This pretty much wraps up WWDC 2023.

With Google and Microsoft and everyone else with half a brain going mad to get AI somehow integrated into their products, is Apple even considering that? A ChatGPT-level Siri could be incredibly useful.

If that was all there was I say I am not excited. Both the 15" MBA and mixed reality headset are questionable ventures into expanding Apple's marketplace.

There needs to be a lot more seen from various OS progressions. iOS is way over discussed compared to what needs to be seen in iPadOS, tVOS, and MacOS. WatchOS seems to be about right. There is more important hardware that needs to be launched. Updated Mac Studio, updated iMac, Mac Pro at least discuss it even if it is later this year. Services is another areas where all the OS's need updated apps to improve how users can utilize them better.

Agreed! I have a feeling Apple will possibly be discussing and releasing the Mac Studio, iMac, Mac Pro, and other Mac-related hardware in October/November Apple event. I don't think this year we will go without having an actual Mac event like last year.

It’s obtrusive, pointless, ugly, blinding at night, and blocks all sorts of content in apps and Safari. Just last night I was going through some very dark images on my phone and kept getting blinded by the huge ugly Homebar. At least they could give us the option to disable the eyesore once and for all!

macOS Snow Ventura, the last Intel version of macOS.

Hopefully Apple will make it an LTS version where they support Intel for the next three or four years.

I’m pretty excited to see journaling, health app on the ipad, and I’m really hoping for shared airtags in find my but realize that probably isn’t going to happen.

For macOS my only wish is to be able to cmd-tab between windows of the same application.

For iOS my only wish is to be able to hear game sounds while my ringer switch is off.

Bonus points if they stop using California locations for macOS names. Big cats were way cooler and there are lots of better options.

That functionality is already there for macOS, press Cmd + Tab to switch between apps and " Cmd + ~ " to switch between windows of the same application. I like it better this way actually, ~ is just above Tab anyway.

Apple should stop with the once a year major iOS release and just release features all year if they’re going to be so minimal.

Meh on the mixed reality headset.. it’d be funny as heck if it’s not coming at all and it’s gonna be some new Apple panel or curved panel or iMac lol and everyone’s thinking a headset lol..

You know what would be great in iOS 17? If we could put normal widgets on the Lock Screen. The "Lock Screen widgets" we develop are tiny and not a great deal of use. Why can't I put a rectangular LS widget on the right of the widgets? Why can I only have one rectangular widget? What possible reason is there for that?

I wish Apple would stop making major OS releases every year. My company tests every piece of software we use before they allow us to upgrade to the next version of macOS, which means we get it about a month before the new version is out. I understand the reasoning for the tests, but it's a never-ending cycle. Just release a new OS every 18 months to 2 years. You can still release updates in the meantime that include new features and fixes. We just don't need a new OS every 12 months.

In software development terms, there's no difference between iOS 16.4.1 and iOS 17.0; it's just another version of the code. It's marketing. But it's also a PITA for us developers and companies who use their software.

Sorry, didn't mean to rant, but here we are ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If there is no difference what does it matter? Youre still on a 12 month cycle, just 11 months behind. If it were an 18 month cycle you’d still be 11 months behind, you’d just have to wait even long for new features to come out.

It’s not. It’s part of Apple’s HCI guidelines and they’re enforced.
YouTube, Netflix, Plex, Audible, TikTok, Facebook, etc, etc. All play sound from the speakers when the ringer switch is silent.

Even Apple's own apps play sound when the switch is silent: Music, Voice Memos, etc.

I never have my ringer on and I literally cannot think of a single time I've thought an app should be making noise, but wasn't.

It's not enforced at all. It's up to the individual devs.

My prediction in '24:

Apple will have a new CEO.

And it couldn't come a moment too soon.

The challenge is:

Will the new CEO be a visionary, or will it be another corporate money drone...?
Not sure you understand the purpose of a CEO for a publicly traded company the size of Apple... 🤔

Or how that company's board and investors value its CEO.

I don't think Tim is ready to step down.

Hoping for Resident Evil 4, like last year when they surprised us. Also No Man's Sky and a VR show of it. Surprisingly a Mac depot for NMS was created just 12 hours ago despite the rumors of it being exclusive to Mac App Store.

None of those are games.
