Ah, yay. My MacBook Air is finally in the UPS system. Apparently it took Amazon 31 hours to actually get the box out the door to UPS.

So, hopefullllllllllllly tomorrow.

I intercepted my 1.7/256 at 11am and got to work setting it up. I got Samsung/Samsung, good things do come to those who wait!

Negative. My 1.5TB external won't mount and I have to use recovery tools to get iPhoto, movies and music hopefully.

Ok so I was wrong. I have a Samsung LCD and three dead pixels, one of which is not as bad as the other two.

Do I take a chance at getting the screen replaced and risk getting a Toshiba?

Would you rather have 3 dead pixels that you'll notice all the time, or a Toshiba SSD that you'll notice only whenever you fire up a benchmark and run tests?

My replacement has arrived with LG screen a Samsung SSD. The original has both Samsung. Wondering if I should keep the orignal with the dead pixel or go with the LG Screen? To me the Samsung seems clearer. However the LG appears to have no dead pixels, but Samsung screen seems to be brighter.

NOW what will I wait on? :)

My long national MacBook Air nightmare is over! My MBA 13/256 (ordered 8/8) finally arrived today. LG display and Samsung SSD, which I believe is what I want, right? :)

Installing software on it now. Wow, did MS Office install fast to the SSD!

I think I could get used to "natural" scrolling on the touchpad, but not on my mouse wheel! (Using an MS Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000) Gonna have to find that switch.

Consider trying to calibrate the screen first via the LG calibration thread and see how you like it before you decide whether or not to keep the LG or go with the Samsung/Dead Pixel. I got the LG screen too, and I thought it looked somewhat dull/yellow when I first started up. But then I loaded up a different color profile and quite like how it looks now.

Unfortunately I don't have a Samsung to compare against, but once I removed the yellow cast in the color profile that it came with, I decided I like the LG fine.

Also, my LG screen has no dead pixels and works well.

I've heard a lot of Samsungs ship with a yellow-cast to their screens too. And of course how it looks is dependent on lighting and the environment of the individual user. Honestly, from what I've read the screens sound pretty similar...with the Samsung possibly being a bit more prone to dead pixels. To me, the Samsung has more hype as well. Might be a brand-based thing, I'm not sure. I know if I compare brand-to-brand based on their reputation with LCD TVs etc, I'd prefer a Samsung screen too. But more than all of that, I want a screen that works and looks good, and my LG does that just fine.

If you do calibrate the screen, I'd love to hear your results and if it got close to the level of clarity/brightness that the Samsung has. I'm a designer by trade so I'm interested in getting the best color display possible. Thanks!

Sorry I mistyped my post, I meant "risk getting an LG screen."

I don't notice the pixels most of the time unless I'm looking in the exact direction and they aren't visible with all colors either. On the other hand, they wouldn't be replacing the entire computer, just the screen, so there is no risk of getting a Toshiba SSD, just LG screen.

How did you guys get whole new replacement computer? Apple told me no since I bought it from Amazon.

I would keep the LG over anything with a dead pixel: I'd always notice the dead pixel.

It's only a single dead pixel, located towards the top and only noticeable on something red. Maybe it's the brands that I'm concerned over. Me personally I wouldnt purchase a LG tv, but do own a Samsung one.

Which profile did you use?

I'm surprised to hear that I'm not supposed to like my LG display. After setting up my MacBook Air today, I assumed the LG had to be the good one. At full brightness it's brighter than I'm comfortable using anyway, colors are great, text is super-crisp...

SO glad Amazon had this sale. Otherwise I'd never have decided to try the MacBook Air. What a sweet machine. So far my only gripes are the absurd Lion scrolling I had to disable (Really? Reversing the mouse scroll wheel? Uh, no) and the fact that the lower left corner gets hot and the fan gets loud when doing processor-intensive stuff. But I don't expect to be doing a lot of video transcoding with the MBA in my lap.

I am would like to hear which display is better at low brightness if anyone knows something.

My first post from my MBA..

Received it yesterday at 2 pm but did not open the box until 9 pm today...loving every bit of it

I only tried 2 in that thread....LG Calibrated and Spyder2Express. I couldn't tell much of a difference with the LG Calibrated file, but I did notice a difference with Spyder2Express. I like it, but of course YMMV. I can't really give a good enough opinion of which is the best because I didn't try them all.

I have a Samsung TV, too that I greatly preferred over the competing LG models, but from everything that I've read here, the differences in the two MBA panels are very subjective with the LG being better in some measures and the Samsung in others. If the dead pixel doesn't bother you and you like the Sammy better, then I guess the Samsung is for youi. :)

Did anyone else's order ship via USPS? So annoying because USPS tracking is garbage.

Nevermind - I just figured out that even though Amazon says "USPS", it's actually being shipped using Fedex Smartpost, but final delivery will be by USPS. Confusing. Tracking via Fedex works fine.

Does USPS even offer one day shipping? I think that the super saver shipping is USPS.

Super saver - that's me!

I'm in the same boat. Counting down the days...

Decided to ship back the one with the dead pixel. I was able to get the LG calibrated to where I'm happy with it. Actually appears to be more on the cooler side than the Samsung which tends to push more yellow and be warmer. No dead pixels is better than one with. Plus the LG has even backlighting including around the edges. So overall I'm good to go. Still the same Samsung SSD. It's just a hassle playing the lottery panel game.

New KSO Promo

Looks like Amazon Local is coming to KSO. I live a couple blocks from a busy downtown district so hoping some good restaurant deals are forthcoming

Excellent! :)

Yeah, I didn't like the LG panel until I adjusted it a little bit, then I realized that they probably just made the default settings for one panel and it needed to be calibrated differently for the LG. Looks really nice now.
