When there is a product update, how long is the Apple Store usually "down" for?

No clue. Usually when it's maintenance it's at night and it's only for 5-10 minutes it seems.

Edit: I went to the MAC tab on apple.com and attempted to purchase a iMac and it sent me to the "we'll be back soon" page!

happened with the MBP too.

So if I understand it right first the store gets a update and then the mac section just comes up updated right away or can this take days again

If it's scheduled maintenance, maybe. But nobody schedules maintenance during business hours. Perhaps they've had a critical failure somewhere.

going on 35 minutes now..Either new updates or something is REALLY wrong with the store.

agreed. But at least we can start a new thread, and complain about something that has been released.

It might be those new keyboards and mice.

Noonish PDT sounds about normal for Apple doing a page update on a Friday. Otherwise it's in the dawn hours.

Don't forget, a lot of other places in the world are now outside business hours, and all the sites are updated at the same time.

However I agree that as Apple are based in California, it will probably be done on Pacific Time.

New Keyboard

New TV software with walk through video

New iMac components, minus the refresh design (i hope its a new design)
