What are the odds:
With the B&N E-book device coming next week, Apple decided to wait out so they could announce (but not ship) the "iTablet", kind of like the early announcement for the iPhone (what was it, a 4-5 month lag)?

Event: updated iMacs, minis, macbook, one more thing: iTablet coming in 2010

I like that idea! I think it's a big possibility that Apple give us a sneak peak hype it up and when they release it in 2010 watch all the $$ roll in!

Thanks to this, hopefully I don't have to be pessimistic over the possible CPUs in the new iMacs anymore.

I agree. It is highly suspect that Apple Insider has effectively re published earlier rumors. I would suspect they now have confirmation of the new iMacs but can't cite their inside source so they are simply putting this out there to be able to be 1st to the news wire.

Another e-reader isn't something to have Apple concerned over. The tablet seems to still be a project instead of a product. Also there would have to be an event for the tablet, and a big one for a product thats years in the making.

I find it interesting to report a rumor with no mention of new keyboards and mice, but either way it seems like a counter to the Windows 7 release with the new ad campaign and macs.

Financials

Now that the financials are being reported on Monday, might it seem right that "the event" come on Tuesday the 20th, as wished for by many in this thread?

Hambone,
I wasn't suggesting a release of the tablet as the "one more thing" simply a acknowledgement of it's existance. A tease to generate more hype.

I'm helping a friend move house today, so thankfully I won't waste another day essentially just hitting refresh. As for tomorrow, I don't know.. no self control over here..

Maybe I'll just turn my computer off altogether..

Don't turn off your computer, you will be missing some of the great musing that are put on here. :D

Here's an idea.........

OK, so this is what waiting will do to a mind........get someone on the SF area to phone the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and see if they have any availability next week as you'd like to book the facility for an all day event of some sort on short notice.......If you look on their calendar, it's blank for Sept 9th (was that the day of the iPod update?) It's also blank for the 19th, 20th, and 21st. Try to ask for an 8 hour time slot and see what they say.

My god, I used to be a productive member of society and now look what I've become.

I like it! Now all we need to do is find someone with out a life and who lives in the SF area. Although I think they have the smaller events in the Cupertino auditorium. I think that's where they unveiled the first Aluminum iMac's.

Okay - let's expand the net......Have someone phone every facility in the greater SF area with a seating capacity of over 100. Email me the results and I'll create pie charts based on scheduling gaps and past history with Apple. THEN, I'll cross reference those numbers based on all the speculated dates so far. THEN I will jump off a bridge, because I'm an idiot.

Seriously. I have a problem.

I'm sorry, really, but i'm amazed at your impatience and the things that you might do just to be sure that something from Apple is coming out. Hey! i'm with you guys, in here i walk in, in 2/3 stores just to look at the iMacs and Apple products in general...god damn it's like they hypnotise you, i just love the curves, the feeling, everything.

I BELIEVE! that this time next week, we all get some ear to ear smiles. I just do believe! have some faith! :D

Bored now...

I took my 13.3 MBP back about 3 weeks ago now, it was a great machine, I miss it. My HP6910p with Win 7 is no replacement and I want/need the new Mac for web development and also to keep all my own business stuff in one secure place away from children. Thinking I may cave in and get another 13.3 but get the 2.53 with 4GB RAM and stick a gen2 Intel X25-M in it. That should be fast enough I reckon, but just waiting right now to see if there's a price drop, speed bump, anything else really, and the buying guide says 71 days to the next update. Not looking good to hackintosh the 6910p, wireless doesn't appear to be compatible, and I need that.

OldCorpse, maybe you're wrong by the way, it's looking good for core i7 for the iMac, hopefully you'll die a graceful death at that point and Apple will drop the price of the 2.53 to that of the existing 2.26.

Went to my local Comet (large UK retailer similar to Bestbuy) today. Bought the new Samsung 55" LED tv.

Got chatting to the manager about their Mac range and why didn't they offer student discount. Anyway asked him about any new versions coming soon. He told me that the stock systems were showing some new SKU numbers for Macs but no specification or pricing details yet. He told me to check back next week as he believed that they would be released by then and he would have more details.

Whether true or not it was quite interesting. More fuel on the fire. :):)

I think tomorrow is the day even that it's Friday it will b the day new sku#s and the new info we got today I'm sure tomorrow is the day new macs Friday new adds Tuesday My 2 cents

Wow! That is a significant confirmation! We already know the SKU for the low end Mac Mini has been discontinued, now that the stores have new SKU's, they can order inventory. That is a very good confirmation that a real update is coming very soon.

Maybe I won't end up in a looney bin after all! :p

We know it exists and has for awhile now. There would be no benefit for them to simply say "hey we're working on a tablet." Unless they showed something about the product that we don't know...or simply confirm the specs we do know. Neither of which will happen.

best hope is for an iMac update with i7.

No, the "best" hope is for a Core i7 mini-tower to fill the

h.u.g.e..g.a.p.i.n.g..h.o.l.e

in the lineup between the "toy" mini and the "maxi-tower" Mac Pro.

Although Apple *should*, you won't see a quad-core Imac, nor an Imac with BD. Apple will go for "more style, less substance" -- Jobs is back.

Not sure if it's another "sign" or not, but I've just got back from the local shopping mall where the JB HiFi branch which usually has two or three demo iMacs on display now only has one and a big empty space. The MagnumMac (aka AppleStore NZ) branch upstairs still has their full set of four iMacs on display though.

Not sure if this means anything. I just got back from the grocery store and the guy there said they have run out of apples. He also said that there will be new ones coming in tomorrow.

If true, this really would be the strongest nugget yet. The question still would remain what are those SKU's? They could be almost anything, from minor to major.

I tell you what, if they could get a discreet GFX card in a mini, it would be pretty tempting. Slip a real SSD in there, like a Vertex or an Intel...

I registered just to post this and I'm posting from my iPhone because I'm holding out on buying a new desktop.
Here in toronto we have a free weekly paper called "now magazine". Carbon Computing which is probably torontos best known independent apple reseller prints a half page ad on the third page each week (issues are on the street late wed night).
This weeks special is if you PRE-ORDER a new iMac and purchase AppleCare you get a all in one printer for 299.99. There is a picture of the apple care box, the printer and a grey outline of a iMac with a big question mark inside. I can't see how this wouldn't be alluding to something coming, as I don't know why you would pre-order a current iMac and why they wouldn't use a image of it.

Anybody who's on an actual computer can probably google carbon computing as I'm pretty sure they put an image of the ad on the website under 'specials'. It's worth some lookin into.
Cheers
