Which department would you use? I've tried payments and promotions and now problem with checkout.
I know someone who got it in the 2nd attempt. I guess its a chance thing. Keep trying!
The best way to get the job done is chat with a rep online and tell them that you need to apply the code. Worked for me...

the reps online aren't separated into departments, they're just randomly assigned to Amazon customers
Didn't realize that MBA 13"inch is such a hot item, was waiting for MBA 13 inch/128gb to come in stock, it never did, so ordered 13 inch/256gb one, its backordered, at least this one you can add it to the cart.
Chatted with 3 CSRs before I got the 20% discount. One kindle rep gave me $20 off instead of 20%, so I kept trying, 3rd time charm, got the 20% via online chat finally.
Hopefully the backordered item will ship a within a month.

Dang, I had two codes from two separate Kindles, luckily I already ordered my 13 inch Air, but I was going to get a MacBook for either my mom or girlfriend, oh well.
At least it gives me an excuse to get my mom and iPad instead.

Well the payment isn't taken out until they ship... so it could buy you a bit of time. i read that they send you an email about 2 days before they ship it off so you can have that money in your account.
Looks like I've finally got a rep to help me! Her/His name is 'Bhuvnesh' and they come from the 'Other questions about placing an order' department.

Okay, first let me say that at least 25 separate people online have done this, and succeeded. I have now tried three times with three different departments, and am not having any luck.
I own a kindle for myself and bought a second Kindle with Special offers *exclusively* to use the 20% off coupon for a MacBook Air. This was allowed until yesterday, 2 days after I bought my kindle and generated the code.
I was very disappointed at this until I learned that chat reps can apply the code to a laptop that used to qualify, but now for whatever reason, does not.
Could you please help me?

Same here! (plus 1 day shipping). Had to go through about 4 reps before getting one to do it for me. My code is still valid too.
My 13/256 was set to deliver August 30 - September 15. I just got an email that it will be here Monday the 15th. I ordered mine on August 5th in the afternoon.
