Wow, a bunch of hate in this thread. If you don't want to wait in a line, thats cool, enjoy the nice weather. But who are any of you to call someone a "retard" for waiting in a line for something. If you are the type who is "too good" to wait in a line, it's ok, enjoy your no iPad. But to slander someone who wants something and is committed to getting it is just.....sad.

On another note, if you want one, avoid all Apple stores. Try wal-mart or target. I got mine at wal-mart last friday and I love it.

I just don't get the rabid hate for people just because they are willing to spend some time chatting and meeting new people in line for something.Maybe jealous because they can't afford one?
In any case "sad" is the nicest thing you can say about these haters.

LOL...funny how some people don't value the time they have left on this planet. Pissing away 13 hours sitting in a line of all things. No electronic device is worth that kind of price.

Or sitting around commenting to strangers about the activities of other strangers.
And yes,I get the double irony.

Can't Blame Them

I ordered online not thinking it would take TWO WEEKS to receive. Bummer. I should have waited in line too.

Who cares what these people do with their money? Its kind of a troll-ish post imho. Those people, how dare they! Its how I feel when I stand in line for a midnight launch of a game and some 40-something year old woman walks by and scoffs, I'd like to say. "Listen bi*tch, I go to work, and pay my taxes, pay for the schools YOUR kids go to, and I don't even have kids, so F off, and let me be."

Half of the people posting on the board wagging their fingers check this site day by day looking for a nugget of information about anything Apple related, I would say that's in the same category. At least these people had the energy to get off their chairs and go outside and participate in a social activity instead of just waiting for someone to bring it to them. I just hate articles that attack people because their passionate about something, or criticizing the way they choose to live their lives, or spend their money. I dunno, just how I feel. :/

I think the adjectives used in this thread such as
retards
idiots
pathetic
sickening
sad
morons
actually apply pretty well those those judgmental fools who are inexplicably so worked up and repulsed by how some stranger chooses to spent their own freaking time that they have to spew their repulsive vitriol all over an innocent forum thread. If they think the liners have no life, neither do they.

I ordered mine online, but I have no opinion or judgment to pass on someone who chooses to do otherwise. They will no doubt have theirs before I get mine.To each his own.

In the rest of the world people make lines to get some food and this bunch of loosers do it for a leasure device. What a shame.

I guess you wish it was you there?

I could care less who does what, still better than watching lines of people going into church now that is a waste of time. :p

If they are enjoying them selves I see nothing bad about it, I have only once done the line and it was actually fun been around some like minded people even if it was for a short time, lots of fun.

As an Apple shareholder, I am not quite happy about what is going on. Not just because of the supply constraints, but because of the totally inept communication to the purchasing public about what is going on, what the expectations are about the supply and what they are doing to increase the supply and what is the ETA for it.. This is getting ridiculous. On top that, there are analyst idiots who are spreading rumors that Apple's manufacturers are seeing reduced manufacturing load on one hand and on the other end, another analyst uses the tear down based BOM to irresponsibly predict that there will be a parts shortage due to the Japan situation crippling Apple's ability to make enough products. The first one is totally out of left field and the latter one, though plausible, is just rumor mongering at this stage. All these rumors are just that but given the lack of communication from apple about the supply of iPad 2 in general, these kinds of rumors grow leg.

Apple should improve on their communication front and they should do it this weekend.

Haters - I don't get them...

I just don't understand all the negative comments? Why would you care if someone wanted to stand in line for something? Everyone here obviously has some kind of interest in Apple products or they wouldn't be posting and I would say that 90% of the population would criticize you just for being on an Apple forum - it's all relative.

And why would people be so hung up on calling the iPad 2 launch a fail? Any company out there would LOVE to have the supply issues that Apple is experiencing! Why would you think there's a big conspiracy to restrict supplies? These are not inexpensive items, these are $500-$900 products that Apple would love to get into the hands of anyone willing to pay that much! I seriously doubt they would try to create an artificial demand - it's obvious by now that this strategy is unnecessary.

Another note about people in line - I waited in line on launch day last friday for the first time and was there about 3 hours. It actually went by really fast and the people were not Apple maniacs or retarded! They were just regular people who earned their money and wanted to spend it on this. I think the folks who probably need to get a life are the haters on thins forum.

+1 hope they fix this mess before someone gets hurt, seriously ... it is not worth creating this mess ...

This makes me less annoyed that my launch-morning online order won't ship until April 1, but only slightly. I'd still prefer AAPL divert shipments from the retail stores to my door. I've already paid.

They could fix things quickly by:

1. Stopping sales altogether at Apple Stores until the supply/demand ratio is back to normal. Only allow online sales.

2. Lower the limit to ONE PER CUSTOMER.

You could still go to the Apple Store to play with the ipads they have, but you wouldn't have to be disappointed by the empty stock and you wouldn't have to stand in line all day or act like a moron by asking the employees when the next shipment was coming in.

OR, how awesome is the US where the only thing we have to stand in line for is a leisure device. Do you think any of the people in the line went hungry to buy the iPad? Too bad the rest of the world can't learn from the lesson we taught them: respect people's rights and work hard; the result is overwhelming prosperity; then they'd all be overweight and buying iPads too.

Superficially, it is awesome, but let's not forget the fundamental domestic inequalities that promoted that overwhelming prosperity. Nor the impacts that our actions--including lusting after technologies--have on food lines around the world.

I love how bitter everyone who hasn't gotten their iPad is. That's what's really pathetic.

How about instead of ******** all over everyone else's parade you act a bit more mature and realize that you won't always get your way?

Also, the "created shortages" people are high. Apple sold a million iPads on day one. They don't need to create shortages, as they have a sell-out product that's being produced as fast as possible.

Of course, we can always just think that it's Steve Jobs personally singling YOU out, and saying "Yeah. Screw that guy. Cut supply to that particular store so that he doesn't get a new iPad. That'll learn 'im." I'm sure you conspiracy theorists are all *that* important that Apple would intentionally cause a shortage in your area to keep you from getting an iPad.

What is really a shame is that you pointing out spelling errors and rolling your eyes at people seems to somehow make you think you are superior to them. When in fact the eye rolling makes me think you're a 12 year old girl.

But then you take a gender shot?

As a result, Apple and it's partners are opening themselves up to possible lawsuits for creating unsafe conditions.

They may not be at as much risk or liability as you think. In many cases the lines are in public areas which are under the responsibility of local police etc so if something goes down it is the fault of the police, mall management, whatever for not invoking loitering and other laws/rules and allowing the lines to form and be a public nuisance etc

Sadly no - I wasn't expecting it to be this crazy. Ordered at 4:30 am pacific 64gb/AT&T/Black ended up with 5-7 day ship time. No movement yet whatsoever. It's frustrating.

Also put in 1.5 hours at Walmart only to find out they got no 3G at all. Have trolled all the Apple stores, Targets and Wal Marts around in the last week to no avail. Seems like trying to find the AT&T ones is the worst. I have noticed in the comments on some of the other posts that those don't seem to be moving until the max shipping time.

I am trying to console myself that we have it better than some :)

Indeed we do have it better. No lines, just waiting. I sold my iPad a week before the launch. I didn't anticipate how much I would miss it. A laptop seems so last century now.

I don't understand why people are so impatient and need trivial things so much. The Futurama episode "Attack of the Killer App" was understated apparently.

Paying more than list price for these things is just poor judgement, but to stand in line for hours to get a CHANCE to get one is just as bad. It's saddening, sickening, and a little embarrassing about the American consumer all at the same time.

So when is it acceptable? I waited in line for two hours to ride a roller coaster one time. Four hours to see then-candidate Obama speak (I didn't get in). 45 minutes to ask Arne Duncan a question (he left when I was next in line). An entire day for the Stewart/Colbert rally (got some cool pictures, but never was close enough to see either personality). Five hours for the iphone4 on launch day.
There are other instances when I've waited for something that was not essential, but those come to mind now. You might say the iphone4 "experience" was the least valid, but I certainly got more actual, long-term reward and enjoyment from that wait that any of the others.

I'd probably reconsider the roller coaster.

The lines might not be ideal but the people here that think they are artificial are crazy. No company wants to be in a position where they can't meet demand. I'd be very interested to know how many iPad 2s where produced for this launch because I think people will be surprised at how many Apple moved in a weeks time.

I say this because even locally the line at the Apple store was huge, probably 400 to 500 at one time. So you have to ask yourself how does an organization prepare for such a crush? Would the average Apple store even have room to store a thousand units of the iPad. Plus you need to consider that the store needs to be able to support other customers at the same time. As others have indicated the problem isn't with Apple but rather with the people standing in line. It really is pretty stupid.

Well, Apple did stop that last year by taking credit card only sales. But, people without credit complained about that. Remember the news stories about people who were low income being denied iPads.

Which was a bit lame because banks aren't going to refuse to open an account for someone with low income. Hell these days a lot of welfare programs don't write checks, they do direct deposit.

So you take that money, get an account with a debit card and you are awesome.

Total mess

This roll-out is a total disaster; the logistics are all messed up. I work as a manager at the BestBuy in Fremont, Ca. We just received a shipment of over 1000 of the things, no notice, nowhere to put them, no organization. The truck just pulled up direct from the the port, I guess. The stock area is npw a Mac fanboys dream. The two Mac stores in Palo Alto (nearby) won't get anything until next week. (All of the stores talk ... don't believe otherwise. This whole thing is supposed to be coordinated.) We're supposed lie to the people in line until the store opens at 10. The Mac store guys have to tell the people in their lines there "might" be stock when they know there isn't any. I guess they're trying to discourage the resellers. I'm not sure. Tomorrow will be awful.
