seem to care when your Olympic athletes are involved.

B) I can think of a list much worse than yours. If you think stray dogs and tainted water are the worst that can happen, I hope you never get into a position of power.

C) Must we discuss nothing else?

This is foolish—I'm a loyal Android user, but nevertheless still bummed that the platform is polluted with this nonsense :( Samsung needs to go away.

Bravo! And, BTW, Samsung puts pollution crapware on its phones too!

But in Apple's lawsuit against Samsung they claimed that the devices were so similar that they would cause customer confusion. So, which is it?

Don't ask me, it's not my lawsuit. But that one was about the iPad, not the iPhone, where the difference in looks is much bigger.

I can see making the request for things like clothing but it seems impractical for things like devices. The athletes often visibly have out cameras, in the past have they cracked down if one of them wasn't a sponsor brand?

or if samsung was smart they would give out phones for the athletes as gifts

If you read the article, they are. Whether people use the ones in the gift bags as opposed to what they already own remains to be seen.

I suspect that athletes who have endorsement contacts will toe the line, but for any of the others it's hard to imagine them caring much.

cover the apple

I hope someone, soon, brings suit against Samsung based on the First Amendment.

Sounds about right for Android; they have to bribe and beg for people to use their devices just to get anybody to buy them.

Really? You don't see Coke asking people to cover up Pepsi bottles at events like the Superbowl.

Everyone rushing to give their opinion without reading the article. It says they have been asked not to display Apple devices in the parade of Athletes. This has nothing to do with John Public watching the events only the Athletes.

All the Athletes understand the Rules and they play by the rules. Again here is an example from the last Olympics when an Athlete broke the rules and was punished.

Like most you did not read the article. Every Athlete gets a "Note 3" In their Goody bag.

Maybe we'll see pics of the Note3 in trash cans, toilets, etc.. World class athletes don't appreciate this big brother crap. Some great backfire potential here?

So does Apple, I have the POS called News Stand and Game Center on my iPad that I'm not even allowed to remove.

I hope someone, soon, brings suit against Samsung based on the First Amendment.

The first amendment applies neither in South Korea nor in Russia, and this isn't a violation since it's entirely voluntary to participate.

Maybe not

Uh. Where on earth did you get the idea that the Olympics represent freedom? You realize that China, and North Korea have Olympians too right?

They might not represent freedom, but they sure as shoot represent good sportsmanship and doing your individual, team and national best... both of which this act is in violation.

Like most you did not read the article. Every Athlete gets a "Note 3" In their Goody bag.

I guess that's what you do when you can't actually sell the phones you shoved into the sales channel...

Olympics sponsor Samsung is reportedly dropping Galaxy Note 3 smartphones in athletes' goodie-bags, though the gift comes with a catch: a supposed ban on any other device branding, iPhone or otherwise, during the opening ceremony.

Waaaaaawwwww I won't complain. Say no more.

Yeah, fanboyism is rampant in this thread.

C'mon guys, we've all seen the TV shows and movies where the actor is clearing using an Apple product but the Apple logo is either covered up or edited out.

For that matter, other company logos too, not just Apple. Ever seen the villain drive a Ford SUV with a nondescript oval where the logo should be? Or a Toyota vehicle with no badge visible? On Stargate Atlantis they used what look like Dell Latitude D800 series laptops everywhere, but the rear panel is conveniently covered with an Atlantis crest where the Dell logo should be.

What if it was Apple that had sponsored the Olympics and decreed "no Samsung logos visible please"? The tone in this thread would be far, far different.

You're right, instead of just being vocal the people in thread would screaming in outrage against Apple. I don't know why you would think people would support Apple doing this? Every time Apple does something slightly in a negative manner people on MR are just begging to blast Apple so maybe it's you that needs to come to reality rather than calling people Fanboys. It's really too bad that MR has taken away the vote down button. Why oh Why?

Samsung is showing a little fear, knowing the Apple logo on personal device will out shine Samson's :p

Too bad Samsung.

They should've dropped iphone and iPad cases in their bags with samsung logos on them. That would've had a better chance of being used than a note.

For all of you bashing Samsung, you need to read the article more closely. The Olympic Committee asked this and it has always been done.

I'm not a Samsung fan (the company, obviously their components are great) but it's silly to make this sound like Samsung had anything to do with this.

And it's silly for you to believe that Samsung had nothing to do with it.

On a different note I wonder if the athletes came in with HTC Phones or the Nokia Lumina would the request be made to have them cover it up?
From so many Android lovers out here I was under the impression that Apple's phones were the underdog so that shouldn't be an issue, but I guess that was hyperbole.

pretty ridiculous, be it samsung or anyone else. phones are very much personal items, stuffed with favorite music, family photos, sms and mail correspondence, tactical notes, etc. why would an athlete waste time transferring all that and at the same time getting to learn a new os? my guess is they have other priorities.

Why do you think McDonalds outlets are built in the athletes village'? Because they pay to have priority over others.

but do they force the athletes to only eat from their menu? same thing.

Imagine what a reading teacher would think while reading some of these posts! People commenting on an article and totally missing what it actually said.
