Surprised though as this morning i got there mail stating the item 11/128/4GB was backordered.

13 Order Status

that's just the estimate they use when they're not sure when the next shipment is arriving.

I ordered mine on 8/9 its the i5/4/256 model and my status says this also. Just that they will send an email when available.

Also, I spoke with Amazon CS and they said they have no clue when it would be in stock. Guy said it could be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to more. Hoping for the best, I dont want a new model to be released before I get this one LOL. :D

I just got my update email from Amazon. I placed order on August 7th.

Hello,

We have good news! We're able to get this part of your order to you faster than we originally promised:

"Apple MacBook Air MC969LL/A 11.6-Inch Laptop (NEWEST VERSION)"
Previous estimated arrival date: August 23 2011 - August 30 2011
New estimated arrival date: August 16 2011

Since the deal for MBA is gone, I dig up my kindle special offer email to look at the selected laptop, the MBA are still there. I tried to purchase and it won't allow me to use the code. So I called up Amazon and they did it for me. I ended up getting the 13/256 for $1275. Could have saved $30 if I bought it yesterday.

That's what I did. Argued about it for 3 hours with a bunch of different reps. Finally one helped me.

Also, did you have to us ethe code, because I don't think they actually need it. My rep just calculated 20% with their computer and subtracted it from the order.

Sounds like people are still able to get it to work with the help of Amazon CSR's. The question is: will it still work if I get the code from ebay and dont have a kindle? I am wondering if they are being strict about people not having a kindle associated with their amazon account. Anyone get this to work recently who doesn't have a kindle?

doesn't matter if there's a kindle attached

sharing my experience

i'm generally a lurker here on macrumors, but had to chime into this thread which i've been following eagerly all week.

First--thanks to the OP for posting this deal. I had ordered a new macbook air from Apple on Saturday night and ended up canceling the order on sunday morning when i saw this deal. went out and bought my KSO at Target & promptly ordered the 11/4/128 using my amazon visa including redeeming my rewards points (racking up more points in the process)...for a total of $858. I can't believe I was able to save nearly $400! :)

Anyway, I'm a prime member, but chose 2 day shipping at checkout because with a delivery estimate of Aug. 31-Sept 16, I thought, oh what's an extra day when it's clearly not even in stock to ship right away. Anyway, now that the 11/4/128 is back "in stock", I just initiated a chat to ask if mine might come sooner. CSR "Shanu" immediately changed the shipping status from 2day to 1day shipping at no extra charge and now my little dream machine will arrive on Monday, Aug. 15. That is seriously outstanding service from Amazon!!! :D

Now, I have no idea whether I got a little extra special treatment due to the fact that I've been a prime member since the program began, maintain an amazon visa, and shop amazon regularly, but it's worth a shot to inquire if you ordered the 11/4/128. ;)

cheers, folks!

So you don't think it would be such a bad idea to go ahead and buy a code off ebay and try to work my magic with a csr?

Now that I realized I could just go and look at the amazon T&C:

You must have a Kindle with Special Offers device registered to the same account as the qualifying purchase.

So you are wrong then I guess?
