Ah, yay. My MacBook Air is finally in the UPS system. Apparently it took Amazon 31 hours to actually get the box out the door to UPS.
So, hopefullllllllllllly tomorrow.

Ok so I was wrong. I have a Samsung LCD and three dead pixels, one of which is not as bad as the other two.
Do I take a chance at getting the screen replaced and risk getting a Toshiba?
Would you rather have 3 dead pixels that you'll notice all the time, or a Toshiba SSD that you'll notice only whenever you fire up a benchmark and run tests?
My replacement has arrived with LG screen a Samsung SSD. The original has both Samsung. Wondering if I should keep the orignal with the dead pixel or go with the LG Screen? To me the Samsung seems clearer. However the LG appears to have no dead pixels, but Samsung screen seems to be brighter.
Sorry I mistyped my post, I meant "risk getting an LG screen."Would you rather have 3 dead pixels that you'll notice all the time, or a Toshiba SSD that you'll notice only whenever you fire up a benchmark and run tests?

I would keep the LG over anything with a dead pixel: I'd always notice the dead pixel.
Consider trying to calibrate the screen first via the LG calibration thread and see how you like it before you decide whether or not to keep the LG or go with the Samsung/Dead Pixel. I got the LG screen too, and I thought it looked somewhat dull/yellow when I first started up. But then I loaded up a different color profile and quite like how it looks now.
Unfortunately I don't have a Samsung to compare against, but once I removed the yellow cast in the color profile that it came with, I decided I like the LG fine.
Also, my LG screen has no dead pixels and works well.
I've heard a lot of Samsungs ship with a yellow-cast to their screens too. And of course how it looks is dependent on lighting and the environment of the individual user. Honestly, from what I've read the screens sound pretty similar...with the Samsung possibly being a bit more prone to dead pixels. To me, the Samsung has more hype as well. Might be a brand-based thing, I'm not sure. I know if I compare brand-to-brand based on their reputation with LCD TVs etc, I'd prefer a Samsung screen too. But more than all of that, I want a screen that works and looks good, and my LG does that just fine.
If you do calibrate the screen, I'd love to hear your results and if it got close to the level of clarity/brightness that the Samsung has. I'm a designer by trade so I'm interested in getting the best color display possible. Thanks!
Which profile did you use?
It's only a single dead pixel, located towards the top and only noticeable on something red. Maybe it's the brands that I'm concerned over. Me personally I wouldnt purchase a LG tv, but do own a Samsung one.
I have a Samsung TV, too that I greatly preferred over the competing LG models, but from everything that I've read here, the differences in the two MBA panels are very subjective with the LG being better in some measures and the Samsung in others. If the dead pixel doesn't bother you and you like the Sammy better, then I guess the Samsung is for youi.![]()
Did anyone else's order ship via USPS? So annoying because USPS tracking is garbage.

Does USPS even offer one day shipping? I think that the super saver shipping is USPS.
Nevermind - I just figured out that even though Amazon says "USPS", it's actually being shipped using Fedex Smartpost, but final delivery will be by USPS. Confusing. Tracking via Fedex works fine.

Super saver - that's me!

Decided to ship back the one with the dead pixel. I was able to get the LG calibrated to where I'm happy with it. Actually appears to be more on the cooler side than the Samsung which tends to push more yellow and be warmer. No dead pixels is better than one with. Plus the LG has even backlighting including around the edges. So overall I'm good to go. Still the same Samsung SSD. It's just a hassle playing the lottery panel game.
