data speeds are useless

At this point in cellular data's life, comparing data speeds is like splitting hair. Does AT&T have better data speed? Yes, they do. But it doesn't matter. I live in an area where coverage of Verizon and AT&T are the same. My sister has an AT&T iPhone 4 and I have the Verizon one. We did speedtest.net on both phones: AT&T got 2.1gb down and Verizon got .5mb down. Pretty big difference, however that equated to a 4 second difference when loading the macrumors.com site on Safari. 4 SECONDS!!!! If you are so impatient that you can't wait 4 seconds then shut the **** up. Its a matter of seconds people, GET OVER IT.

Your statement makes no sense. The facts are that AT&T has a faster and better 3G network. You can also take advantage of the iPhone 4's feature to do simultaneous voice/data while Verizon's handicapped network can't do it, and AT&T isn't capping speeds for anybody.

Verizon was all just a big over exaggerated hype. And for what? Slower 3G speeds? Capped speeds? Losing the ability to do simultaneous voice/data?

Face it buddy.

The hype is that I can receive a call in my apartment. Something my girlfriend with an AT&T iphone can't do. I'd rather have low speed than no speed.

4 seconds is actually a lot considering MacRumors is relatively graphicless. Now compare again but with a youtube video. You are gonna regret going to Verizon like I did.

Ahhh I see you have completely ignored the fact the "hype" from most people was the voice stability, and you keep trying to spit your 3 terms which nobody disputed.

Nobody said Verizon was faster, had dual voice/data support, or didn't cap speeds. The hype was that it was now available on a network with a larger footprint (FACT!) and has a more reliable voice network (FACT!) as a whole*.

* obviously area dependent as both have poor and strong areas in general.

Fanboy line is to the left. It's the one that nobody pays attention to because it's obvious they are standing on their soap box and want to justify their decision to everyone instead of letting people make their own, and admitting that both networks have positives and negatives to users who need their phone for specific uses.

LMAO!!!!

Solution to all your problems? Didn't you do some research before jumping over to Verizon? Your problems are just beginning with Verizon. No simultaneous voice/data, incredibly slow 3G network speeds, and they are capping speeds.

Verizon is the worst thing that has happened to Apple's flagship phone.

This should be a different matter once they roll out LTE.

Have fun OP!

Dude, seriously, what it your problem? Why defend a carrier? Do you work for them or something? You understand that we are talking about a phone here that is *generally* used to make calls as a primary task...

How about this, come out to Arizona with your AT&T pride and joy and lets see what your opinion is.

Seriously, if you are so serious about how solid your golden network is, please come out here and put your money where your mouth is.

Like someone said- it was just a matter of 4 seconds, I could deal with that. but if its as slow as you describe- imagine how it will get once everyone jump ship?

can you please do a video showing your vIphone loading a youtube page? I cancelled my att account early to go verizon (currently on Boost Mobile, but will go back in a heart beat).

Ok, so using Youtube will take 10 seconds...Oh No! damn if I had AT&T i could save that 10 seconds and do something else with it like....Oh wait 10 seconds is a lot of time anyways...I'll just be patient and wait for it to load.

If anyone can't be patient enough to wait even 15 seconds for something, then they seriously need reevaluate their lives.

Mine is fast.

Another Arizona native. You probably didn't go ATT for the same reason I did. Too many dead spots for ATT voice dropping calls. Loved the iPhone for years, but I use my phone far more with voice when I'm out and about than data (voice/text are my main uses when I'm not in an area where I can veg out). I couldn't justify the dropped calls since I have a family, etc, and need to be available any time w/o any issues.

My friend, who is a Director at a larger IT firm in Manhattan, has similar issues as well with voice on his ATT iPhone but he says the data around him is insane which is why he didn't drop his phone (he uses data as much as voice for work so he uses his ATT iPhone for data, and his Verizon regular phone for voice). So for him data is just as important since he needs to be able to communicate with his team, and customers, via email at any point and send/receive files.

No offense, but iphone3gs16gb also posted facts too. I don't really care about which network is better for anyone else other than myself. Good for those who have something that works out for them.

ImO, I think Verizon is going to have this problem fixed soon.

Like i said before, I have the Verizon iPhone. Just did a speedtest.net....got .4mb this time. Loaded the audi commercial from the superbowl on youtube....literally took 3 seconds to load and start playing!

This proved the point earlier in the thread about fanboys needing to bash another's network. AT&T has faster speeds, in some places. In general, yes I agree with you. However, how is it a fact that their network is better? In no way is that a fact, that's an opinion.

and that 4 secs times how many times you come here adds up.

ex macrumors 100 times a month.=400 secs

big web site you go to 20 times (and the bigger the bigger the difference) so like 20 sec difference for a big site right? another 400 secs. Plus waiting another 20 secs every time is annoying. Why have a smartphone/3g if it is slow? I bet good att edge is that fast.

I'll agree with you there. I just think it's important to acknowledge that both carriers have very positive points, users may have different needs which one carrier will have a better product for them, and that not all area's are created equal for either company. You can't make fun of someone because the 3 things that they don't offer are super important to you when there's big reasons some of their things are superior. Users need phones for different things, and/or spend their time in different environments. I'm almost always in a WiFi area between home/work/friends so I only use true data when driving and obviously Pandora can stream in "high quality" just fine on EVDO so I couldn't care less about overall speeds.

Back on topic. With the "iPhone Explosion" on Verizon I'm sure you'll see buildout in a lot of area's that have average coverage now (due to per capita users around towers) since they'll be seeing more users/use on the network. They have an amazing coverage network, but Voice/Data at long distances act very different on a tower so they will get info on what area's need more coverage, and go from there.

In the long run with LTE (and VoLTE) this will be a speedbump.

and thats slow? You can scratch ur a$$ and take a sip of water then go back to your youtube vid in 3 seconds. Whats the big deal?

I guess technology got us spoiled.

I guess technology got us spoiled.

That's all it is. I'm just as guilty of that. The other day I moved my cable modem from my office to another location (my whole house is now Wireless N so I moved it to a location where it's non-visible) and my speedtest went from 28mbps in the original location to 25mbps and change and I was all pissy for a bit til I realized that it was stupid.

You posted about a month ago that At&t offered you an Iphone 4 even though your contract was up so you placed an order. So you paid for a brand new Iphone 4 on at&t and then a month later month later you pay to break your at&t contact to start a new one with verizon? Sounds like a waste of money for the same exact phone.

Since your unhappy with verizon looks like you have to pay to break your contract with them to go back to at&t :p

edit: Also strange that you were even able to get a Verizon Iphone 4 because the pre orders were only available to pre-existing verizon customers.

4 Seconds wait? so much for a powerful phone and network but has to wait 4 seconds for every pages. multiply that to how many times a day and a year. then multiply that to X times for video streaming, like youtube and netflix. Time is money. you can buy phone but not time. nothing to do with being patient
