No, the "best" hope is for a Core i7 mini-tower to fill the

h.u.g.e..g.a.p.i.n.g..h.o.l.e

in the lineup between the "toy" mini and the "maxi-tower" Mac Pro.

Although Apple *should*, you won't see a quad-core Imac, nor an Imac with BD. Apple will go for "more style, less substance" -- Jobs is back.

That's more of a fantasy then the hope I was speaking of, but yes.:)

I registered just to post this and I'm posting from my iPhone because I'm holding out on buying a new desktop.
Here in toronto we have a free weekly paper called "now magazine". Carbon Computing which is probably torontos best known independent apple reseller prints a half page ad on the third page each week (issues are on the street late wed night).
This weeks special is if you PRE-ORDER a new iMac and purchase AppleCare you get a all in one printer for 299.99. There is a picture of the apple care box, the printer and a grey outline of a iMac with a big question mark inside. I can't see how this wouldn't be alluding to something coming, as I don't know why you would pre-order a current iMac and why they wouldn't use a image of it.

Anybody who's on an actual computer can probably google carbon computing as I'm pretty sure they put an image of the ad on the website under 'specials'. It's worth some lookin into.
Cheers

This is what you're talking about...

Not sure if it's another "sign" or not, but I've just got back from our local shop and although they are out of apples, they say they may have some conference pears in next week!

Would anyone like to enlighten a 'newbie' as to the meaning of SKU?

It's an inventory control number for the various Apple products the stores order from Apple. No SKU means the stores can't order the low end Mac Mini. New Mac SKU's means the products are real and the stores can order them, except they don't have pricing or descriptions yet.

OK. TVM.

Announcement day today?

I am a mac user at home but have to support a Novell/Windows XP environment at work.

What I don't totally agree with is this statement that has been made recently

Schiller reasons that those running Windows XP machines may view the upgrade to Windows 7 as too complicated and daunting, giving customers a reason to ditch PC for Mac instead.

OK.. so someone ditch's their PC and buys a mac. They might have to then go and buy the Mac version on any software they want to run such as Office, copy data, email etc and then learn how to use a new OS which to be honest is more complicated and daunting that upgrading to Win7

Joe public stays with windows because if familiar with what they have been using all this time..

have to work with both to...still hoping that they make the change to mac environment :D

The inumerous times that the pc starts to speed up the fan and the pc crashes all the apps, it's just to god damn frustating

Went to my local Comet (large UK retailer similar to Bestbuy) today. Bought the new Samsung 55" LED tv.

Got chatting to the manager about their Mac range and why didn't they offer student discount. Anyway asked him about any new versions coming soon. He told me that the stock systems were showing some new SKU numbers for Macs but no specification or pricing details yet. He told me to check back next week as he believed that they would be released by then and he would have more details.

Whether true or not it was quite interesting. More fuel on the fire. :):)
Yes it is. Maybe we are starting to enter phase 3 of the rumors? How many new SKU numbers are there?

Aside from Office, I'm not sure how much software transferring people would really do (at least the typical Mac consumer).

Either way its just a hassle. I don't really want to wipe my HDD to upgrade to 7 even though that's a very easy task and have done it twice this week (by accident :()

But I already have a mac too...the marketing still stands, there will be people looking to buy new computers and who knows what Apple will offer up to entice them away from Windows 7 machines.

Did nobody find those adds I posted interesting? (down a little bit on this page) I mean sure its not hard evidence but it does say NEW iMac with a blank picture and because all the iMacs right now look alike there would be no reason not to put the current picture up. No the add isn't fake either, its online and in print.

Totally disagree,You are maybe a geek or someone who knows its stuff but most people are not, they do NOT know how to reinstall Winbloze, they don't know S**t.
But,if one of them picks up a mac and buys software with it they will get help at the store.
If not,its much easier to install on a Mac than a PeeCee.
Then, transferring all their files is as easy as it can be,They could do that at the store but its not difficult to do it yourself.
By the way, starting clean is a good thing to do,You would only need your Music and pictures and the like.

Nice blatant fanboyism. Windows is not as bad as you think it is, and you're contradicting yourself. If backing up your data and transferring to a Mac is so easy, then I don't see how it would be hard for that person to wipe their HDD and put a CD into their computer.

The OS practically installs itself, it doesn't take a genius to set it up, and I don't think people aren't capable of doing it I just think its too much of a hassle for them. The real point is this, they are trying to target those who were waiting to buy a new computer until Windows 7 came out. They aren't trying to get people from not upgrading, they just want new customers, which is always possible, though I think Windows 7 actually hurts their chances.

guess not today, store is still up

I think he was simply referring to invites...I highly doubt they'll release products on a Friday (or invites for that matter but its a better chance).

finally at work where i can reply without exhausting tired too big fingers.

those are the ad's. thats correct.
i dont see why if it wasnt a new mac, they would put a blank imac beside the printer. its not like theres any difference in appearance in the current imac line (save for size, but the computer is obv not to scale next to the printer anyway)..

i might call in a bit and see what's up. then again, by that time, we might have news of some sort.

My feeling is that significant updates are not going to happen in the next week or so. If Apple does so concurrent with the Windows7 release, it's going to look like a kid yelling "hey guys, me too!!" when another kid is getting all the attention. Apple's window (no pun intended) to release great updates without looking like they were afraid of Windows7 was probably a couple weeks ago.

But, hey, I really hope I'm wrong, because I want a new iMac or MacBook Pro.

.

I am not that bad,I used windoze a lot but ever since I took the pill I am just annoyed by windoze.
I travelled around the world on a bike(Push) for a couple of years and used litterary thousands of internet cafes and there's always something wrong with them.
You'll hate it as much as I do when you lose your email which you just wrote over and over again.
And even here,if I get back I always get asked by windows users(friends family) to fix their windoze installation!!
And then all of the thousands of rubbish software programs on them, most of it is just garbage.
And,its not as straithforward as you say,if you install windoze you have to sit next to it since it won't finish without your interaction, apple will finish!
Its for 90% of the people not so easy as you say it is,most people are not technical, heck, most of them don't even know how to use a computer decent.
And,to get back on what you say-fanboy-Yes,I like apple but by no means all of it,iphone-too expensive and too restricted-hardware,choice yes but there should be more choice-selling outdated hardware for a premium-and so on.

You call it Windoze...that's why I said it.

Sorry you have so many issues with it. Most of that isn't the OS's fault, it's the fault of the user.

Really installing a OS, whether you have to sit there or not is not a very technical process. I mean with XP it asks for your name, a password, and if you want to set-up a workgroup (which it explains you can just skip). I've done it TWICE this week and it takes 30 minutes (from drive wipe to finished installation). It's not very technical. But yest there are people who can't even do that, though I question if they actually care about a Windows 7 release.

@babygiraffe

I agree with you. There really is no reason to put a silhouette of an iMac (with a question mark) when you have current pictures unless they are expecting new designs or machines that aren't the same as what they have now.
